Top of the Bay Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We have been coming to Top of The Bay for years now. No matter what you have whether it be seafood , steaks or pasta you will not be disappointed. My favorites are the calamari, scallops Nantucket and shrimp scampi. In the summer the upper deck is open for entertainment , cocktails and dining. The prices are right and now until spring you can enjoy their lunch and dinner whole meal specials!
A group of six of us met to get together post holiday. It was perfect. We had a wonderful waitress...Maureen, who was very social and simply a joy. She made our dining experience pleasant and enjoyable! Half of us chose the special which included a beverage (wine/beer), an appetizer, soup or salad and an entrée (about 10 to choose from) and a dessert. Delicious!!!!!
Reservations for 7pm. Seated at 7pm. Order taken at 7:10pm. (we had a party to attend at 9:15pm). Waitress waited 25 min. to turn in order. 30 min between appetizer and main course. Never asked if we wanted "another drink". Dinner came 10 min before we had to leave. We had a few bites, packed up the meals and departed. Manager blamed the waitress and gave us a gift certificate w/o telling me how much it is worth. Guess it will be a surprise next time we go? Waitress blamed the kitchen. Both of us ordered steaks med well. Both came rare, very red inside. I marked Food Experience as Fair, not because we didn't get to finish our meal, but because we ate the leftovers at home after finishing in the oven what the chef did not properly do on the grill.
Not sure who's fault it is. Don't care really. Restaurant was only half full at 7:30pm, so patrons did not overwhelm restaurant's capacity. We will return, because we figure our experience was a rare event at TOTB. (we have been there before). But as for NYE, the experience less than notable.
We have been to Top of the Bay restaurant a few times now. Once we just showed up and were seated right away and the other times we made reservations. Every time we have been there the food has been spectacular and the service was great! The view of the Newport bridge and the lights in Newport added to the ambiance. We will definietely go there again and will tell others about this restaurant.
We decided to try this restaurant as we are new to the area and exploring in the offseason. The location is great. We were there after dusk so not able to take in the view - but the dining area had ample window seating and large glass doors that open up to the view of the bay. The food was very good. I had the Filet Mignon and it was cooked perfectly. The service was friendly.
We have been to The Top of The Bay many times and always enjoy the water view and delicious food usually just the two of us. This time we dined with friends and we had a new waiter, (he was good) but the food could have been a little warmer. We had been talking up the experience to our friends and it fell a little short. I guess we will return alone.
Great spot. The food was average for the price. 1st time here. Hostess was less then thrilled to be there. Maybe an off night for her. Saw the lobsta special and had that portion was small maybe a 1 lb but I guess that's what 25 $ gets you.
I will return and try other menu items before i make a final judgement
This is my first time to this restaurant, although I have heard it advertised for years. We had excellent service, but the restaurant is very loud. The food is good, but a little overpriced. All in all, if you are looking for some local flare & do not want to drive to the beaches in Narragansett or Newport, you cannot go wrong dining at Top of the Bay.
Went to Top of the Bay a few times, quality varied at times, as the restaurant evolved through several new managements. The current management has really outdone itself in it's current incarnation. Celebrated my mother's birthday with 7 guests and had a fantastic time. Our waitress was superb, the food really outstanding, best scrod I've had that I can remember. Great menu overall and beautiful scenery overlooking the ocean.
The restaurant was clean and busy. The lady standing at the entrance gave us a 'meh' feeling as we walked in. She stood at the entrance with her elbows on the pulpit with her head in her hands. Not very welcoming. The place was busy and loud. The seafood was outstanding with no scimping on potions. The price was decent for what you got.
The Top of the Bay is a great resturant.. Ive been going there for mothers day a very long time.. Every time we go great brunch.. They should have it more often..Will always go back.. They are a great resturant during the the summer .. Great view.. Thanks karen
Top of the Bay restaurant used to be my favorite place to go for a birthday or romantic dinner. How things have changed. I made reservations using Open Table asking for a window seat for my birthday- instead we were seated at a table at the server's work area (where they put the cleared dishes etc - extremely noisy and unpleasant) even though there were other tables - not window tables but better places to sit-available. I ordered the ribeye with scallops, rare; I got a tough strip steak not ribeye, medium rare. Husband's sea scallops were not properly cooked-raw inside. Our server was nice enough but clumsy-part of my dinner slid off the plate onto the table- big mess- accidents happen. But its no longer worth driving 22 miles for dinner
The luncheon specials are a best buy. The baked scrod has been excellent on the four occasions I have tried it and has had excellent reviews from our guests. It has been flaky and not dried out. The clam zuppa in white broth featured cherry stone clams that were very tender.
I look forward to the view of the bay from the glassed in terrace.
I Booked A Table For Top Of The Bay. It Was To Celebrate My Wifes Birthday With 10 Guests. They Were Very Accommodating. I Was Able To Drop Off A Birthday Cake Ahead Of Time With No Problems. Once We Showed Up, I Didnt Have To Say A Thing. They Remembered Right Away And Wished My Wife A Happy Birthday. We Were Also Late Arrivals Due To Work So We Came Close To Closing Time. They Didnt Rush Us Out And Were Still Very accommodating. The Service, Food And Staff Were Excellent. To Date This Is The Best Resturaunt I Have Been To And Plan To Return Soon. I Couldnt Have Asked For Better.
We happened to be visiting and found the Top of the Bay by chance, but it certainly worked out very well. First, the view is amazing. The food is excellent, with seafood being our choice. The service was friendly and attentive.
The lighting was a little too bright for late evening dining, but overall still a memorable experience.
Lovely lunch. Food was excellent. Consistently Good. Service was supreme!! Didn't miss a beat. Can't beat the view - that's for sure - what can this restaurant do to attract a slightly younger crowd? I know they are trying - complete with a "scan the QR code" promotion on the door - people are missing a gem - shouldn't just be a lunchtime bastion for the seniors....Love it.
Top of the Bay Restaurant is a great place to eat. I've been there several times for lunch. There are great waterviews from the windows. The food has always been delicious especially their red clam chowder and clam cakes. The wait staff are always courteous and very attentive. I can't rate it high enough.
