Perhaps it wasn't the best time to go as it was the end of the season and Toppers had switched to only offering their Deck Menu but I found the dishes they did offer to be very uneven in quality with one (the Lobster and Crab Cake) being delicious and the other (the fries accompanying the Wagyu burger) being so heavily seasoned they were unpalatable. The service was at a very high level and the location is outstanding.
Fantastic meal with great ambiance. Chef never disappoints! Love the retsto oysters. Toppers will be closing soon for the season but I’m looking forward to Spring reopening !
Toppers at the Wauwinet is one of a kind! Superb sunsets can be enjoyed from the lawn with a cocktail. The bartender, Danny, is friendly and accommodating. Alex our server was terrific. The food never disappoints with lots of local favorites. There's an extensive wine list too. Outdoor dining on the deck made comfortable by overhead heaters. It is a trip from town but it's worth it!
Booked because listed as restaurant week through 10/1. Arrived and told NO, they ended Thursday but not advertised that way. Bait and switch!
Family dinner with visiting siblings during restaurant week in Nantucket. The sunset view is great and was particularly spectacular the night we went. We arrived about 1/2 hr before sunset and sat on lounge chairs on large lawn on the inner Nantucket harbor. The 3 course prix fixe ($45) menu was a great bargain (probably less than 50% of usual individual price for the items). The food was outstanding - fresh, well prepared, generous portions and delicious. Service was outstanding and pace or serving excellent. Never waiting but not rushed to finish your food quickly. Comfortable (heated), beautiful outside patio with view and classic old time inn restaurant and bar inside. Look for restaurant week (June and September) in Nantucket and go to Topper's for the sunset and food. It was great for the soul!
Very disappointed with the selection for restaurant week!
Topper's is one of our favorite places in the world - bar none. A special place, and worth the trip to Wauwinet. The service is impeccable and the atmosphere is gorgeous. We have the tasting menu, which takes the guesswork out of ordering from so many wonderful dishes. The wine list is amazing.
Beautiful setting and awesome Lobster Rolls! This place is always on key list when visiting the island!
This is one of the most overrated restaurants on Nantucket. The wine list is the only thing that is amazing, if you are willing to way overpay. We have been coming here for years and some things don't change! The food is mediocre at best. The service is abysmal. The servers are lazy and take forever to bring your drink order. Sitting under the awning is the equivalent to sitting in a sauna / greenhouse on a hot day. The lower level is hot because the umbrellas do not protect you and there is absolutely zero
View of the water. This is a classic example of people being blown away impressed by beautifully planted flower boxes.
Anniversary - great experience !
as above but seated in a cold drafty table.
Service was rushed for fine dining.
Very arrogant staff, rude managers and poor quality food and service. The horrible dining experience and $1800 for six people was not something our family will experience again. Would not recommend Toppers.. make sure you are aware of 2 different dining menus one for outdoor and one for inside. They really push their tasting menus and caviar!!! Food was bland and the squid ink risotto was inedible! Overpriced but they don't care because tourists will support. The entire experience was all NO's and there were no Yes's unless it was an up charge.
Don't book late reservation 8pm+ because despite we booked more than 2 month in advance you will end up outside. And we confirmed 2 days before to be inside. They optimize and clearly didn't care. We will not care if warm but of course it was cold outside.
Food is good but nothing special for this level.
Wine list is exceptional
Girgeous sunset, fun relaxed outside deck table.
We were 8 and feel like we have a new go to!
Doyd Fletcher is the best server on the planet!
I have been a few times now and while I always enjoy my total experience I continue to be somewhat underwhelmed by the food. Its good just not spectacular. The hostess, wait staff and wine staff all were and have been very accommodating and genuinely aiming to please. We have always been outside during the day and it really is a very special spot and I do think it is worth a trip up island to check out. Finally, the wine list is amazing. It is hands down my favorite one on the island (n.b., very heavily stocked with French ); there are pages of pages of wines that I love or have always wanted to try with a very wide variety. Also, the most extensive collection of half bottles I have seen anywhere in the world which was a huge bonus for our group.
We started our experience with a scenic boat ride to the Wawinet . Upon entering Toppers we were warmly greeted and shown to a lovely table in the garden. Our wonderful server could not have been more charming and accommodating. We ordered from the ala carte menu so we could try many different dishes, everything was perfect and delicious. We loved watching the glorious sunset . After dinner we strolled around the grounds and through the Inn and were enchanted. Next time we come to Nantucket, we'd like to stay here.
We've had great meals at Toppers in the past but this time was a disappointment. The service was slow and inattentive and the food was so so. The location is stunning but for the money, there are much better options on ACK.
Annual end of season visit, underwhelmed by service and food this year. Even skipped dessert based on the lackluster options.
Although there was some debate within the family whether it was the absolute best, this restaurant definitely is at the very top of the list of the best restaurants on Nantucket. Everything on the island is outrageously expensive so 'value' has to get suspended somewhat. But, taking that into account, this restaurant was definitely worth it! Plus, personally, we loved that it was out of the downtown hustle. Memorable, as is the view!
