I notified the restaurant that this was a special occasion via Open Table and requested a window table with a view for 8pm. Upon arrival, I was told that the wait would be 15-20 minutes and that the only table remotely near a window had just ordered dessert, so that would be 30-45 minutes. I sadly took one mid dining room with no view for my "special" occasion. The waiter took almost a half hour to deliver an appetizer requested upon his first and only pass by the table until dessert. He was very curt and literally ran away after taking our entrée order, well after having finished our appetizer. He never took any beverage orders, so all we had was ice water, which he never refilled. The food delivery was equally rushed by the person who threw our plates on the table without care, mixing the dishes, despite us saying he was mistaken. The food itself was ok, but nothing special and WAY overpriced for the tiny unremarkable portion. The waiter swooped down a long time after we finished dinner to throw dessert menus our way and took 15 minutes to return to take a dessert order. Before finishing dessert, he threw the check on the table and said they were closing. I asked when they closed, as it was only 10:25 pm, and he replied we're closing, you can go to the bar! I just checked and the place takes reservations on Saturday evenings until 10pm!!!! So not only was my intention of some small recognition of the special occasion totally ruined, but the whole evening was a terrible experience with horrific shortcomings. I still tipped the brute 15% because I sympathize with server poverty, but he absolutely didn't deserve it! We spent 2.5 hours to be treated extremely poorly and not even be able to share a bottle of wine!
If you are going to Tony & Joe's for seafood only, this is a great place. The reason the experience only received two stars was the drinks were brought to the table in plastic cups and they were definitely watered down where my lady had to complain about it and request a replacement (the replacement wasn't much better). The service initially seemed ok until the young blond lady disappeared for a half hour and I had to walk up to her in order to get her attention. The response she provided was to bring me the check, but I wanted to order espresso and coffee. The coffee was not hot. When I paid the check, she showed up immediately. After anxiously waiting for dinner at Tony and & Joe's for most of the day, the experience was quite disappointing and I don't plan on ever returning to this restaurant again, especially since there is many other places in Georgetown to choose from.
If I was management to this restaurant, I would hire servers who had a great deal of experience so the service would be better. I would also hire a bartender who knows how to make drinks and serve them in appropriate glasses, not plastic cups.
Never acknowledged the special event we were there for. Disappointed in that. Sat outside so there was no ambiance. Food is always very good
Good not 5 Star not quite as upscale as we were hoping looking for a 5 star and generously give a 4 star rating.
great seafood and ambiance. we took a table outside with river view. in addition to seafood, must try the caprese salad and mushroom risotto!
Crab dip is still the best! A really nice spread...really like the fried catfish and grits!
We were there for Sunday brunch. The matitre d at first gave us a table right near the buffet with no view and then the server suggested we move which we did. The only seafood on the buffet was salmon, spiced shrimp, and raw oysters. No crab or crab dishes at all. The tomato juice was too watery and had to be sent back. We were never offered a coffee refill. $130 for two people (including tip) was a rip-off. Would not recommend.
Had the swordfish, it was not seasons. Not worth the price and should not be rated as one of the best seafood restaurant in DC.
Food was exceptional! Fresh from the sea straight to the plate. Family had fun on a recommendation from friends here and was not disappointed. Well worth the bill and definitely looking to come back!
Very good service and food, very busy venue reasonable price and good menu choices. Location by the river gives many options for a break from tours of the city. Predominantly a young groups place and for families. You will not be disappointed with this restaurant, wine list for single glass could be longer
great environment, great experience, definitely recommend
The Mahi Mahi fish was totally tough and the taste was off, but the swordfish steak was outstanding. It wasn't that busy when we went, but the wait staff didn't take note of empty water glasses and didn't check in to see if we needed anything. Location is great.
Service was terrible. Overpriced. Won’t be back.
Great food and great service.
The food was overpriced for what it was. Great ambiance!
