The "original" Tortilla Coast has been a Capitol Hill institution for lunch, dinner, happy hour, and weekend brunch for locals, tourists and politicos alike since 1988. Happily offering tasty Tex-Mex favorites, world-famous frozen margaritas by the pitcher and generous hospitality, our legendary restaurant and watering hole is a fun, festive and unique spot from which to watch the capital"s movers and shakers in action.

They are so very nice and very attentive, but the food completely misses the mark. We would have done better at Chipotle. Very disappointed and expected more from this Capitol Hill eatery. We can handle the gritty atmosphere if the food is authentic and hits the mark, but this was not the case. I wish I didn’t have to report this, but feel other Open Table’ers should beware.

The food was fine but kind of bland and uninspired. The margaritas tasted like they were made from a cheap mix. The server was very nice, but took forever to ask us if we wanted a second round when our glasses were empty. She just disappeared. After we ordered a pitcher of margaritas to avoid having to wait again if we wanted more, she kept coming by to tell us it was "on its way" (same with the food). It was very slow (Sunday night) so I don't know what was taking the bartender or the kitchen so long. This place may be OK for a quick work lunch but with so many great places to eat in DC why waste your time on mediocre fare with slow service. I've had better from many local food trucks.

The food was AMAZING... I couldn't finish my burrito! Definitely a good, clean taste- not overly salty or oily and the waitstaff is very attentive!

I’m from Texas so my Tex Mex bar is high. But this was the worst Tex Mex and margaritas I’ve have in the DC area.

Exactly what you want from a Mexican restaurant. Food got out fast, but we did never get our water and they were very slow with the bill. But the food is exactly what you want from a relatively inexpensive Mexican joint. Good margaritas.

A Capitol Hill icon. It's not the best Mexican food you will have, but the service is fast, astute and breezy, the food is great, the chips and salsa keep coming, and it's steps from Congress.

We came for early dinner. Waiter was efficient but when we lingered he seemed to try to rush us. There were open tables and no line so we didn’t understand why he was rushing us. Had tuna tacos that had a very tasty sauce on them. The rice and beans were bland. I have had better margaritas.

Solid choice for middle of the road Tex-Mexican. Not the fanciest but exactly what you'd expect and definitely better than a Chili's/Chevy's level. Queso is on point! Will definitely be back when the craving strikes.

It was terrible. We arrived with a reservation. Identified ourselves and were told to follow the host. Next thing is that the host tells us that the table is too big for the two of us!!! But we did not sit there, he was the one sitting us there!
Next thing, we sat there for over 15 minutes. All waiters were waiting on the tables around us, but nobody seemed to react to he fact that we were waiting to place our order . No water was served. 20 minutes later we got chips and salsa. 10 minutes elapsed, but nobody would come to take our order. We are all the chips and salsa and waited 5 more minutes. Meanwhile others were arriving, were being seated and their orders taken but not us. After 35 minutes, we decided to leave. As we were leaving the host wondered what had happened, yet all of this time he was watching.
