Food was good and the ambience is nice!
Don't get any drink, my husband ordered a cocktail and wasn't tasting as it should have been, he returned after the first sip but they charged for it anyway...
I love Tortilla Coast. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to others. The ONLY issue I have is how NASTY the bathrooms are. Nasty Bathroom = Nasty Kitchen to me. Please work on keeping the bathrooms clean. It was really disgusting. I loved the food. I loved our waiter Steve. But I got a bit nauseated when I had to use the bathroom. Seriously.
We haven't been here in a while but the food wasn't as good as we've experienced in the past. We'll still come back though.
No wonder they are closed one of the worst experiences we have had in the service area of food..... waited 1/2hr to be seated not becuase was busy... no patrons...workers were fighting and not paying attention to people waiting to be seated. Once seated it was 45 min before a waiter came over ...left to get drinks 1/2 hr later another waiter came over to take drink order again as it seems our original waiter..LEFT?? Fighting still going on between staff and finally after hour and a half manager came over with our drinks and apologized and gave us a free aptzr for our trouble and took our orders. Whole process was crazy and good thing we were amazed by staff antics to get upset....we actually thought we were on candid camera as it was way to bizarre to really be happening.
I decided to eat here solely based on location and I regret it.
The service was slow to non-existant. The manager didn't seem to care as he was more interested in checking his phone. It was not very busy on a beautiful Sunday afternoon which was a cause for concern in a city where finding a place to eat outside can be hard to do.
The food was average and the pitchers we were talked into ordering for "their value" were $47.00 of 90% ice. Very disappointing experience. I have and will continue to tell anyone that asks that they should avoid that place.
Service could've been better (slow), bathrooms were awful, and drinks were weak. Best Mexican option in the area.
Terrible service. Was charged $3 for iced tea and never once received a refill. Same for my friend who ordered coffee. The server never came back to refill our drinks. Terrible food. The soup was cold. The nachos had almost nothing on them. There was a small dollop of beans, a few veggies, very little cheese, and watery sour cream. Then my friend's credit card was charged twice.
Awful service: slow and no follow up. Extremely loud. Atmosphere was like a frat party.
Only reason I would go back is for the queso - it is heavenly. And, when you receive the correct drink you ordered, it is also delicious, but be prepared to send it back a few times until you get the correct order. Also - don't go starving. It will take a very long time for them to notice you, provide you with menus and water, and even longer to eventually take your order. Doesn't seem like this place can handle large groups, it could be better for a date night just 2 ppl.
I showed up and was told despite my reservation that there would be an hour wait. My friends and I went to a different restaurant.
Service was slow compared to normal but generally has been good most visits. The food was great though as are the margaritas.
Waitress didn't check on us once, had to go up to the hostess to ask for more water, and the check. They also left the avocado off of my salad, which is a pretty key component in Mexican fare. I would've asked for it to be added had the waitress come by to check on us but she literally never did.
I just got back from an experience here. I had reserved a table of two and to begin with, when we arrived, the table was still not ready and we had to wait about 10 minutes. Despite our waitress being pleasant to begin with, she messed up our drinks orders and actually took an order from a bigger table of four that arrived after us, before taking our order. It took her about 20 minutes after taking our drinks orders to take our food order. I was extremely disappointed that there are only two vegetarian options on the whole menu. All the rice is cooked in chicken broth-just a heads up for fellow veggies (such an unnecessary element to rice) despite our waitress returning twice to ask if everything was ok, she never cleared our plates and never approached our table again. We had to ask two separate people for the cheque BOTH of which never brought it to us. The food was ok but I was highly disappointed with the whole experience. We were also charged an extra 13 dollars for a started of tortillas and guacamole which our waitress told us she would bring us with our glasses of water, which was slightly deceitful because she never stated we would be charged and she communicated this as if it was a standard "on the house" starter just offered.
I never like to complain and have actually never written a bad review before but I have to sadly admit I was very disappointed tonight.
Good food, good prices. A couple things were messed up during our service but things were removed from our bill and made up for appropriately. It was a Saturday night so it was busy. Yummy margs!
Overall food was good. Service was mediocre as I asked for water refill and never got one. Also my credit card was drastically overcharged. I am not happy about that at all.
My husband and I went here for Valentine's Day dinner. We've been to this restaurant several times because we live in the neighborhood and it's convenient. Normally, our experiences here have been okay, but this time not so much. First, the waiter was a bit curt. For example, when I asked if I could make a enchilada-for-a-taco substitution, I just got a "No". Second, I was also told the free appetizer on my account would not be honored because I didn't have my restaurant card with me (even though I had an email telling me I should come in and get it). Third, the enchiladas were actually quite good, but the tacos were very bland and tasteless (my husband shared his). The blood-orange margarita's were good too, but I was not asked if I wanted a salted rim (a small issue, but sometimes things add up). Finally, the next day I was informed by Open Table that the restaurant informed them we were a "no-show". Actually, when we arrived (on time) it was not busy, we were the first to be seated for dinner, and I specifically mentioned that we had a reservation through Open Table. We like to support the restaurants in our neighborhood, of which thankfully there are now quite a few. It's experiences like this that will help us make a better choice next time.