Wait staff was friendly and attentive. The crab and shrimp dip was great, as were the mussels. Sat outside and it was nice...too bad we couldn't actually see the waterfront from our table, but the fountain they have in front of the restaurant does add nice ambiance.
Awesome wait staff, food and value. So good, we are at Legal Sea Food again today!
Seated outside for my Wife’s Birthday celebration we do every year at Tony & Joe’s. It came a downpour and they left us outside partially covered by an umbrella. Good thing their menu is wax coated as I used it as a shield from the rain off the umbrella for an hour. Manager’s comment to our server was “well they asked to sit out their”..... would anyone ever go back there with that Manager running the place!?!? Sad as it was a tradition for 5 years and my wife and I ate there without our kids all the time in the past.... not now!
This was our second visit in a month. Both times were great! The food is really good. We will go again.
We ate outside on the Potomac, because inside seemed noisy. Food was amazing! Great service, and fun area of town. First night of our vacation here, so we were flying blind, made reservation online. Crab cakes were awesome!
Always a pleasure to dine at Tony and Joe’s!
We had a very special evening there, with a table overlooking the waterfront. Our meal and our service was excellent.
Food was amazing, and service was even better! I made reservation online and requested a quieter table by a window with a view, if possible, since my husband and I were there to celebrate his 60 th birthday. This was our his first time in Washington DC and our first time at this restaurant. Well --- we were SO impressed with the table reserved for us --- it was everything we wanted and more! Thanks for helping to make the day special for my husband!
Father’s Day dinner and everything was excellent especially the crab cake
Father's Day brunch with my hubby. Brunch was fabulous as usual!
Father’s Day dinner. This place is large it’s energetic, it’s very loud. I would’ve rather have eaten outside where it was actually quieter. We sat down and within a five minutes we had 3 servers come over to welcome us and take our order...seemed unorganized. The food was really good though.
Disappointing dinner. Food was very ordinary but prices were very high. Service was slow. Views of the river were unavailable due to a meeting. Furniture in dining room is quite beat-up looking. This is a tourist spot because of its enviable location but without that the restaurant would not make it.
Seafood was outstanding - Chesapeake oysters were fresh and the calamari was quite addictive garnished with banana peppers! Will most definitely return for dinner.
Great place to have dinner before seeing a show. Restaurant is walkable to the Kennedy Center and offers a relaxed waterfront view.
Just awful food. Really barely edible. I had steamed clams that were un-chewable and my daughter had mussels which tasted like low tide. I guess that explains why it was completely empty at 12:30 on a weekday.
This was my first time eating here. Food was very good. The drinks could have been better but overall it was fine. I would dine here again.
The food, service and ambiance were great!! We had dinner on the patio during sunset and sat right near the boardwalk. So much fun! Only small downside would be the people coming in to dock. There were two boats trying to “compete” for loudest music so that made it hard to hear one another. Thankfully the one louder group didn’t stay that long. Overall, I would recommend this place for the views and food! So good!!
Such a sexy vibe to chill outside enjoying the vibe of the Georgetown waterfront
Kids burger was over cooked but salmon was delicious
Great seafood meal! The outside table was great except that the fountain was a little intense and loud. Apparently the flood wall was up so the ambience was different than usual.
The restaurant wasn't what I would expect from Open Table's recommendation.
This was awful,! Restaurant was dirty, noisy, service was below par and my dinner was terrible. I ordered a caprese salad with a piece of grilled chicken. The chicken looked disgusting. And took it off the plate immediately. The salad was even worse. Seemed like they poured a bottle of olive oil on it. Took a few bites and the cheese tasted sour. Pushed it aside and did not eat it. Next morning was sick. How can you ruin a basic Salad? I will never go back again. They did take the salad off my bill without asking which was good.
Very busy place but it was just after GWU graduation ceremony at national mall. Service was good and efficient. Food was good- crab cakes and softshell crab were outstanding.
