Top of the Market Ratings and Reviews
The perfect Dinner to start off our three day getaway, service was five stars, and the cuisine was spot on, especially the The cilantro sauce for the bread. Which was outstanding.
Will return as it rates the highest out of the remaining restaurants that we dined at.
Happy Holidays and thank you for the perfect experience
Friendly attentive servers and staff. Fantastic grilled octopus - Spanish style with interesting spices and bits of peppers and other vegetables. Delicious seared scallop and striped sea bass entrees. Good salads. The best seafood restaurant in San Diego. Expensive and worth it.
Great lunch. We were in San Diego for Thanksgiving and wanted to spend the next day by ourselves. We have here once before awhile ago and not impressed. This time was totally different. GREAT service and the food was perfect. Fabulous wine list and the staff is very knowledgeable.
Quiet Sunday dinner for our Anniversary. Have been to Top of Market several times. This time, very good. Service excellent, knowledge of server excellent, cocktails very good. Two dozen raw oysters good but with weird sauces, asked for and got usual ones. Split wedge salad, very good. Entrees, swordfish and sole, both very good.
Very good rating for food, does not justify the price charged. But don't forget the location and the view. Building sits over the edge of San Diego Bay, restaurant on second floor. Sun had set, so lights surrounding the harbor, with boats passing by make for a wonderful setting. So, the price for the very good meal and excellent service is justified
We dined with another couple after a sunset harbor cruise. We were early for our reservation but they were able to seat us without an issue. We enjoyed a cocktail before ordering, sharing an appetizer. My wife is gluten intolerant but our server explained that most of the menu could be prepared gluten free. Two of us had a half Caesar salad which was very good. Entrees were divided between the cioppino and the salmon. Both were reported to be very good. Our server was hit and miss. He had a bit of humor and was available but not intrusive. He picked up on one of our friends preferences for her cocktail and got it exactly right. He neglected to let us know about an upcharge for having the crab in the cioppino removed from its shell. My wife's cioppino was served with regular pasta and she is GF. When we pointed it out, he apologized, took the dish away and replaced it (and later deducted it from our bill). It's a great location on right on the bay and the view is great (although I had my back to it). We've been there a number of times previously and will likely go back but we'd hope for a bit better service for the pricing.
Our server and dinner was wonderful. We didn't realize a menu item had some Gluten in it, the server was quick to rectify and offer suggestions. The bartender was considerate and helped me understand the makings of a lovely beverage. Definitely worth the visit.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the special dishes on that evenings menu. Our choices of swordfish and scallops were delicious and the accompanying side dishes were complimentary in flavor and texture. The restaurant is located on San Diego Bay and offers wonderful views of Coronado, North Island NAS and the USS Midway. A leisurely walk along the Embarcadaro or to Seaport Village, before or after your meal, enhances the overall experience.
First time dining on Top of the Market. While our server Amanda and ambiance were on point, the food did not fulfill our expectations. I enjoyed the spinach and cilantro dipping sauce served with bread along with the gambas al ajillo, and the clam chowder was very flavorful but too thick for my liking. The halibut was not what I expected. The fish was over cooked and overall the dish was bland.
Not impressed with the entré I chose but still a nice night out.
Enjoyed the food at the Top of the Market. The food was very good. My guests were from the East Coast and they really enjoyed the table that overlooked the bay. The service was excellent. The waiter suggested two white wines to go with out dinner selections and offered a taste of each which helped us make out decision about which wine we wanted by the bottle. I had the dover sole which was cooked to perfection and the octopus as a starter.
My guests each enjoyed their cocktails as did I. We were not rushed and we enjoyed the opportunity to catch up since we had not seen each other in a long time. The restaurant certainly lived up to its reputation.
