Ideally, Toutant seeks to invoke the memories of its guests’ early childhood family dinners, demonstrating the heart, preparation, and comfort experienced at those gatherings. Guests are able to enjoy upscale Southern comfort fare from a menu featuring vast amounts of fresh Gulf seafood and shellfish, buttermilk fried chicken, and accurate renditions of numerous Southern favorites like jambalaya, house-smoked sausages, cast iron skillet cornbread, and authentic barbecue offerings. The beverage program features seasonal frozen daiquiris, local cider, beer and wine, as well as hand-selected bourbons, whiskeys, and moonshine.
Always delicious and a delight. A lovely place for Easter brunch.
Unexpected date night.. plans changed late. Happy to get the reservation.
Toutant has got to be one of the best restaurants I have been to as of late. The service, food, and atmosphere were all absolutely incredible! The corn dumplings were little pillows of heaven and we could not stop eating them. The flavour was umami at its best! You can't go wrong with the fried chicken or jambalaya either. They were both outstanding. My mom and I felt like we were back in Charleston, SC when we ate there. Kudos to the Chef for sharing a part of his childhood memories with us. We will never forget our fantastic meal at Toutant, and hope to go back one day soon!
It was great! Service and food was awesome!!
great atmosphere. liked what we had. will try a few different items next time
Our first time dining at Toutant but definitely not our last!!! Food was fantastic, service was terrific and accommodating.
The bourbon selection was amazing. I was able to try Pappy for the first time, which I never thought I would ever in this lifetime... A lovely birthday treat. Atmosphere - very chill and I loved the playlist in the background. However, the food did not meet my expectations. The dumplings were good and I actually enjoyed the gravy that accompanied the dish. But majority of what we had was lacking soul. One would think Hot chicken would be more fun to eat than buffalo hot wings. Collards were a huge let down... And the Jambalaya was so-so. Everyone is different and people have their own preference, but I feel like the flavors of real southern cuisine was held back. Anyway, it was an experience but one I would not like to revisit again.
Everything we ordered was to die for! The best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had!!
Overall the experience was wonderful. Went for Sunday brunch with mom and son. Food was fresh, tasty, original and filling. Service was outstanding. Only caution with reservations is that majority of table seating is up long flight of stairs which can be difficult to manage for elderly or anyone with an injury. Fortunately a bistro table by the bar was open. Staff quick to offer as an option
The food is spectacular & the staff are delightful. Have never been disappointed
We were greeted and sat as soon as we arrived and the staff was very friendly and helpful with the daily specials. We had great seats on the top floor overlooking the city and almost to the water. Our drinks and food came out very efficiently and appropriately timed. Everyone's food was delicious and we couldn't have been happier with the entire experience. We will definitely be back and recommend this to our friends.
It was a busy Saturday evening but the service was very good. A great menu that made it difficult to select just one dinner! But the food was great...had buttermilk fried half chicken and beef barbecue. And pleasantly surprised to see that Toutant was a great value. I expected it to be more expensive.
Great food and drinks. Great place to go with friends.
Our waitress was great! She was doing double duty - waitress and hostess yet she was so cool under pressure!
Amazing place to dine! Chef James and his entourage are outstanding. From the kind and efficient greeting at the door to our wonderful server whose name escapes me at the moment. You are treated like family and served like family is served. Wonderful, soulful tugging food that should be enjoyed leisurely. You are not rushed here, so take your time!
First the wonderful signature cocktails we sipped on while pondering the menu, nicely done, we had another! We enjoyed the Corn Dumplings as a shared appetizer. Think pillows of corn pasta in a pimento cheese fondue with roasted mushrooms for earthiness, wow. Onto the entrees of Creole Jambalaya with Smoked Chicken, Maw-Maw’s Gumbo with Smoked Sausage and a side order of Collard Greens. Everything was outstanding. I must say it was a tough decision to pick a entree, we wanted to try many of them!
We couldn’t finish our dinners but had them packed to take home. On to dessert! Our choice, Oogey Gooey Cake, served warm with ice cream. We also had French press coffee to complete the journey. Delicious.
We will be back...soon. Thank you Chef James & wonderful staff!
Loved it Sunday night. Great drinks, entrees and service. We’ll be back —
One of our favorite date night spots! Great drinks, food and service.
Instead of choosing the chain restaurant in the lobby of our Buffalo NY hotel, we decided to search the area around the downtown theatre district. Toutant was a short walk from our hotel and when we saw that the menu included many southern classics, we had to give it a try. The restaurant itself is situated in a revived building with lots of character. The bar is on the main floor and the upper floors are where the main restaurant seating is. Just a note, if you can't climb a flight of stairs easily, accessibility may be an issue.
