Tower Oaks Lodge
My spouse and our friend’s meals were very good...cheeseburger and grilled chicken sandwich. However my grilled chicken salad was terrible. I was expecting warm chicken and warm roasted vegetables on a salad. What I had was cold meat and cold roasted vegetables on a dried out bed of shredded Brussel sprouts. Very disappointing. I have dined at this restaurant many times before and totally enjoyed the meals we ordered. I would have had a comparable salad at the Silver Diner and been impressed but not here. Also, the cornbread was very good but also cold as in “I just took it out of the refrigerator cold.”
I've eaten at many of the Clyde's locations since the mid-70s. You can bank on good food and good service. Tower Oaks Lodge is one of the locations I frequent as it is central for my friends and I to meet there for lunch. I never hesitate to recommend it. This last visit wasn't quite the best but it was still very good. I don't know if there was a staff shortage or the lunch bookings went unexpectedly through the roof but service was a bit slower and less attentive then usual.
The noise level seems to be raising with each visit. If it isn't an anomaly, then we will be searching for a new lunch meeting place.
I love this place for a business lunch. One of the few restaurants around where you can still hear your dining companions (thanks to the carpet and draperies).
This was our first time at Tower Oaks for dinner and our second time the first being brunch for Mother's Day. I will tell you that's the food is worth the price! We've gone too many high end restaurants and Tower Oaks delivers an amazing meal for a reasonable price. My wife and I both had drinks, we had 2 appetizers of the bacon wrapped dates, yes they are that good, both of us had steaks that came with one side each. And then both of us had wonderful desserts. I can only complain a little about the size of my wife's hanger steak being on the small size her 8 ounce was much smaller than half of my 14 oz New York strip. The other thing was both steaks were overcooked by 1 level. My wife ordered medium rare and medium I ordered medium and got medium well. All that being said the case of the steaks were very good the sauce that came with them was very tasty and the meal was a very large success. As for Ambience it is a very eclectic restaurant with a hunting lodge ambiance so you have rabbit, deer, bears, wooden Indians Etc. My wife and I went on a Monday night and it was very nice to be able to just talk across the table and not scream I would say the level of the volume in the restaurant was low yet the restaurant was mostly filled. Overall I would give Tower Oaks a four-and-a-half star rating. And suggest that if you are looking for a nice steak place try here.
As always, Tower Oaks rates a high mark. food, service, special birthday treat for guest. Just keep up the good work and you'll be around a long, long time. Thanks
Generally Tower Oaks was fine and consistent with other Clyde's properties. Our server was somewhat uninspired and seemed to just be there to impatiently take our orders, let empty dishes and glassware build up and dump the check on the table. The room wasn't overly full and busy.
Good quality foods. Excellent services.
The mix up of using my credit card to pay for another bill and getting it straitened out took the edge off the outing. Service attention was lacking which slowed getting the correction process started.
This has not been the type of service we are accustomed.
Didn’t realize they would have a limited menu on Sunday. It was a brunch menu. They were willing to make me something off the dinner menu. Very accommodating. I missed the variety they usually have. Not into brunches at 1:30 in the afternoon.
Spent 2 hours for a Sunday birthday brunch. Good food, genial waiter, and I could hear my family members. The passion fruit cheesecake dessert for the birthday participant was just superb....finest dessert we've all had for a long time.
Unfortunately the Hollandaise sauce with Old Bay was not very good and the side order of sausage patties was returned as they appeared to have freezer burn and were hard as rocks.
We had an excellent experience at Tower Oaks! Nice varied menu that offers great value!
I love the decor, esp the hallway with lights - that's what brings me back. We shared 2 vegetarian entrees, which were disappointing. The ravioli was blah and a bit beyond al dente. The cauliflower was tepid and hard. The toppings were good though. Cheesecake with passion fruit was amazing.
Our waitress provided extraordinary service to us.
Another wonderful experience at a Clyde’s establishment. This was our first visit to this woodland wonderland and from the moment we drove through the twinkle arches to our walk through the tunnel of lights, we enjoyed the evening. Reservations are a must at this popular establishment. We had drinks at the bar before being seated at our reservation time. Service by Anita was excellent throughout the meal. We ordered four entrees-scallops, rigatoni, trout and a pork chop and all were perfectly prepared and served hot. The entire evening was pleasurable and we will definitely make plans to return even though we live in VA near Clyde’s Willow Creek, which is also excellent.
Loved the food, service, & atmosphere. I did not love the snarky hostess. Told her my husband was in a walker & can we please be seated. No she said because our friends weren’t there yet. Told me he can sit in the very crowded lobby. No chairs available. I was very disappointed in her attitude.
The restaurant was packed on a Saturday night so despite having a reservation we had to wait 10-15 minutes before we were seated. We had a very helpful attentive waiter. The scallops were tasty but the portion of the side of roasted acorn squash was pretty small and a little undercooked. I don’t think it should be crunchy.
