Toscano Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I have been past Toscana numerous times and always wondered what it would be like to eat there. I finally made it this week, as we had a gift certificate. I was surprised. I had no idea the overall experience would be this good and the prices are not "off the charts." I would definitely go again. The wood carved doors and the lighting pieces are special and add to the ambiance. The service excellent and the server had a good sense of humor - he helped us find the perfect dishes to savor and enjoy.
Toscano is the go-to restaurant for great food and outstanding service in our Beacon Hill neighborhood. Everyone is treated like family and it shows in the number of familiar faces who return again and again for exquisite dining in a friendly atmosphere. Can't say enough about the staff. They are the best.
The atmosphere and service were excellent. I had a sidecar as a cocktail and it was delicious. I started with the veal/pork meatballs and they were absolutely terrific, among the best I have ever had. My wife had the polenta with porcini - that was good, but the polenta was softer and not as crisp as we would have liked. We shared a beet and gorgonzola salad with arugula and that was excellent. We then shared the veal Milanese. The first time I ordered this it was outstanding. This time, it was somewhat overcooked with some burning on the outer crust. Still, one of our favorite restaurants in Boston.
Perfect dining area for couples or friends, older family. Food is great, priced reasonably, excellent server (we have had Becky 2 times so far, and she is wonderful along with the team that works with her). We sat a round table for 5, and it was great to have interactive conversation while eating. A new favorite spot for us.
This was an all around positive experience. We had apps through dessert and the food was absolutely delicious. Everyone in our party of five raved about their meal. The service was impeccable, and very attentive. We were there to celebrate the birthday of one of our group, and although we didn't mention it to anyone, our very-observant server picked up on it and brought his dessert with a candle and then we learned that the dessert was being comp'd.
Toscano's is what I would describe as a classy but not stuffy restaurant. I would recommend making reservations, as we did, to avoid disappointment.
The restaurant has great ambiance. Very warm environment and is just dark enough to make it intimate. The only problem my girlfriend and I had was the service. They were very attentive but were very inconsiderate when it came to giving us enough time to enjoy our meal. Our waiter constantly kept coming up to us asking if we were all done and even cleared my plate and our bread even though my girlfriend was still eating. You will see this comment in other reviews and I would definitely take it to heart.
We have enjoyed this restaurant for many years. It does not disappoint. This was a late lunch, so the restaurant was not full which made it even more pleasant - quiet enough for a good conversation with a friend we hadn't seen for a few years. Wine pours are generous, which I appreciate and unlike some places that try to make their money on their skimpy servings.
Lovely dinner with friends before a show at The Wilbur. Evening began with a warm greeting, prompt seating and a nice view of the kitchen. Service was attentive and prompt without being overbearing or intrusive.
Appetizers and desserts were generously portioned -- ample for sharing. Refreshingly different from "Italian American" offerings. The chicken liver pate crostini brought me back to my summer in Tuscany. The osso bucco was a tad salty and the risotto not as creamy as I would like. The mixed seafood grill featured a lusciously thick tuna steak. And the sauce on the chicken involtini... well, I could have made a meal of the sauce alone! The tiramisu and ricotta cake were both the best I've ever tasted. Overall, an excellent meal.
If coming by car for a pre/post a theater show, I recommend parking in the Boston Common garage. The restaurant is a short walk from there, and then you can cut back through the Common and get to the theater in 15 min.
Stopped at Toscano before a show. Had not been for a few years and found it to be equally as good as it had been. We had the white anchovy salad and grilled squid appetizers, a small portion of porcini fettuccine and grilled misto & grilled tuna for entrees. All of these dishes were fresh, delicious, well-prepared and perfectly timed between courses. My only food comment would be to either not serve the focaccia in the bread basket or serve it warm. The waiter was excellent and gave us a really good wine recommendation that went superbly with our food.
