I got sick after we ate ! Tomatoes out of season in arugula salad tasteless . Very disappointing.
First of all, the room is lovely and inviting. It is especially cozy on a cold winter night. The wine list is bountiful and good in the coverage of Italian wines. Our Caesar salad was tasty and ample for sharing. The Boar bolognese was non-descript. This was our third visit to the restaurant and we will give it another try. The most disappointing part was our entrance to the restaurant. The hostess greeted us with a non- welcoming “Yes?”. There were so many other options - “Good Afternoon!”, “ Hello, how can I help you?”, “Welcome to Toscano...”. It’s not hard, but so important.
Its a nice restaurant but It was just too loud for an enjoyable, expensive night out. The noise detracted from a special occasion. I didn't remember this much noise from our last visit. Hard to converse. Tables are pretty close together. We heard all about our neighboring table's politics - strongly supportive of current regime - (in Cambridge?) There were just four of us but we had to shout to be heard. We were encouraged to start with a shared appetizer consisting of four samples from the appetizer list. What arrived for $52 (didn't know that up front) were four plates overflowing with food - would have been enough for our four meals. We were pretty stuffed by the time entrees arrived. Menu is huge. Food was very tasty - pretty rich - and portions were awfully large. Hard to get waiter's attention at times. We were exhausted by the time dinner was over. It was nice to get outside and away from the din.
The restaurant is excellent! The selection is vast and everything we ordered was very good. My only complaint is that there was no Rose’ wine and that shouldn’t be the case. It’s no longer just for the summer. So, please add some “pink” choices.
Met family there. Excellent choice! Perfect food, ambience & service. Highly recommended.
Toscano’s never disappoints; very reliable great dining experience.
After waiting for 55 minutes after our order was placed, the dinners were served. My pork chop (beautiful to look at) was absolutely raw. We did not have tie for it to be recooked. They did remove it from the bill and provided complimentary coffee and dessert. My wife's scallops were outstanding.
We have eaten here many times. I was so surprised by the time lapse since 3 tables around us came in much after us and they were finished with their meals by the time wee were served. This was not the norm for the restaurant. The raw meat was a different matter.
I do hope that this doesn't happen again since we will return here.
It was all of our first time here. Delicious food, wonderfully kind service, and perfect atmosphere for good conversation!
We had a wonderful waitress, Rosa, who was Knowledgable with the menu, made suggestions and was extremely attentive and friendly. The ambiance was cozy and warm and just delightful for a dinner with my 12 yr old and my senior parents visiting from out of town. We enjoyed everything from the wine, steak, swordfish, soups and appetizers (grilled calamari and bruschetta).
Wonderful place to go for special occasion. To just wanting a good meal in a quieter space. We will be back soon!
We arrived after theater at 10 pm with a reservation, and were seated immediately. Ordered 3 appetizers for the two of us ; they came quickly as did the wine we ordered. The kitchen closes at 10, so we had been urged to order quickly, which we did. We relaxed to outstanding food and drink, a very laid back environment, and enjoyed ourselves greatly.
These people know how to do pasta. Best pasta I have every had, friendly and professional service, good prices for Cambridge, and beautiful ambiance. What more could you ask for?
Always fun getting back to the square seeing the people I worked with and have fun. Always a food beverage and fun ambiance to check if anyone hasn’t.
My out of town guest was happy to return to Toscano. We both enjoyed our meal. Will return soon.
Staff very unfriendly as usual.
Suggestion to the restaurant:
- don't close your kitchen at 10pm if you take reservations at 9:30pm.
- don't wait to smile until 2 minutes before bringing the bill. Also try to keep up that smile once you got the tip (e.g. a simple "thank you" won't kill you);
Made a reservation when I knew I was coming back to Boston. Once again had an AMAZING dinner experience! They had a table right by the window for me this time. Thomas (the server) was exceptional! Always seemed to be there when I might want something, but not pushy. Tried the Osso Bucco this time. So tender and flavorful, with creamy risotto along with it. Will definitely be back next chance I get to enjoy more this amazing food in such a warm, inviting environment.