Decent place, a slight upgrade in ambiance from the Capitol Hill location.
I had higher hopes but wasn't thrilled. This was my first time here and I was craving good TexMex. I had the veggie fajitas, over-cooked and not much flavor, and a swirled margarita which wasn't swirled--just a hot pink frozen drink. It was OK overall and I might give it a second try.
We were excited to bring our out of town family here, having enjoyed the one at Capitol Hill for many years. Unfortunately, they disappointed on an epic level. So much so that we literally dropped cash for our mediocre guacamole and left.
We had a reservation and they had empty tables- yet they seated us late. It was so noisy we had to yell to talk to each other. The WORST part was the waitress- who we tried very hard to be patient with but my goodness she lied about forgetting about us, about forgetting our appetizer, forgetting our food, had convoluted and sometimes slurred explanations, and then after her apology and wanting to get another coke FORGOT THAT TOO. and to top it ALL OFF, she kept telling us the kitchen was just SO BEHIND, but when the table next to us that was seated literally 45 minutes after us got served...we marched right out of there.
It was ridiculous. I've never had to literally walk out of a restaurant before. After having had made a reservation and waited over an hour. We won't ever be back, to this le the other tortilla coast. There's tons of great restaurants in Logan Circle, so yourself a favor and skip this place. Walk down to Lalibela like we did.
Just passing through town. We stayed a good while and they made us feel comfortable. Food was tasty. Drinks even better
Very very poor service, the food was mediocre, and the price was not worth the experience
I was very impressed. The bartender created great drinks and was very personable. The food was super - authentic and great ingredients. Good service at the table too. I'll be going back!
Exceptionally friendly service. Food was perfect. Just what we were hoping for.
Great for large groups and birthdays!
The food wasn't very good. It was expensive for average-tasting Mexican food.
Visiting from out of town. This was a great local neighborhood find. enjoyed the food, staff was great, prices very reasonable
We went for brunch before going to the Studio Theatre. Bottomless bloodies and mimosas! The food was plentiful, hot and delicious. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating. We will be back.
It was good night but the waiter didn't seem too thrilled to be serving a party of 8. Overall it was a good experience.
We were there during happy hour. Mistake. Too loud to be able to have comfortable conversation with out of towners.
Guacamole tasted funny, the margaritas were fine, so was the salsa.
We ate there three Times during our recent one week trip to DC food is really really good however the service is very lacking in the speed
Food was incredibly bland. Service was average.
Very impressed with the quality and treatment of the meats coming out of the kitchen. My older daughter ordered a chicken enchiladas platter, and they were tasty and light instead of heavy/dense or (worse) soggy like you see at some restaurants. Younger daughter ordered beef enchiladas and the beef was braised well to be moist and chewy but carry the seasoning and flavor well. I had two tacos -- one mahi-mahi and the other carnitas. Again, the carnitas were clearly slow-cooked properly and moist with the right amount of chew and good flavor. Good beer list, light on the wine list though. Overall, stumbled into a great find for a Friday night dinner. Great outdoor area for good weather nights.
Went with a group of 8 to celebrate a colleague's farewell. Our server brought us a free queso, which was delicious! The pork/carnitas tacos were tasty. Service was great! Didn't have the churros this time, but they are awesome.
Service was quick!
Went here after the pride parade. Given that fact it was super packed and noisy, but we were expecting that. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Service was a little slow, but again the place was packed, so it wasn't unexpected. The food was decent. (My friend who grew up in Mexico said it was just okay.)
We love this place for DC Pride Parade watching. It's a madhouse in there but we had a great time and the servers had good spirits.
Our waiter was terrible, forgetting things and never checking in with us. We had to wait a very long time to receive drinks and food, if it wasn't for one spectacular hostess that's all we are having issues, it would've been a one star event but luckily she was great, but the waiter we had was awful.
The food and ambience were ok, but definitely not worth going again. The experience with the service was terrible: first I ordered a drink and had to return it three times because they never got the order right and when they finally brought the right one it was really bad. After the drink disappointment my husband and I were brave enough to order dessert. The waiter completely forgot about it and just brought us the check out of nowhere. In the end he even recognized how terrible our experience had been.
Our serverJamar was very attentive and friendly. He gave excellent recommendations on apps, bar, drinks, and entrees. My date and really enjoyed the guacamole. All in all it waseems great experience.
