Tosca Ristorante - Ottawa Ratings and Reviews
Food was wonderful. We had a Gorgonzola tortellini, chicken parmigiana, and manicotti. All homemade all delicious. Service was very attentive despite the very busy evening. We finished off with a piece of chocolate cake gluten-free it was delicious would definitely go back!
Food was delicious as usual. We were there on Saturday night and the restaurant was full and so it was noisy. As the evening progressed and people left, it became much more quiet and my wife and I could hear each other! Being December, I suspect that the larger groups were workers having a Christmas dinner together.
Bottom line - for the price, the quality of the meal was excellent. We will be returning when we want a good, Italian meal again.
I was pleasantly surprised by this place as I had never heard of it before and was curious to try the food. the caprese was good, but would have been even better had they used a ripe tomato, as it was hard and watery and pale. But, the cheese was creamy and fresh, and once they brought me the olive oil instead of the balsamic topping I was in heaven, as they use a nice oil. Very earthy. My husband had a pasta dish , the noodles were al dente and the sauce was really flavorful. Well done. We also tried the smelts and they were perfect, lightly fried with hot peppers and olives, I would go back just for that and a glass of red wine at the bar ;) the lemon sorbet was one of the best I've ever had, tart and fresh but not too sweet. Only reason I didn't give an outstanding rating on the service, was because is it was a bit disjointed and unorganized, ( i think there were two junior servers working? the one clearly senior person who was on the ball was in fact, perfect) but everyone was so pleasant and wonderful with the kids so not a big deal. thank you for a wonderful experience. we will be back .
Wonderful Dining Experience!
My husband and I were visiting Ottawa to see our daughter who is studying at Carleton University. We selected Tosca after reading the reviews and made reservations. The place was filled when we arrived but we were seated in 5 minutes. The ambiance of the restaurant was ver warm and welcoming. We were all so pleased with our meals, and the service was top-notched ! We will definitely return again!
All four of us enjoyed the dishes we ordered that were well prepared Italian specialties. It was a welcome change to dine in a place where it was possible to carry on a conversation without having to shout to drown out the background noise. The service was most attentive but not to the point of being intrusive. We will definitely go back again.
We totally enjoyed the food. Service was excellent. Noise was a factor until we asked to be moved to the table with a booth. I would definitely recommend your restaurant. It's location makes it convenient to walk to if you're staying downtown, something we often look for.
Overall a very enjoyable experience. Thank you.
We were a large group of family members in town for a memorial service/family reunion. Typical of large groups we couldn't make a decision about a restaurant. At 4:30 pm on a busy Saturday afternoon I finally used Open Table to find Tosca Ristorante within walking distance of our hotel. We showed up for a 6:30 reservation for 12 and found a beautiful, private dining room awaiting us. Our waiter, Zou, was friendly, speedy, and a lot of fun. Food, cocktails and ambiance were wonderful. Great experience!
The food was good. The service was less than cordial. We asked for a table where we could have a private-ish conversation. We got a snarky remark about how full the restaurant was. (The restaurant was never more than half full.) Second drink order seemed to take an awfully long tome to arrive. Never was offered dessert.
The Veal Scalopine (sp?) was advertised on the menu as "a veal cutlet.." but was two thin slices of veal roast.
We opted to sit outside and found the air conditioning outlet very noisy and would never sit there again. Perhaps a wall extending down about 8 feet from the ceiling of the patio would block this sound?
Otherwise the starters were good and the main meals acceptable.
The food was delicious and the portions were perfect. Very tasty and quality ingredients. Prices are very reasonable. We live in Gloucester and would definitely go back. Worth the 1/2 hour drive. Waiters were very polite and friendly. Appetizers and meals were served in a very timely fashion. Would recommend Tosca Restorante for anyone who loves Italian food.
The service was terrible. I had a confirmed reservation for 15 out of town family members at 7:00 pm. We got there on time. They seated us right away but it took them nearly 30 minutes to take our drink order and another 15 minutes to bring us bread. We spoke to a manager who said they only had three servers on duty. For a holiday weekend that didn't make any sense. We didn't get our good until nearly 8:30. So disappointing. I will say though our busboy was very helpful and pitched in to help with our table.
It seems unfair to submit a review on what may arguably be their craziest, busiest day - Canada Day in downtown Ottawa! Despite that, our reservation was filled within 5 minutes of the reserved time. While we didn't get a nice cozy table, they moved us when one became available by the window. (We have this aversion to sitting in the middle of a room.) The management and staff handled the onslaught of drenched people (it was pouring outside causing mass mayhem), and they kept their happy faces on, moving quickly and providing amazing service. The food was good, but again, with the amount of unexpected people lined up and the restaurant packed to capacity, it's hard to say if the food was up to their regular standards. Excellent wine list! The only thing that we found uncomfortable was the music - Gangnum Style, while a fun song, didn't do anything for the ambience in our opinion, but when we commented about it, were told that they were playing upbeat music and dressing in fun clothes for Canada Day. One server commented that the regular music would "put us to sleep" which we'd likely enjoy, haha. We will definitely pay them another visit on a "regular" night when visiting Ottawa again!
I had higher expectations doe this venue. The food was good when we finally got it. Waiting twenty minutes to order then another twenty minutes for only one appetizer to appear. The wait for the entres was at least forty five minutes. The quality of this restaurant does not require that much waiting. The place was overcrowded and the noise level was horrific .The
server was rushed and not at all adequate.
We made a last minute reservation on Friday june16. We met our friends for a great meal. Our waitress (forgot her name and how to spell Solon something) was excellent. She honoured our wine choice that was not available with another choice for $5.00 more. Excellent we all had a Caesar salad great choice and all our entrees where different but great and delicious. Our friends come here frequently as well and they also enjoyed the meal.
Tosca was a wonderful find in the downtown Ottawa area. It was within easy walking distance from our hotel and the service and food were exceptional. The Tosca salad (lightly dressed tomatoes, red onion, cucumber and olive) was a lovely alternative to a plate of greens and both the Veal Parmigiana and the Gnocchi Gorgonzola, on our return visit, were exceptional. I could order the Gorgonzola sauce in a glass and use a straw!!! Both my sisters enjoyed the menu variety and the price point - also loving that you could order smaller portions for a reduced price on the pasta selections. Highly recommended.