The wait staff were very attentive, and we received our meals promptly. All the food we ordered was very good. I had the bbq short ribs, which were oh so tender and massive! My wife had the house speciality, southern fried chicken, which was also amazing (I had a few sample bites). My daughter ordered the jambalaya with shrimp which was perfectly seasoned and delicious. We were very happy with our meals. The selection of craft beers was outstanding as well!
Needless to say we would visit again if staying in downtown Buffalo. Well worth checking out!
Great food & atmosphere. Had a great seat on second floor to watch March Madness
Nashville hot chicken was terrific. Short ribs with ketchup/mustard glaze were also great. T-bone was just right. Gumbo could have been a tad thicker but was still tasty.
Went off brand for me with the catfish. Thought it was really good. I usually tend to get jambalaya here because it's the best, but the change of pace was good. I recommend either dish... and pretty much everything else
Really yummy comfort food
The food was amazing. Awesome service by Laura and Jordan. Absolutely LOVED it
I personally Would not recommend a friend or family member to Toutant for food, I feel as though there could be better menu options. It's ridiculous that sides are not included with entrees and they have to be purchased separately. With Buffalo's amazing restaurant culture I don't see this place being open for much longer, there are simply better choices for food in the city.
My chicken was very good and my husband loved his jambalaya. I Jus t wished maybe a potato or salad came with my meal as I still felt hungry. Also, ordered the fried deviled eggs which were a real disappointment.Texture was questionable and a bit tasteless. Other times I visited this restaurant I ordered the deviled eggs and they were prepared differently (in the fall) and were delicious. All in all, enjoyed our visit and will be back again
It was our third trip to Toutant and we brought some friends for their first visit. The food was great. The character of the building and the decorating are outstanding. very good service and a fine dining experience at a reasonable price point.
Everything was great! Fried chicken and hush puppies are my favorites!
Incredible hospitality and front of house staff. Food was fantastic as well (get the corn bread) and along the lines of what I would expect from a Louisiana inspired restaurant. Only criticism is that the large rimless white bowls the short rib was served in and the white plates the fried chicken was served on could be improved upon. Didn’t match the theme of the rest of the serviceware but if that’s the only criticism I’d say that’s a job well done! Will definitely be back again and again.
Very beautiful venue! The service was solid- very attentive to guests. The food was decent, but nothing spectacular that matched southern inspired cuisine. The biscuits were very sweet (and delicous); but the gravy was very salty. The cocktails were very distasteful and unbearable to drink.
The menu is very limited. For the price it's not worth it. I don't mind spending over a hundred dollars for dinner, but, we took most of the food home and threw every item away so that waitress wouldn't feel bad. Also, reservation was for 830 and we were sat down @915.
Toutant adds a unique flare to Buffalo cuisine, combining traditional southern cooking with an urban spin. The restaurant has a beautiful bar on the main level offering local brews and some intriguing cocktails, and two additional floors for dining. The cozy atmosphere, delicious upscale southern cuisine, and wonderful staff will have you planning your next trip back before you walk out the door. I recommend the hush puppies, fried chicken, and the BBQ of the Day.
Chose Toutant as our restaurant of choice for the evening, as it was within walking distance from our hotel and we were able to make a reservation online. Experience was top notch from start to finish. Our service was impeccable and the food was also outstanding. I appreciated the pace and felt as though we could have remained at out table for as long as we liked. Will definitely be back the next time I frequent Buffalo.
The food was excellent, service amazing, and I’ve already told several people to check it out. I loved the Nashville Hot Chicken.
Excellent service all around. Waiter bar staff food was excellent
Had a wonderful meal with wonderful friends. Toutant never disappoints.
Every dish was really good. Beautiful presentation and delicious. The cocktails were also excellent.
Great experience, food and service was excellent. Wine list is not extensive but has decent choices, hubs was disappointed by the bar choices, he is a traditionalist and not into craft cocktails.
Wife and I had dinner before a concert at Shea's. The food was good and well timed. Service was great and very attentive. Overall it was a good experience and didnt break the bank. We would eat here again.
Super friendly host right off the top! Immediately welcomed us and accommodated our earlier than expected arrival. We had a short wait while we sipped on expertly crafted cocktails. I had the mint julep to put me in the mood for Southern fare. We were ushered up to a funky, and well appointed dining room with nice lighting and cool art. Wait staff was perfectly attentive!! Including downstairs bar staff that responded quickly to settle our tab before going upstairs. We started with fried deviled eggs and starter off the day pastramied bacon (at least a cm thick, more like pork belly) delicious combo!! I had the dry hopped cider with my meal which added an unexpected herbaceous note that went perfectly with the jambalaya and fried chicken that my husband and I shared. We still went ahead with desert! We had the boozey coffee with smoked ice vanilla cream and the sourgum tart, things that we never make at home what a pleasure! Highly recommend!
Great food, great service. Hostess asked if we were going to a show, and then passed it on to the wait staff and they kept our table moving so we could make it on time. Love this place!
