Tower Oaks Lodge
Good food, good value. One small gripe, however: the wine glasses are an embarrassment for a nice restaurant - small and thick, hardly conducive to enjoying a nice bottle. Service is always cheerful. Our go to restaurant for out of town friends with its rustic, non pretentious ambiance (Appalachian fishing lodge theme).
Always wonderful especially during lobster months. Nice everyday menu with local ingredients. They also make a great drink.
8 people with round table was ideal for conversation
Exceptional attentive cheerful service—she made the experience perfect
This is the go-to place for my friends and I to meet and have lunch because it had great food and service -- and it isn't loud. You can hear a conversation and not have to shout. We've been meeting there about every 4 or 5 weeks for the last couple of years. We hope they can continue to maintain the quality of food and service -- and the low noise level. We plan to get together for years to come.
Your portions are on the small side and just did not satisfy my appetite and very very expensive to boot! We take out of town visiting guests to your place, but honestly, the only reason that we dine there is the service and the atmosphere are above average. We would dine there more often if the portions were on par with restaurants like Outbacks. Oh, neither my Wife and I have big appetites. I am under 150LBS and she is under 120LBS so we are not "Beefers" and if we find portions to be on the small side believe me they are!
Service was spot on as usual. Short delay getting seated but it was really busy so it was not a problem. Their bread was fresh and really good and the lobster meals were really good. My chicken (half chicken) was disappointing - no flavor and the white meat was dry and parts were cooked to the point of being hard as a bone. We have been here before and will not hesitate to return but I will pass on the chicken.
Good food and service. Is pricier, but worth it.
We had a great time at Clydes - Tower Oaks. We were celebrating birthdays and a wedding anniversary. We were so happy when our server brought us a delicious dessert. The food was delicious and we love the half price raw bar on Sundays.
Consistent in terms of food and service. Very friendly, varied menu, tasty options. We’re always happy at Tower Oaks!
Perhaps wait staff a bit stretched as we were ignored for a while after seved water. Otherwise dependable enjoyment all around.
Sadly we were in the back bar in a both. The both beside us that they were in the bar and carried on so. It was hard to talk as they were all sanding around our table talking loud. Also we ordered Harpswell Oysters and I am 100% sure we were served oysters from warmer southern waters, no way they were from Maine.
Always delivers on a good meal and atmosphere. The lobster special was fantastic as were the other items like crab cakes. Service is great for a large place. Bar is nice if you don’t want to wait.
Came for the lobster and was not disappointed. Food and service met expectations. Will be back.
The food and atmosphere and thoughtful decorations and layout are consistently good at a very reasonable price. We have come here for years when we want everyone to be satisfied with their varied food desires.
We have been here several times & we have generally pleased with the food & service. For us, it's a great neighborhood restaurant.
The waiter Eugene did a fantastic job. Food was good as always. I love the room. Such nice people at the restaurant. The bloody Mary’s are a little too spicy for most people. But the food itself is good
Everything good except the coffee was tepid. Second replacement cup undrinkable.
We had a very good time. The food was as expected. The drinks were good and the server polite
We were seated quickly. Waiter was attentive but not overly so. Enjoyed their lobster specials. Definiely a good experience.
Great dinner salmon and steak!! Waited for my guest at bar and enjoyed shrimp cocktails for starter. Drinks were perfect! Service is outstanding!
We dine here often. Our experience is usually outstanding. The last 2 times, we have had some wait staff other than our waiter, actually perform less than outstanding. In fact, one waiter was actually unpleasant to deal with. This is totally out of the norm & unexpected, & hopefully was just a fluke. Management needs to be on their toes in regard to this & constantly monitor team performance. There are too many other local options to allow this at all, or people will go elsewhere. One thing that needs correction is the type of salt shaker that is used. We have consistently been unable to get salt to come out of the salt shaker & our waiter has been unable to correct the problem.
Staff was very helpful with answering questions. They gave courteous service. Weill be back.
The service and food was excellent. The food was great and we enjoyed the ambiance.
It's always good there and the Lobster was outstanding.
The service this last time was better than ever.
Good for their monthly specials (Lobster, 18.99) but the food off of the menu is just fair
enjoyed our dining experience again --- lobster was terrific!
I enjoy the ambience and brunch at Tower Oaks. Their bennies are delicious especially the Chesapeake which are crab cakes. Their pumpkin donuts are also delicious. You also can’t beat the $4 mimosas. I will return.
My friends thoroughly enjoyed the dinner.
Service was rushed even though it was a weeknight & after the main dinner hours.
