Toscano Harvard Square
The service was good, but the food was bland.
Our table of 6 ordered the bruschetta (just tomatoes on bread), eggplant parmigiana app (best food of the night), grilled veggies (okay), minestrone soup (good), two gnocchi (so bland and so soft it was like eating mashed potatoes), salmon (okay), marg pizza (okay), shrimp (good sauce), and mushroom risotto (good).
The food was NOT worth the very expensive bill and it was a disappointing birthday dinner.
Again, service was good and they gave me a complimentary birthday dessert!
Never disappoints! When you're greeted at the valet by Roger you know you're in for a nice evening. His kindness is contagious. Followed by welcomed arms at the host station. The menu has something for everyone. Clean, simply prepared delicious food. Our waiter Peter was a star. We eat at Toscano often and our first time with Peter. He made some great recommendations for both food and wine - not overselling just providing good knowledge and assistance. He was fun and professional without being over bearing. Whether you're at the bar or in the dining room the level of service and quality and presentation of food is consistent.
I completely enjoyed Toscano's and would recommend it.
We were celebrating our anniversary and they gave us a lovely table by the window and a comp dessert which was a very nice touch. We'll be back.
All around good place.
Toscano is a great neighborhood restaurant! The food and service are really
terrific. Thanks to Cassie for making it such a welcoming place!
Horrible server. Rude & opinionated and totally spoiled our experience.
Second time at this fine restaurant. We were seated promptly on time for our reservation and the host and our waiter (Carl, I believe) were very friendly and attentive. Both are meals were excellent and they even surprised us with a complimentary dessert when they found out it was our anniversary. If you are looking at a perfect restaurant in Cambridge look no further!
Great location for an authentic Italian meal before a show.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Great service, great food, great atmosphere!
A neighborhood favorite, always an enjoyable experience. We are becoming regulars.
place to dine.
Tenderloin was first rate; caprese and tomatoes beautiful; wine options terrific. Server attention appropriate—all offset by the din—it was Saturday evening 8:30pm seating. Consider an early hour or weekday.
Good food, lovely setting on a summer day with the windows open to the street. Out of town guests were very pleased with the food, service and ambience
I liked the atmosphere of this place, the service was really good, and some aspects of the meal were tasty - the drinks, the desserts and some of the mains. The salad and starter we had were not good and the mains were hit or miss. I really wanted to like this place, but the food just wasn't great.
We love Toscano and go frequently. Delicious food, great service and comfortable ambiance. All in all a great experience.
Our server was excellent and attentive; wine list is quite good for the area, although one needs to order carefully to avoid some unusually high markups. Those wines that do not fall victim to the markup are very, very attractively priced.
Better than expected. Special touch on the heart shape swordfish and the complimentary dessert because it was our anniversary dinner. Thank you again.
I love Italian food and frequently travel to and through Italy for business and pleasure. TOSCANO at Brattle Street is a true Italian restaurant and the food tastes and is presented "the Italian Way". Congratulations!
Recently dined at Toscano with a friend. The staff were very friendly and and efficient. We started with drinks which were tasty. We split the pate appetizer which was also nice and they were kind enough to split in onto two plates for us. Then we both decided we couldn't pass up the special monkfish cooked in vin santo with pine nuts and golden raisins and chili flakes. (We both asked that they skip the chili flakes as that didn't sound like a good addition.) Unfortunately, the fish arrived and it was completely unappetizing. I'm not sure what exactly had been done to it, but it was rubbery and rather gross. I'm a big monkfish fan so I was very surprised. Also, the presentation was underwhelming. It was a big hunk of fish with maybe one or two pine nuts/raisons and two potatoes cut in half. That's it. I picked at mine and my friend sent hers back and got a risotto which she seemed to enjoy. They were very quick with her replacement which we appreciated.
Another enjoyable meal at Toscano! Thank you all.
We always come here after seeing a show st A.R.T. Our server was absolutely excellent. Food was very good, but not great.
As always, five+ star experience. Always considerate about need to make theater curtain but do not make you feel rushed. Our go to place for Sunday lunch when in Cambridge.
Rick always ensures an excellent dining experience!
We waited an hour for our entrees and had a half hour to rush to finish to get to the theater on time. This is the second time this has happened. Notniut waitress’s fault. Will not return when headed to the ART.
Lovely knowledgeable service
Wonderful for lunch - lively but not too noisy. Very nice low-key atmosphere, even with the white tablecloths and formal servers. Food was cleanly prepared and delicious
Food fantastic as always. Drink specials superbly tasty.
Had a visitor from out of town staying in Cambridge.
Thought Toscano would be a good choice and was not
Our server Peter was extraordinary
Went out of his way to accommodate each of our many special eating requests as did the chef
love the food here as everything is fresh but the noise level is horrible! One has to shout to be heard
Always outstanding, great service, substantial menu. Pan seared scallops were amazing as is the fresh bread, excellent desserts and, of course, pasta
Wonderful food and service in a great area!
There were flies bussing at the inside of the window next to our table the entire meal. Not sure why the windows weren’t open on the side but seems strange to have some open some not as flys trying to escape closed windows is a likely consequence.
My friends steak was way over cooked. She sent it back and the replacement was also over cooked (well done for medium rare order). She said that one was fine and ate it because 1) my meal would be done by the time another came out and 2) she didn’t want to embarrass whomever it was in the kitchen who didn’t know how to cook a steak. Other than that, it was just ok. I was expecting better based on other reviews!
Always tasty Italian food. The kitchen is a little slow getting food out, so theater goers should plan on two hours ahead of the play/movie to be safe.
service was courteous and attentive, dining room was luxurious, and the meals were exceptionally well prepared and presented
Food and service are always excellent. The noise level is becoming unbearable.
Every single dish we had was spot on. Food was delicious.
Toscano's had been a Harvard Sq favorite for years. The window seat, people watching possibilities are endless and the food, wine list and service are superb. Mushroom risotto, white bean soup and a hearty Tuscan red sent me home happy.
Always love this place. Thanks to management again for a generous and delicious, well-prepared dine-out boston menu. Vitello tonnato was stellar.
