We were spending weekend in Washington DC. Used OpenTable and found this restaurant was near and had spaces available with short notice. Perhaps there was a reason for that.
Food was not great, but pleasant. Drinks were good. The service...horrible. We had a very inattentive server, which culminated with us trying to get our check to leave but watching the server serve tables around us, and not bringing the check after we had asked for it. After about 10 minutes, two of my guests got frustrated and left me in the restaurant still waiting for my check. Eventually I had to get the attention of someone else just so I could pay and leave. That really summed up my night at this restaurant.
I usually give a minimum of 15% tip with my norm at 20%. On this occasion I left 10%, something I have not done in many years.
Great as always. Unfortunately the Sea Walls were up due to Hurricane Florence so we missed the beautiful views.
We had a fun time.
Wonderful food, great service and a beautiful short walk to the Kennedy Center.
Service was terrible.
The food was just average, nothing special. The prices definitely reflect the location more than the food. I used the restroom at one point, and the restroom attendant was using her phone; I didn't even realize she was an attendant until she handed the lady after me a paper towel.
Expected more from a DC waterfront restaurant in regards to the food taste. The shareable appetizer of the shrimp and crab dip was better than my actually crabcakes entree & short rib entree my boyfriend ordered. High stars for location, ambiance, & service. Would probably only return for drinks and appetizers.
Good food but a big
The Sunday brunch buffet was very good! Lots of options and food. Fresh seafood, great service. Seating inside wasn't too packed and the live music was soulful and not too loud. The bar scene outside and inside seemed vibrant. The bottomless mimosas were kind of strong. I loved the crab dip. Def. a place to go too but if you are on a diet beware you will WANT everything!
Cesar salad and Cedar plank Salmon was bland. Chicken was the best I ever tasted
The location and food were very good, the service was fair to poor.
We were very happy with the Oysters and the cedar plank salmon was wonderfully prepared! Our server Jose was a pleasure!
Great weather and view so chose patio dining. However their adjacent bar patio allows smoking! We were seated but the cigar smoke was overwhelming. They moved to a distant table away from cigar odor that was by the garbage ( smelled better that the cigar). No apology and all the patio tables are dirty metal wobbly old items, soooooooooo we took the food home and enjoyed it the next day!
Not worth the $100 food cost for the patio experience.
Great view, even better food!
Good prices, excellent food & service. Sat inside with a great view of the harbor. Made the birthday celebration more special.
Great restaurant, waitor Dillon was awesome! Boats docked were a little loud.
Great location on the riverfront but a total tourist trap. Consisten Mediocre food with mediocre service. How can this place have
Food is fantastic - rather pricey though. Seafood is expensive but shouldn’t be quite this $$ for what you get. Great views outside and wonderful quick service though
Food and service were excellent. We ate outside on a warm summer evening. So enjoyable to eat by the water and watch the people and boats going by. It was quite pricey, but worth it for a special night out.
This was our first time coming here and it was AMAZING! The perfect afternoon brunch spot to catch up with friends. The food was delicious and there was no shortage of mimosas. The band was overwhelming and the staff was friendly at the buffet. Can’t wait to come back with my mom!
The food overall was good. The blackens red fish was excellent. The fried Bronzini was ok. Salad was fresh and delightful. Service was impeccable. Very touristy so many of the clientele were dressed a little too casual for a white table cloth restaurant. I was surprised to be seated next a group of 4 young men in very sweaty gym clothes that smelled up the place like a bunch of like dead rats. It says more about Americans lack of social graces and not a reflection on the restaurant. I guess the days of bathing and dressing up for a nice evening out is over.
Great evening with my wife. Food was excellent, service was good and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Tony and Joe’s is a great spot in DC. We had Orange Crush and Moscow Mule cocktails as well as two different types of oysters, a spinach salad, and a jumbo crab lump imperial with mashed potatoes and vegetables. I would recommend all of the above, except for the Moscow Mules, which seemed disproportionate in its ingredients and is served in a plastic cup. The restaurant is nice in that it sits right along the riverfront and you can see a beautiful sunset on a nice day. It’s alsk a great place for patio dining and people watching.
Crab & shrimp dip was okay, the chips were worse -stale-... They brought out more chips to replace the stale ones and they were slightly better. The honey smoked turkey salad was delicious but we had to ask for dressing. Not sure if they serve a salad without dressing or if they forgot to bring it with the meal. Anyhow, the shrimp and grits were good and portions of shrimp were more than expected. That was our first time dining there. We are often at the Kennedy Center for the arts but never ventured this local waterfront area. We will try another restaurant in the area next time.
