Torch Bistro is a casual fine dining experience in the quaint town of Punta Gorda. Open for lunch and dinner with plenty of food options including fish, salads, soups, sushi and steaks. The menus at Torch Bistro provide for an eclectic gathering of different cuisines with everything from Irish egg rolls to Mediterranean salmon. Toss in comfort foods like meatloaf, pot roast and burgers and there is something for every craving.
For a starter that is a bit off the beaten path consider the yucca fries or the fried pickle chips. The pork buco is a best-seller featuring 18 ounces of slow roasted pork shank with a rosemary demi-glaze. Torch Bistro also accommodates private parties such as lunch parties, dinner buffet parties, wedding receptions and sweet 16 parties.
What a pleasant surprise! Tried The Torch for the first time tonight and left feeling like we struck gold! First we had a tasty salad with mixed greens ,strawberries, and mandarin oranges with a special house dressing. Everything was fresh and crisp. I ordered the prime rib with Yukon potatoes and a side of cooked zucchini. The meat was cooked just perfect with pink center, the zucchini was not overcooked and the potatoes were cooked properly. The presentation was very professional. Prices were perfect for the entree. The staff was attentive. We will return!
Heidi was our waitress and was AWESOME, food was excellent and there was a Happy Hour!
We brought food home..We will go there again!
Love torch bistro, great good, service above and beyond, Shane is wonderful knows his food, can't go wrong dining here. Definitely a go to dining experience.
Prime Rib ordered and served medium rare, as requested, with a marvelous horseradish sauce!
The food was outstanding, if a bit rich. Entrees are in the $28-$45 range. The Patricia Dean trio was excellent. The noise level was low so the jazz ensemble was easy to hear. The only complaint we had was cold coffee.
We had a group of 11. Torch put us into a private room, which ended up being a great spot. Heidi was our server and she really made the night. She is excellent at what she does! :)
We will definitely be going back here. Food was fantastic! I had the calamari which probably is the best I ever had anywhere. My husband had the Pork Buco. Again, best ever. Outside wine and drink prices were less than inside so eating outside is a money saver. Bartender was also our waitress. Friendly, helpful and on top of everything. Entire staff that we spoke with were great. We were given a menu to take home so that we can order take out when we don't want to cook. Great place!!
Our evening started by being promptly greeted and showed to our table. The server offered drinks while we looked at menu. The appletinis were delicious , the red house wine was good. My husband ordered the rib-eye steak rare, it came out to perfection. My stuffed flounder was very good. Presentation of both meals was very nice and served hot.
Our server was wonderful, but the two meals ordered were uneatable. The steaks were tough and chewy and the rice and vegetables were cold. The meals were removed from our bill.
This is my wife's first choice every year when her birthday comes around. I always ask where she would like to go and I always hear the same answer. "The Torch". I usually have the reservation made before I even ask her. At any rate this year her birthday was a rousing success, thanks in part to the great staff and food at The Torch. Heidi was our greeter/server/bartender and I think she was born to the hospitality business. She was super with everything from explaining specials and everything on the menu. The chef at The Torch has done a great job of providing a diverse and yet unique menu. Our food was perfectly cooked and seasoned and we totally enjoyed it. Thank you Heidi and The Torch for making my wife's birthday special.
Amazing service, delicious food and great scene! Highly recommend
All was very good. We thought the food could have been better. Service excellent. Price was "reasonable". Have had lunch there & thought it was better than our dinner.
Too noisy. The bar tender is friendly, but really loud. It's strange that the staff yell back and forth to each other while on the floor. Example: every time a new customer walked in, the staff would yell to each other, "DOOR!!!" Their general behavior does not match the atmosphere the restaurant seems to be aiming for.
Service was inconsistent: one moment attentive, the next moment forgetful.
The Ahi tuna dinner was served almost cold. The vegetables were swimming in butter or oil. The prime rib was very disappointing. The Thai chicken dish was good.
There are many very good restaurants in Punta Gorda. We will perhaps try The Torch again for lunch, but not dinner.
Munched lunch with a good friend during a summer heat wave--not many in the restaurant so think it might be a dinner-time location. Good salads & fulfilled our needs just fine.
From comfort food to duck, Torch's menu is full of variety and delicious offerings at very reasonable prices. We highly recommend this restaurant.
The Torch should do something about the noise levels. Even when their not to busy, the noise of conversation, etc, is high.
By reducing the noise the experience would be even better.
Love the people there.
I read reviews before going and realized that they probably do some things well and others not to everyone's taste. My husband and I were both pleased with the bruschetta appetizer and the seafood fra diablo and ahi tuna entrees. Our friends not so much. They had the osso bucco and duck. My husband had already inquired on whether the duck was pre-cooked and when informed yes and it wasn't available rare he chose to pass it up. Our friend ordered it anyway. It turns out that was not a good idea as the duck is Peking style and that is always on the dry and tasteless side. Our other friend ordered the osso bucco which is usually very moist and fall off the bone tender after proper braising. This was also dry and far from fall off the bone. My conclusion is that I would eat here again, but, for 1st time dinners careful questioning of the server is a must to find out whether what you are ordering is something you can enjoy. Our server was delightful and did comp the duck meal because it wasn't eaten. She charged for the osso bucco because it was. I thought that was fair.
Our first time here. Great food and menu and fair prices but. disappointed in the ambience. Tables only no booths. Piped in music and noisy from the bar and other tables. Service was very attentive and pleasant but we had to ask for 5 or 6 items which should have been provided without asking.. Ketchup for fries; xtra napkins and knife for ribs; lime for gin and tonic; salt and pepper for the table. anchovies for salad. So while the food and selection were very good , I personally did not feel comfortable. Not certain if we would return.