A wonderful birthday lunch. A wait person Susan Fabulous job explaining the specials and clarifying items on the menu. Tuscano was able to accommodate special request by the birthday person. The food was delicious exceptionally good, service was great
,ambiance most pleasant
Delicious Osso bucco and gnocchi
Delicious food! Great service and really nice atmosphere. Would highly recommend
As always, the staff is awesome and attentive in a really nonintrusive way. Oh and the food is always good.
I like this place. The ambiance is nice - dark and cozy. The menu is varied; cocktails good and our service was professional and awesome! I would recommend it.
Food was fantastic and the wine list is good. Will definitely be back
Not only were our meals terrific, but the service was exceptional. Our son got a bloody nose during our meal and our wait person did everything she could to help.
Great Italian food with excellent presentation. Also great service
We were a cew minutes late and called to say so. Whem we arrived the host came to the table and told us the table had another reservation coming in and we needed to be out by 7:30. This made us feel a bit awkward. We hurried to order and then made a point to leave by 7:30 but the restaurant had several empty tables at the time and it seemed a bit unnecessary. I might factor this in next time I choose a spot to take my Harvard student.
Outstanding, best meal I’ve had in Boston and tremendous service
Fabulous food, service was outstanding, nice ambience. Looking forward to next visit
Swordfish can be dry and bland, but the swordfish entree here was excellent! Cooked perfectly, a generous size, very flavorful with a wine, butter, caper sauce. I’d go back to have it again! My friend also loved her cod entree. The ambiance was very nice with lots of windows and natural light. White linens, but not fussy or pretentious.
Food was delicious and our server was amazing!
Three of us enjoyed the scallops with leeks and spinach, the the fourth had venison - all DELICIOUS! The service was unobtrusive and very efficient.
Toscano is in Harvard Square. In Harvard Square there are intelligent people who would like to talk to each other during a meal. So why does Toscano enable a noise level during dinner roughly that of Grand Central Station during rush hour? How about some noise suppression? Don't come here if you would like to talk to your dinner guests.
We arrived on time and were kept waiting a very long time to be seated with the explanation that bad weather kept the tables from turning. I explained that we'd braved the weather to be on time. Somewhat surely and brusque reply. They would have won many points if they'd offered us a drink at the bar while we stood around uncomfortably.
The noise level was high thanks to a table of loud men across from us. They were a bit soused so you'd think the management might have quieted them without prompting.
The food and service are quite good. The management staff not so impressive.
The food is consistently excellent with tempting specials always supplementing a wonderful menu which already has a wide range of choices. The service is also consistently top notch, attentive and working to make sure your needs are met.
Got a table last minute here on a Friday night. Got there a couple of minutes early and was taken right back to the table. Kate was an EXCELLENT waitress! Had the grilled squid for appetizer, and the rigatoni norcina for dinner. Both were done to perfection! While full, took Kate’s suggestion and had a special for dessert: a vanilla panna cotta. Amazing! Definitely will be back.
Staff fantastic, food was wonderful thanks. I would recommend to everyone
Toscano in my opinion is an upscale authentic Italian restaurant that we like very much. I will return for dinner on our next visit. I wish there are more restaurants like this in the suburbs of Massachusetts outside of Boston and Cambridge.
I just love this place. Rick Hayes is as good as they get. The whole staff is awesome. Out of a bygone era where service is just absolutely stellar. Food is superb. Wine list is killer. Desserts? Let’s not even go there cuz you’re going to take in some calories, yes, but damn! So worth it. Ambiance incredible. Elegant, festive. You just gotta love Toscano.
The restaurant was very nice & accomodating.
Too bad about Toscano. I'm often tempted to go there because it has a decent price point, nice ambience and a good location. Unfortunately, every time I've been the food has been very disappointing.