Birthday combined with concert nearby. After dinner the server appeared with cake, ice cream and a candle. Still can’t figure out how she knew! Great service also included a couple specially prepared meals! Thanks for a wonderful experience!
Breakfast w/Santa....should have checked. Kitchen wasn’t up to its usual standard.
I dine here all the time. It’s one of our favorites. Friday night was way off. My husband go the wrong drink, my entree was not even close to what I ordered and I even discussed at length with the waiter. I kept it so I could eat with my fellow diner but it was way over cooked and not at all acceptable. The waiter kept trying to grab away our plates and glasses before we were finished. Had to beg for bread and ketchup for the fries I didn’t order. A bad dining experience this time.
Great experience!! Enjoyed everything
Tower Oaks Lodge has been one of my favorite restaurants for many years, often for special occasions, but it has started to slip during the past year. My latest visit this week was the most disappointing yet. My reservation (for a party of 4) requested the dining room with windows. We arrived at 11:30 am for early weekday lunch. Hardly anyone was there yet, but the front desk assigned us to one of the worst tables away from the windows. All of the table windows remained empty for the next hour. I didn't ask for another table because I didn't want to make a fuss in front of my two guests.
I asked for coffee, hoping to get a big diner mug, like I got a few months ago. Instead, I was served coffee in a small glass cup. I asked if they still had diner mugs, but the server warned me they were even smaller than the glass cup. She brought me a fresh coffee in the "diner mug," and it was tiny, perhaps something one would use for espresso. Then the server was slow with coffee refills.
At the end of our meal, I asked for our check. When the server came back, she handed the check directly to one of my guests. Of course, my guest insisted on paying, but it was supposed to be my treat.
The decor is Adirondack Rustic. The menu is varied, appetizers, sandwiches, entrees, steaks, and sides. Offerings are imaginative, and from what our party ate (crabcake, cauliflower curry, and duck breast) very tasty. Full bar, some fruit juices, and soda. The dessert menu is definitely worth checking out.
We went here on a whim and were very pleased with the evening. Our waiter took great care of us and was part of the wonderful experience.
My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and were treated with extra care. The food came out quickly and was delicious. We were then treated to a celebratory dessert. Our table was cozy and the service was outstanding.
Enjoyed a Sunday brunch with family. Great ambience, food was only OK.
Been a while since I had been there. Menu is substantially reduced. Quality has dropped and service has gone downhill as well. Great location and ambiance, but food just not up to par.
nice place ... rustic/comfy. a bit pricey for what you get ...
The ambiance of this restaurant can't be beat -- seating near one of the fireplaces in December is awesome. The brunch menu offered many options. The quiche was one of the best we ever had. The Rueben was loaded with meat and was delicious. Our service was excellent -- hope to go back there soon.
Awesome ambiance, awesome service, awesome food and drink. Had my parents in and took them here to escape leftover turkey. They raved about the experience!
Food was interesting, mostly good, but the service was strange - our 18- and 21-year-old daughters were offered kids' menus; when I ordered a "scotch straight up" the server said the bartender wanted to know what type of glass I wanted it in, and when it arrived it was a scotch and water (ick!); server refilled only one person's water glass and required our help in moving things around on the table . . . etc.
Thanksgiving. It was beautiful
The turkey dinner was absolutely dreadful. The meat was super processed and potatoes undercooked. The only thing satisfactory was the dessert and we had to choose other items because the establishment had run out of standard pies.
Tower oaks can be very good - but it seems that only 1 out of three visits is actually worthy of recommending to anyone..
We were hoping for a great Thanksgiving dinner.the turkey was tough and full of gristle. The food wasn’t warm. The food was soaked in gravy. Gravy should have been served in a gravy boat on the side. A choice of either mashed potatoes or sweet potato should have been given. The apple pie should have been warmed up.
Sorry for such a bad review . Hope you do better next time.
We traditionally have our Thanksgiving dinner at Tower Oaks. A nice place for a celebration.
As always, we were treated to delicious Thanksgiving fare with prompt service and gracious hospitality. Couldn't ask for more.
We took a chance on having our Thanksgiving meal out this year. Lots of things COULD go wrong when a restaurant is serving big crowds. BUT, NONE of them did. Tower Oaks did a great job serving delicious food while providing outstanding service. It was a pleasure to relax and let their cooks and staff take over this special meal. We will look forward to going back next year, and many times in between. This is one of our favorite restaurants. Take a bow, Tower Oaks!
Very lovely Thanksgiving dinner. While two others thought the green beans were "crispy", I thought they could have been cooked just a bit more. Would have preferred stuffing without sausage.
We had a wonderful time at Tower Oaks Lodge for Thanksgiving. All of the waiters, waitresses and other employees were terrific, friendly and fast beyond words. We frequent Tower Oaks for many of our special dinners/lunches. The only disappointment this time was the Thanksgiving turkey dinner. Several years ago, the turkey was carved off the bird. The turkey this year was from a processed breast. We also would have preferred our green beans cooked a little longer. The Riesling was superb. All in all, we love Tower Oaks and will be back soon.
