Tony's Oyster Bar and Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I'm from New Orleans and I'm generally skeptical of restaurants who claim to serve New Orleans dishes, but Tony's does a good job. I've had their gumbo and blackened catfish and fried catfish. They were all very good.
I recommend Tony's as a nice place to meet friends or just have a good meal.
The food was okay. The hostess was a little rude I felt. She said I made the reservation late and there was another reservation that was at 8:30. She said can you all be finished in an hour and a half. I don’t think anyone should be rushed from there meal as well as there were several seats available. I’m not sure I will return.
The waitress was easily one of the worst I've ever had. She misquoted market prices for Crab legs by 33% and then basically left us without beverages until we had to beg for them all night. The food overall was pretty good, but when your told by your waitress something is $30 and then your bill shows $40. That's unacceptable. Also the restaurant really appears in need of some upkeep. Not a bad restaurant, just a very poor experience.
We were celebrating a birthday and had 9 folks. We had a 6:45 reservation and had a great table and great service. However, around 8pm, the noise level increased and the crowd coming in was so loud we had to leave. We couldn't hear our own conversations at our own table! I found the customers coming in at that time to be extremely rude to the other patrons still dining. Perhaps the hostess could have controlled this better. I'm not sure I would have dinner there again for that reason.
As our go to restaurant Tony's was great as usual. Greeted promptly and and seated where we liked. Our server Brittany has made our dining experience pleasurable many times. A personality to enhance your evening. Not a cookie cutter trained robot. Our meals we're excellent. Timing of appetizers salad and meals was right on. Our server never let us want for anything We have taken out of town guests and they have always liked it. We have tried many different items on menu and have enjoyed all. You cannot go wrong at Tony's Ask for Brittany as your server and you'll not be disappointed
Again, I enjoyed my visit as I have previous times. If anyone likes good music of all genre, try Tony's. The music is always surprisingly good. The bands are interactive and always leave you wanting for more. Hats off to Tony's for consistently providing good food, service and entertainment.
Not sure what others see in this restaurant.
4 of us went to dinner and each ordered a separate meal. Lobster tail, shrimp and grits, flounder etc.. each was more tasteless than then next. We left most of the meal on our plates. Certainly not worth trying again.
There was no atmosphere, seemed mostly dated. Our waitress was likeable and the raw oysters were decent, but it went downhill from there. One of us ordered the Crawfish etouffee - which was tasteless. I actually had never had bad etouffee, but there's always a first time. Another ordered shrimp and grits, again not good. I had blackened redfish that was ok. Another was happy with their fried oysters platter. All in all, a disappointing meal and we won't bother to go back.
I speak for my wife and myself. As a first time guest, and a seafood fan, I've had better and I've had worse meals. Maybe my expectations were set too high but, Being in Cary, across from a high end neighborhood, I had higher expectations. I consider Tony's to be slightly less than average. I've been to so called "hole in the wall" restaurants that had better tasting food. Tony's had a somewhat bland taste. I was disappointed only because I set my expectations too high as stated above. The price was only slightly higher than average.
Ate at Tony's on 6/2.Been 2-3 years since I had been there. Nothing really negative, but on the other hand nothing wowed me. Portions are large, prices not bad. If I return I will go for the oyster bar or cajun dishes. Both my wife and I had something other then that and as I said, just OK. Good beer list, surprising to me the wine list was very minimal.
The food is always delicious. We ate at the Oyster Bar. After 2 hours of eating and drinking and talking our middle aged backs were all sore! There are no backrests on the stools. The ladies were also sad that they did not have hooks under the table to store their purses. Tony's needs to make that area more comfortable.
I really like Tony's I've been there a few times now and enjoyed every time I went. Service is friendly and attentive. Great live music on weekends, nice crowds and a bit trendy, but not overwhelming and and not too crowded. Good find for the money. If you cant find a table at 42nd St Oyster bar downtown Raleigh, you will find Tony's to be a great alternative.