This is the kind of place that when you walk in the door you just know that it won't be a good experience. We were treating two friends to a night out and they chose the restaurant so we didn't make any negative comments. Our reserved table was not reserved, the wait staff were loud and patronizing, the meal was mediocre, service was very slow, poor ambience....just a place relying on quantity not quality.
By the way Open Table you should review your affiliation with this establishment or you run the risk of cheapening your brand.
The decor is very modern. The bartender could not make a Rob Roy and I had stuffed flounder. I thought it might have been a frozen commercially prepared product and they just heated it up. The vegetables were delicious.
Service was exceptional. We were a party of 12 and our waitress, Lenore, could not have been better. Prices on the "summer menu" are surprisingly low, as were the drink specials. We will definitely return.
I have never been disappointed with the food or service at the Torch Bistro.
My osso bucco was a little over done and dry. I was a little disappointed in it because when I have had it before it was excellent, juicy. Also I think their wine is overpriced. $7 for a glass of wine in Punta Gorda Fl is what I would expect to pay in a more upscale area.
Food is exceptional. Specials/promotions are well thought out and attractive. They appear to have the kinks worked out with the staffing by attracting the "want to work staff" - the bartender must have done the training as she hustles and makes the diners feel very welcome - she remembers you! Any issues are dealt with immediately and professionally. Management meets you at the door - they present themselves well and you know the staff versus the client. We've had the prime rib several times and it is consistent, the stuffed flounder, the salmon, the chicken pot pie and the ribs are presented very well and served hot - the plate has been heated (nice for slow eaters like me)! Kudo's!!!
Ordered appetizers and barely stared to eat them when they came out with the soup we ordered. We felt rushed during the entire meal. The restaurant was very loud and could barely hear my wife talk to me. The food was OK. Clam chowder was watery not creamy, and the meal was just OK. Not that spectacular. I would not go back again.
We went on Valentine's Day because they had a regular menu with normal prices. It was packed, but our food was good, our waitress was excellent, and the noise level was nearing uncomfortable. The ambiance is cold and chrome, but interesting.
Brought my gf here for valentine's day. they had a vday menu that was a bit more expensive than thier regular menu. It was way more expensive but the food was great.
I would not recommend this restaurant for a couple of reasons - the place was very noisy even at 5:00 pm as it very open to the bar area; the food was not hot - mashed potatoes were luke-warm and tasted reheated. I had the prime rib and although it tasted good, it was a very thin piece of meat.
The service was very good. The waitress was attentive but not intrusive and checked back with us once out dinners were served.
Pork, duck & ribs were great. I do not recommend the prime rib, it was tough. My rule of thumb, if my butter doesn't melt on my veggies it goes back to be heated back up. All 4 meals were warm & not sure if it was the server or kitchen. $4 Martinis was a plus.
The food and service was fine but a 20% gratuity/service charge was added after tax so the gratuity was 27%.
Another dissapointment was that for the second time we were at this restaurant we were not told by the server that the gratuity was included. Fortunetley one of our party noticed it. Then to further confuse you when the credit slip arrives for signature the amount which included the gratuity says "PRE-TIP AMT" folowed by a blank line to add the tip. So if you weren't studious you might have left another 20% on top of the 27%.
I believe gratuities should be based on the service provided and left to the discretion of the diner which in most cases would be at least 20%.
The food was taste good but was not very hot, There were 12 of us in a nice room. When the food came out two of the people had to wait for their food as everyone else ate. It might be good for a small group say 4 to 6 people.
Although the service , food & atmosphere was good I made a reservation with open table and in the special comments stated that it was my fiancés birthday and not a word was mentioned during the entire visit.
We had an excellent dinner with some terrific calamari in a light chili glaze. Prime Rib was good. Pork Awesome Osso Bucco was exactly that! The restaurant could consider table clothes for dinner, as it is a little dated, but the food was fine. It was easy to reserve, because it is a bit from the restaurant strip. We are glad we tried it.
Because you order special at 10.99 each you AUTOMATLY get charge 20% TIP EVEN THOUGH YOU HAD 0RDERED OTHER ITEMS, LIKE SCOTCH, WINE, DESERT AND EXPRESSO.tHE pRIME RIB WAS 10.99 EACH, WE ORDER AND GOT CHARGED 24.95 FOR THE TWO.WHEN YOU ADD 10.99 TWICE IT TOTALS 21.98. I GUESS THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO ADD. ANYWAY THAT IS THE LAST TIME WE WILL EATE THERE.
Always enjoy my time at The Torch! Food & friendliness best describes this Punta Gorda spot.
Love reserving the "booth" in the bar. Great food & prices.
We went with another couple to try the two for twenty two Tuesday special.
We had the stuffed sole, a chicken dish and prime rid that were all very good.
The regular menus prices were reasonable so we will be back.
The food was very good, the service was too fast, we were feeling rushy.
This was a restaurant we have wanted to try out, but had not heard much about. We were very impressed as we entered the restaurant...the décor was modern and stylish. We were greeted and seated immediately. The wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The food was delicious. My husbands steak was prepared perfectly. There were so many entrees on the menu that we wanted to try, we will be going back many times!
We went here for New Year's Eve, an early dinner at 7. Sorry to say, the atmosphere was very frenetic, with a host who was yelling at everyone and unable to set a welcoming mood. The appetizers were all excellent, especially the fried artichoke hearts. However, all of the dinner choices were bland and somewhat disappointing. The waitress was very efficient and friendly and made the evening pleasant. Her recommendation of the orange cake dessert was spot on.