Food runner quickly (dumped?) put the main dishes on the table, when we were only halfway done w/appetizers.
Regular waiter & manager were gracious.
Service is attentive. Food is consistently very good.
We eat here often, but tonight everything was off. The waiter forgot to put our order in, then after 40 minutes we called for the manager. He hustled our dinner out, but neglected to check our requests.
I was given the wrong info about a dessert, so I ordered it and there was much on it I was allergic to..but no one checked back.
The manager never came back to see if all was well.
I have eaten at this restaurant on multiple occasions. Most of the time the employees stationed at the hostess stand are very professional. However at other times, they can be curt and rude.
Most of the time the kitchen is willing to make simple requests. On this visit our server was friendly and professional. Other times they simply do the bare minimum in a robotic manner.
Most of the time the sous chefs do a good job.
For dessert, I love the Vanilla Creme Brûlée. I have enjoyed it at multiple restaurants, including Clyde’s.
I have made this dessert in my home on multiple occasions.
I know that Creme Brûlée means burnt creme in French but I don’t enjoy a blackened top. One should be able to break the golden brown sugar topping and enjoy it with the custard. I order this dessert. I love this dessert so much that I purchased a set which included a blow torch.
Unfortunately on my last visit, they couldn’t get the Brûlée right. I requested that the top be mahogany colored but what I received was a pale and hanemic topping with no hardened sugar.
My server was amazing and apologetic. She took the custard back to the kitchen. One of the managers returned the dessert ( which still didn’t have the proper topping).
He informed me that they only brûlée one way g. This restaurant can cook a steak to order but they can’t use a blowtorch?
The truth of the matter is that either 1) No one knows how to use a blowtorch properly or 2) They simply don’t care.
When they get it right, it’s a good restaurant. When they don’t, it’s just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
Lunch with friends
We've always enjoyed Tower Oaks Lodge, but I might never go back. Not sure if our waitress was just having a bad day or didn't like us. It was my daughter's 12th birthday. She and her 3 friends sat in the booth behind us. I was in a booth with 2 other moms. My daughter has food allergies so ordering is always more complicated but I've never run into any problems. Perhaps she was annoyed she had to find out about the roll on my daughter's burger? It got worse from there. When she came over I could tell she was annoyed, but I couldn't figure out why. Service to our table slowed to an almost stop and then all the sudden they brought my daughter a dessert with a candle lit. Cute, but my table was still finishing lunch. No one else at her table has a dessert yet. It was strange as she ate it by herself. The rest of us ordered dessert and my daughter watched us eat it as we had watched her previously. Then, our waitress disappeared helping other tables for about 10 minutes while I was hoping for a check. I could tell she was busy but now I really wanted the check. The food was fine and I really enjoyed the dessert, but I am less than happy with how my daughter's birthday lunch turned out. I even have to say I was a little embarrassed as well. I had invited her new friends from school (new school) as well as their moms. It was the first time I was getting to know them and I know they picked up on the bad service as well.
We have been regulars since they opened. It’s extremely rare to have a bad experience. This time was no exception; however, our server was lousy. Fortunately, once our food was in, the food runners take over. It just took forever for refills and to place our order. Again, this is rare in my experience. We came for brunch and the meals were great as always. Highly recommend splurging and getting the Chesapeake Benedict.
Crystal did a wonderful job! Everything was excellent!
...All aspects were excellent.
Service has slipped at the Tower Oaks lodge, but food still is great.
We made a reservation for my mom's birthday in the middle of the week. Our table was ready when we arrived and we appreciated that our server accommodated our requests for our kids to split a meal. Our food arrived correctly and tasted great.
But that's about all that went well.
We weren't given any bread until 40 minutes after we were seated, and when most people already had entrees. Water pitchers were not replaced. Our waitress was gone for longer periods of time. My mom was not recognized for her birthday. Our waitress failed on splitting the check - she gave us our split check, I gave her my credit card, and she came back with my credit card receipt, but an additional $30 over my split check was already charged to my card (should have been $55, but was $85)!
Ten minutes later everything was sorted out, and we left to put our kids to bed. But the rest of our party had to suffer an additional 45 minutes with this server who kept doing drive byes then disappearing for long periods of the time. We wanted to get things moving with orders and checks and instead we were waiting on our waitress!
The manager came by to make excuses and to offer a free appetizer "on a future visit" ... as if we'd want to come back and experience this again...
Really unfortunate that we had an incompetent waitress and an a manager who can't make things right.
I’ve been coming here for years. Food is always good and this time our waitress was great!
