Four of us enjoyed a tremendous dining experience to celebrate a birthday. This venue is outstanding! Built into the mountain, boulders exposed, 360-degree view of Phoenix...It is an excellent restaurant, part of the Marriott Tempe at the Buttes hotel. We were so fortunate to have Jacqueline as our waitress, and Eric as her attentive assistant. Food was incredible for all four of us: 2 pork tenderloins, 1 chicken breast, 1 NY strip. Wow...perfection! Everything through to dessert was great, including the presentation, temperature, quality, quantity, attention to detail, timing, level of service, and cleanliness. A delicious Argentinean Malbec and gin martinis rounded out our meal. We couldn't be more pleased with our experience at Top of the Rock, and we will definitely return.
The food and ambience was wonderful. I’m bringing another friend here soon!
Amazing experience! Food was amazing, and beautiful view
We made a reservation for 8:00 with a view at a window. We arrived at 7:45 and were told that the table would be ready shortly. We sat at a table top table waiting for the window table. At 9:15 we were sat at a table looking out at the parking lot. We were so disappointed with all of it.
It was my 75 birthday and the service was terrible, my husband's New York steak was cold, we waited 45 minutes for the appetizer and then they offered us complimentary desserts and we ordered coffee with the deserts. We never received the coffees. We complained to the manager on duty, Alysse Butler, who was very apologetic but by that time the damage was done.
The waitress was nice but her interests were with other guests so our service was lousy. Our group has no desire to ever eat at the "Top of the Roch" again.
Excellent service, Lisa, the donut appetizer was a wonderful experience of tastes! Food was also excellent ,
Perfect in every way, from the moment we walked into the restaurant to our last sip of wine. I had the duck, it was cooked perfectly, my husbands steak was cooked perfectly, apps were good. We will definitely be back.
I'm a loyal Marriott fan but this restaurant misses the standard. This is not a complaint just some advance. Signage to this remote location is non existent and the GSP will not get you to the entrance. At night time just pray you don't drive off the mountain. The food was served under-cooked and inedible, the water glass was presented with a visible lip mark.
The server and the manager were upset with what happen and did all they could to apologize and compensate for the bad experience. I would have preferred a good experience and not have our evening so strained with issues.
Dear Marriott ... you are the biggest but this restaurant is not the best.
Wait staff attentive, views were excellent. Food not so much. For close to a hundred bucks per person with drinks I would have expected a lot more out of the kitchen. Food was average at best. Go for a drink on the patio but skip the meal.
OK let’s get right out there. For what you’re paying at this restaurant you should expect a certain kind of experience. I feel like they are trying to provide that but they are not meeting the mark. The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great. And the staff did not seem very knowledgeable about the wine list in particular. At a lot of comparable restaurants the staff would be able to tell you all about the wine and know full well all the details about it and help you decide on a bottle. I specifically asked about the tomato salad and if it was big enough to share with two people. He said yes, absolutely a lie. There is like four grape tomatoes on a giant plate for presentation purposes.
I feel like I’m paying for Flemings and getting outback steakhouse. Amazing views, and the restaurant itself is fairly cool.
I loved the view. It was a very nice night. The good was great!
I cannot rave enough about the excellent service, food and ambiance. You truly made my 30th birthday something I will never forget. The service was impeccable and the view was best scenery I have seen since moving out here 2 years ago. You will be one of my favorite dining experiences! From three waiters and friendly hosts, you were never without service. The chicken doughnuts are a must!
Great place for a group, we took our client visiting for the first time from Chicago and they loved it. Overall food, service and atmosphere was great!
Will definitely return
Had a great time! We were seated right next to the fireplace and in front of the window! The sunset was finishing and as we were taken to our table we were encouraged to take a picture! Food was excellent and cooked well. We had the Thai Shrimp and the cilantro made the dish. I had the filet with wild mushrooms - it was cooked perfectly! My husband had the halibut. We were concerned from some past online reviews, however it was also cooked PERFECTLY! I loved my couple of bites and I am not a fish fan! Drinks were incredible and I recommend the beet salad! beautiful presentation
We had mentioned a birthday as a celebration event and the staff forgot the request. Ver disappointing for that kind of place and $
Steak choices are "a la carte". Should include the sides given the prices.
Love the views. Service was wonderful.
The view and venue are spectacular, but the food leaves a bit to be desired. The waiters seemed to be fighting over serving us. We had the wagyu short ribs, which were suggested by the waitress, and they were bland, cold and chewy. Our friend had NY Strip and said it was good, but not to the desired temperature he requested. The apps were fantastic though - we had Thai shrimp and Chicken donuts. And the view is beyond magnificent. This was a business meal and our client had never been here. He loved the view, but we all were pretty "meh" on the food.