Great place for Brunch
The meal was good but the service was lacking. I generally leave a 20% but the lack luster service led me to a 10% tip! They just didn't seem to give a damn.
Very pricy for the quality There was a dog as In K9 at the next table being held at table level.
Pros: Food was tasty and well presented. Massively well stocked bar. Large menu.
Cons: Waiter lacked energy. Peel & eat shrimp appetizer should have the shells split.
Food was ok. Service was good. Considering that it was raining all day, the place has a very nice setting by the river.
If we’d realized the touristy area, we probably wouldn’t have eaten here. It’s definitely the flip flop and Bermuda shorts crowd. The food was fine, crab cakes very good as others have said, steam pot was ok to good...some of the items over cooked a bit. Be careful ordering wine...we ordered a specific bottle, and all of a sudden a totally different bottle appeared....”oh, we don’t have that one anymore, this one has replaced it.” I didn’t ask if the price was the same or not, and quickly changed to something else we recognized. Simple mistake, or ?? Our service was good, but I can see where other’s service complaints can be valid...rather disorganized with a lot of staff running around. Too many good restaurants in DC to try...don’t know if I’d go back or not.
Other than the beautiful location, this place doesn’t have much going for it. Our waiter was slow and indifferent and the food was just ok- Except for the side of fries which were amazing! My husband had the salmon salad which was meh and I had the shrimp puttanesca which was beyond bland. Had to hunt down the waiter to bring me my check. Won’t be going back!
The table next to us cursed during our entire meal. Our fish was dry and over cooked. I am still waiting for the 3-Star IPA I ordered.
I was accompanied by family and friends for a birthday celebration and every one was extremely pleased, especially with the food choices and quality as well as the location and friendly and professional service.
We plan to revisit your restaurant on our next trip to Washington, DC.
I notified the restaurant that this was a special occasion via Open Table and requested a window table with a view for 8pm. Upon arrival, I was told that the wait would be 15-20 minutes and that the only table remotely near a window had just ordered dessert, so that would be 30-45 minutes. I sadly took one mid dining room with no view for my "special" occasion. The waiter took almost a half hour to deliver an appetizer requested upon his first and only pass by the table until dessert. He was very curt and literally ran away after taking our entrée order, well after having finished our appetizer. He never took any beverage orders, so all we had was ice water, which he never refilled. The food delivery was equally rushed by the person who threw our plates on the table without care, mixing the dishes, despite us saying he was mistaken. The food itself was ok, but nothing special and WAY overpriced for the tiny unremarkable portion. The waiter swooped down a long time after we finished dinner to throw dessert menus our way and took 15 minutes to return to take a dessert order. Before finishing dessert, he threw the check on the table and said they were closing. I asked when they closed, as it was only 10:25 pm, and he replied we're closing, you can go to the bar! I just checked and the place takes reservations on Saturday evenings until 10pm!!!! So not only was my intention of some small recognition of the special occasion totally ruined, but the whole evening was a terrible experience with horrific shortcomings. I still tipped the brute 15% because I sympathize with server poverty, but he absolutely didn't deserve it! We spent 2.5 hours to be treated extremely poorly and not even be able to share a bottle of wine!
If you are going to Tony & Joe's for seafood only, this is a great place. The reason the experience only received two stars was the drinks were brought to the table in plastic cups and they were definitely watered down where my lady had to complain about it and request a replacement (the replacement wasn't much better). The service initially seemed ok until the young blond lady disappeared for a half hour and I had to walk up to her in order to get her attention. The response she provided was to bring me the check, but I wanted to order espresso and coffee. The coffee was not hot. When I paid the check, she showed up immediately. After anxiously waiting for dinner at Tony and & Joe's for most of the day, the experience was quite disappointing and I don't plan on ever returning to this restaurant again, especially since there is many other places in Georgetown to choose from.
If I was management to this restaurant, I would hire servers who had a great deal of experience so the service would be better. I would also hire a bartender who knows how to make drinks and serve them in appropriate glasses, not plastic cups.
I love Tony and Joe’s. The food and ambiance are terrific and there’s nothing better than the view and cool breeze off the river. Great seafood!
Never acknowledged the special event we were there for. Disappointed in that. Sat outside so there was no ambiance. Food is always very good
Freshest shellfish. Loved the oysters, main lobster. So yummy!
Good not 5 Star not quite as upscale as we were hoping looking for a 5 star and generously give a 4 star rating.
