Tosca Ratings and Reviews
We were 15 minutes early for our 7:30 reservation. We finally were sat at 8pm, even with reservations. Not a good start. We had the oysters & liver & onions for an app. Both were delicious. Then we both decided to order a strip steak with asparagus & whipped potatoes for sides. The steak is priced the same as places like Abe & Louis or Del Friscos, however the quality was no where near the same. It was very grisly & fatty. Overall, we were both highly disappointed and thought it was way overpriced for what you get. The one bright spot of the night was our server. She was amazing.
I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday because it is his favorite restaurant and I can see why. The food and service were outstanding. It was noisey and a little dark but overall the atmosphere was great. Our waitress was excellent. She was friendly and attentive. I would definately recommend Tosca to anyone and will definately go back.
This was an early New Years Eve dinner. As always- the service provided by our server Andrea was flawless. Friendly, all courses well timed and responsive to every request. The food was so well prepared- every bite was delicious. Tosca remains our all time favorite.
I made reservations a few weeks ago for an early New Years Eve dinner. Our table was horrible, right next to where people were standing at the bar. Waitvstaff had trouble getting by and we constantly had people’s butts in our face. The noise level was outrageous. Food was good but way over seasoned. On a positive note, out waitress Jessica was wonderful
We chose Tosca for our anniversary dinner. As a brief summary:
-The waiter was knowledgeable and professional
-The tables are very close together and we were really unable to have a private conversation. In addition, the waitstaff was unable to easily move between tables at times.
-Cocktails (Cider Sangria and Old Fashioned) were excellent
-Our beet salad was not composed especially compared to the same salad being enjoyed by the woman next to us. The taste was fine, but the composition was unappealing.
-The shrimp in the "shrimp in a box" appetizer were greasy. In addition, no lemon/acid was available to offset it. A piece of lemon would have made a big difference.
We have had multiple pleasant meals there and will be back, however it seemed as if it was an "off" night.
Excellent menu and delicious creative food. Always a favorite of mine. Kitchen a bit backed up as our mains were slow in coming.. but well worth the wait. Excellent wine selection. Service was very friendly. Had swordfish in a tomato based glaze and it was out of this world. Duck was scrumptious. Squash ravioli was mouth tingling with natural sweetness. Loud atmosphere from high hard surface ceilings but wonderful main room ...and wine bar is quieter with some nice live Jazz. One of my favorite places in the Boston area.
Made a 7:30 pm reservation. Arrived at 7 and let the hostess know we were there in case our table was ready early. Sat at bar. Checked in again at 7:30 and said still not ready. Checked in again at 7:45 and still not ready. At 7:50 I asked to speak to the manager who then said there was nothing they can do. I complained to him as this was not the first time this has happened to us at Tosca as they consistently overbook and do not seat at your reservation time. At 7:55-8 they finally seated us. We were starving and immediately ordered an appetizer. Waitress clearly had too many tables she was working as she was nowhere to be found after our initial contact with her. We finally had to flag someone down to bring us bread after sitting for 15 minutes. When appetizer arrived it was cold.
Years ago this was our go to place and we often came with groups of friends and so we still give it a try at least once a year to see if service has improved but it has not. The space is beautiful but service is not good, understaffed, they overbook, and food is below average. Unless management changes I would not recommend it.
Manager did come over to our table before we left and apologized. Also took the appetizer and round of drinks off of our bill, but can’t make up for the bad experience.
Will not be returning anytime soon and there are other better choices on the South Shore.
I sent in a wonderful review a couple of weeks ago and I still feel the same. This time since it was payed by my company we could feel free to order in a more robust manner! The others wanted to try my tried and true liver and onions for an appetizer, along with calamari, and the steak tartare, followed by our main courses of a balsamic pork tenderloin, duck breast, scallops, and salmon, I think, followed by two fabulous desserts, which I was too full to eat.
Our waiter was Tim, who is amazing and had waited on us the week before as well as previously.
Tosca is my go-to restaurant on the South Shore but can hold its own with an restaurant in greater Boston!
Tosca is my favorite go-to when business associates or friends ask me for recommendations about where to go. I'm never disappointed and my dinner pals are always happy. I was happy to see a somewhat similar elderflower drink to the one I asked the bartender to make way back when this spirit first came into this area. I still prefer it without the blackberries but glad it's even on the menu!
Hostess completely ignored us upon arrival and helped the people that came in immediately behind us. Another host arrived and also ignored us. We must have been invisible. The. food and our waitress were great. I won’t hurry back though. Felt too cliquey and exclusionary.
Everything from when we were seated until we left was fantastic for our birthday celebration!
The wine list at Tosca is outstanding! The food was fantastic! I highly recommend the steak medallions . (this is also a gluten free option!
There was something for everyone in our party!
The quality of food on Friday evening under-performed expectations. The “chicken under a brick” was rubbery and the marsala sauce thin and lacking flavor. The pasta was overcooked and the sauces seemed thin. The mushroom pate was very nice. Great wine list, experienced waitstaff and good ambience. Not their best effort on that night, and at this price point I would expect better effort from the kitchen.
Our waiter was fabulous and food delicious. I will say we did fill pushed by the Manager who kept coming by and glancing at our table. We actually asked our waiter and he said it wasn’t us. However, he made us feel rushed so we settled the tab and moved to the bar. It wasn’t that busy and it did seem really pushy. Otherwise, everything else was awesome.
