Toscano Harvard Square Ratings and Reviews
Lovely interior and a warm reception awaited us on a cold winter afternoon. The waitress appeared to have several tables but was attentive to our needs. Our cocktail order took a bit longer than we expected but our waitress assured us they would be right along. There was quite a variety of very different cocktails to be had as well as a good size wine list. Our friends decided to share the beet salad as an appetizer and it was put on two plates and there was plenty for both of them. I loved the fish stew which was chuck full of fresh and delicious fish. I would put it up against anyone's! We all had something different and were all satisfied. I very much enjoyed the white chocolate tort with fresh blueberries for dessert. Prices seem a bit high but being in the Harvard Sq. area accounts for that. We would all definitely go back again!
We come here often. I've never ordered the pizza and this time I did. It was excellent. My husband's sole and arugula salad were delicious, too. Service was first-rate. We always get our favorite, next-to-the-windows table—thank you :-)
We will be back in January for our daughter's 32nd birthday.
We made reservations at 730 and arrived at 715. Host stated our table was not ready and that we were to early to be seated. I was very confused as there were 6 tables available in plain view sight. Minutes after, a party of 3 walked in and were seated right away. Maybe they made reservations at 715. Any who, we decided to sit at the bar for drink while we wait for our table to be “ready”. Eventually we decided to dine at the bar. We order oysters and a prosciutto dish for appetizers. The apps were really good. For my meal I asked for a well seasoned steak and the bartender suggested the T- bone steak. I love suggestion so I decided to have that as my meal and my partner ordered a shrimp dish. The meals looked great when they arrived but unfortunately the flavor of my steak was plain and dry which was disappointing. After finishing our meals the bartender dropped off our check, because he thought we were “all set”. Well we were not, we ordered the tiramisu for dessert which was different but really good. The bartender eventually apologized for dropping the check off so soon and took the dessert off our bill. He didn’t have to do that but it was definitely appreciated. Overall I think the food was okay but the service could be better.
We had a new waiter, and I don’t want to be unkind... but a couple of things were off in a meaningful way. For starters (truly, our first interaction with him) he inquired about the content of a private conversation. We were laughing when he approached us, and he said he wanted to know what the joke was about. I’m sure that he meant well... he was trying to establish a relationship with us... but, truly... no. It was none of his business. Then he mixed up the main-course order for my guest and brought her scallops instead of shrimp. Thankfully she didn’t seem to mind, and the food was delicious. In short, I’m not sure if this waiter needs more training or is simply unsuited to the job: I leave that for the managers at Toscano to discern.
I love Toscano!! My partner and I have been going here for years--rarely, since we're young and can't often afford it--but every dinner has been so special. I've never had better bruschetta or tiramisu. The food is always insanely fresh and of the highest quality. It's a cozy, intimate, beautifully furnished restaurant. 11/10!
The first time we went to Toscano last spring was a disaster with a rude and insulting hostess but we gave it another try and were thoroughly pleased. We had the same table by the window which we enjoyed. Our waitperson was knowledgeable and made good suggestions based on the menu questions asked. Prosecco wine was perfect. Beef tenderloin filets cooked as ordered. The filet of sole was amazing. Vegetable substitutions allowed and appreciated. Desserts were truly Italian. Glad we gave it a second chance.
Our waiter was excellent! He kept taking care of us and making sure everything was perfect. In addition, the food was delicious! We had an incredible rib eye steak that was excellently cooked and high quality meat. Overall we really enjoyed and will definitely return when we come back to Boston!
A great find on a quiet street in Harvard Square - extensive menu with a wide selection of pastas, fish and meats - our group ate venison, pasta and sole, all delicious - and an extensive wine list of Italian wines. Good sized portions. Friendly, helpful and attentive waitress. Great setting in a well designed restaurant - will definitely come back.
My guest and I found the service to be friendly and attentive. My guest commented several times on how nice the server was. The food came out fresh and at the right temperature. It was all very tasty. Toscano is terrific for desserts. So save room! It's more expensive than many other Italian restaurants, but not so much that you feel the pinch too much.
I brought my lovely lady out for her 25th birthday,
Toscano was fantastic to say the least.
Our waiter was all smiles, informative and prompt with service. Let's just say I tipped more than 20%.
The food...Good God! Exquisite!
Spinage stuffed raviolis are exceptional.
Thusly, I felt as though some compliments were in order to be left in a thank you note on the receipt. Great stuff, Toscano!
The atmosphere was full of conversation from people of all backgrounds and ethnicities. There was such a visceral energy in the air, it felt good.
I'd recommend Toscano to anyone who may visit Boston.
I like to think a fine Italian restaurant has a taste of high class nostalgia, like an ol' gangster movie.
A manager even thanked my lady & I as we left.
We are the ones who are thankful.
For your wonderful hospitality.
We shall return again.

We arrived 30 min late due to traffic coming from NJ to Boston but they were very accommodating. We tried to call but only connected with the answering machine and the Open Table app would not allow us to modify the time?
The Salumi meat & Cheese appt. was delicious as was the Barata Caprese
The mains were also fantastic , The veal Special , Steak Au Poivre and the Taglitelli Porcini
Nice wine selection and very authentic and Romantic decor.
Our dinner at Toscano was outstanding. Very good service. Excellent food with large portions at not an outrageous price. And, an understated but lovely tiramisu with a candle to acknowledge the birthday of one of our party. My only complaint about Toscano is that sometimes it can be too noisy and therefore difficult for an intimate conversation. However, this time the buzz was welcome, creating a lively atmosphere and still allowing for conversation.
This was our 5th time coming back and have never had anything less than perfect. Most notable was the service people. Our wait staff was special. Food is consistently excellent and martinis are yummy. We especially like that were not rushed and allowed to eat and talk at our own pace.
We finally thought ahead after not being able to get in without a reservation for pre-theatre lunch(brunch). All four of us were pleased with the whole experience, not rushed, lots of coffee, could find things on the menu appropriate for geezers. Great window seat , nice deduction with Loeb tix. We'll come again. We were all able to get parking for the 11:30 a.m. slot on Sunday.
The cod piccata special was out of this world. Eggplant parmesan also delicious. Only "negatives": cod entree was light and left me wanting more, and the eggplants does not come with a starch, which it could use to really make it a meal, rather than a side dish.