It is an expensive restaurant as there are so many extras required to make a meal. The parking situation just adds to the expense. There is no parking area close to the restaurant which would require using the valet for people with physical issues.
It was a birthday and a visit of an out of town daughter. At first we were disappointed by the remodel because it did not seem as nice as it was previously. It was also very loud, which it was not like that prior to the remodel.
Our waitress was very very personable. She was very attentive to us and was very efficient. The menu was scaled down so we each ordered something different. Filet. Short ribs, pork tenderloin, and the halibut. The short ribs, not very good. The filet, perfectly cooked, good flavor but slightly tough. The Pork and the halibut was really good. All in all we had a wonderful evening mainly because of our server.
This was our sixth or seventh visit; we try to go there each time we are in town for business. It doesn't disappoint, however, this visit wasn't as stellar as previous times. In part, because it was too cool to sit outside (no one's fault) and in part because our new server didn't quite get things right, delaying the meal. In her defense, she made right by the situation, so there are no overall complaints.
If you have allergy issues, be insistent they are communicated to the chef and double check with whoever delivers the food before tasting.
The location on top of a butte provides a beautiful view of Tempe and you can watch the parade of airliners as they approach Phoenix Sky Harbor airport for landing.
The service was quick, efficient and attentive (without being over-attentive).
The food was outstanding and the servings were just right with no leftovers.
The dinner was moderately expensive, but well worth the price.
We both were impressed with the experience and look forward to returning when in Tempe.
Went for my husband's birthday. We were seated right away and both the hostess and server were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. Food was excellent. We had the pork loin and halibut. For dessert my husband ordered the cobbler and they wrote happy birthday on the plate with chocolate sauce. The views were awesome and we'd love to go back again.
Food was terrible and very overpriced. Portions were so small. Only go there for a drink. The views are nice.
Great food with awesome service. Staff is very friendly. We were very pleased with our visit.
Great place for date night food was great. The view from the outside patio was amazing at sunset.
Food was AWESOME!!! THANKS TO ALL THE STAFF FOR MAKING THIS A GREAT EXPERIENCE!!! WILL DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY!!
Duck-rubbery and dry
Steak-ok but very dry
My girlfriend loved everything the food, view and waiters :)
Great view of the city from the patio and the food was delicious. Our server William was awesome! I would recommend.
Great atmosphere. But the server served me a wonton with crab in it and I informed them that I had a shellfish allergy prior to ordering food.. It could've ruined my valentines night if I consumed the crab that i had bitten into.
Wasn’t as good as expected for the expense. Set menu for Valentine’s Day which was fine but servers were not well informed about it. Brought wrong course selection twice during meal, did not ask my wife how she wanted her petite filet and it was very rare, and the duck breast was a bit dry.
Our waitress was wonderful. The food and drinks were spectacular.
We had several servers and seemed no one was in charged. Had to ask for drinks several times
They were out of chicken and other menu items on a Monday at 7:00 pm.
I don't mind paying a lot for a good meal...never a bad idea to splurge on ourselves! But this one just left us hanging. Peanut soup had really great flavor but was incredibly salty. Beet salad was wonderful. We both had the halibut (which one of us will always order if available). I grew up in a restaurant, eating halibut almost weekly. This was a small piece, overcooked, and again, very salty. Carrot cake special dessert was, hmmmm, very 'trendy'? Very small and more like a fruitcake. I'm all about trying new things, and I don't mind small portions if they leave you wanting more. This disappointed. Service was impeccable!
Food was average. Pork had no flavor. Halibut was good but a bit salty. Definitely not up to par for what you pay. The view from the outside patio is why you go!
Such an awesome experience. Great food, drinks, service, and view. Neysa was our server and she was the best, we loved her!
Restaurants was great. Just make sure Valet knows how to handle a stick shift vehicle.
This place has the potential to be magnificent, but unfortunately falls a bit short. The view at sunset is outstanding for sure. We were seated close to the fireplace, which was lovely. They do not have a bar, which would have been nice. The food was good, and the menu is very interesting, but the wine list was short. One of my primary criteria for rating a nice restaurant is the length of time from being seated to receiving a drink. This place took longer than expected.
Also, my husband ordered a martini with Belevedere vodka and they only had enough for one drink, which they made incorrectly - so he had to have a different brand. Perhaps we just visited on an off night (it was Friday). I would only go back if I was staying in the adjoining hotel.
