Waiter put my son’s order in wrong.. we got our food before his because he had to wait for them to make his meal
So - you really go to Tony and Joe's for the view....and not so much for the food. The food was good - just not great. But the view of the Potomac and the people watching from our table was phenomenal. Our service was amazing - the wait staff took great care of us. The lobster was a tiny bit overcooked - a little tough. The raw oysters were very good. The sides - baked potatoes and steam seasonal veggies were boring....I would expect a little more effort put into the sides of a $150 dinner for two. But like I said - go for the view! It's worth the price.
On a rainy, windy night, the sterile architecture of the mall-like surroundings make a dreadful impression, and the nondescript interior of the restaurant did not do much to dispel it. Once seated, however, the pleasant and competent service won us over, along with the very good food. Nothing extraordinary, but everything was tasty and well prepared. We will go back on a warm, sunny day to eat on the terrace overlooking the river.
Food was excellent, service was slow, they forgot our appetizer.
Food was very good and clean tasting flavours except that the Mahi Mahi was overcooked. Highly recommend the top neck clams cooked with garlic and chilli oil.
Sat outside on a beautiful spring day. We had a wonderful waiter. The boats were docked by the restaurant with one couple blaring their music which was fine. The dinner and alcohol prices were very high for the quality of the meal. It was good but not amazing for the cost.
Not the best sea food I’ve had, the service was bad and not helpful at all .
Yeah, yeah, yeah, great view of the river, very friendly service, etc etc...but one really goes to a restaurant for the food, right? Tony and Joe's is always on my itinerary whenever I have guests from out of town...but today's food experience was pretty bad. The 10 steamed top neck clams were awful...rubbery, dry and chewy...both my friend and I had to spit it out. They were either ancient or over-cooked, probably both! Same with the garlic and chilli shrimp...the shrimps were most certainly over-cooked and rubbery. We did return the neck clams, but were also starving and if we'd returned the shrimps too, it might have meant a another 20-min wait because the restaurant was buzzing with people and the waiters were scurrying around taking orders. The clam chowder was good, both the salmon dishes were not bad, but the corn chips accompanying the shrimp and crab dip were absolutely tasteless, salt-less and seemed somewhat stale...
The bill was steep.
As I said earlier, people go to a restaurant mainly for the food, not its ambiance, and going by that yardstick, T&J's is off my list for the moment and I am going to give the 3 other waterfront restaurants a try the next I am there.
Good value. Good variety. We met for a late dinner Friday night and enjoyed the ambiance and had plenty of seafood options during Lent.
The clam chowder is one the best I ever had
I love this place; however this visit the inside fresh fish aroma was not pleasing. Food was still great, service great, view great, smell not so great.
Great atmosphere, food was as expected, service good but not great. All things considered, price was reasonable.
Good location near the waterfront. Food was good, nothing extremely inventive or modern, but it was classic food that was executed well. They were not taking any walk-ins on a Saturday night, but we stepped out and made a reservation via Open Table and within 10 min, walked back in and were seated.
Food was decent. Nothing spectacular but tasty. Service was borderline terrible. Everything was in slow-mo which isn’t good considering there were plenty of empty tables at 8:30 on a Saturday night. Location was cool and lively. Meh
Had great, attentive servers on a busy Friday night
Mediocre food, poor service, overall outside needs big clean.
My husband and I ventured out to Tony & Joes for date night and we had great food, wonderful service, and an overall great dining experience. Thanks so much.
Lovely restaurant overlooking the water with view of the Kennedy Center. Our server, Kalter, was just the right amount of attention, sense of humor, and friendly. Will definitely be back.
First off, let me say that I had a Groupon and it may be that Groupon patrons don't get the top of the shelf food. The service was excellent, from the front desk to the server, whose name I can't remember. The food, however, was very disappointing. I ordered the sea bass, described on the menu as: "Cazuela Baked Sea Bass, $28.00, Chile -wild caught, marinara, capers, basil, green beans, marble potato." I asked for the sauce on the side because I thought it would be an actual piece of fish and it seemed odd to me that it would be served with tomato sauce. It turned out to be small chunks of some white fish browned on the edges and sitting in about 1/8 inch of oil and capers. Maybe it was sea bass, but it was impossible to tell. My husband's fish had a bowl full of sauce over it. It was all so hot that I couldn't eat it for about 10 minutes. This made me think it came from the microwave but the waitress assured me that it was from the broiler. The corn bread was stale and the rolls, which were those clover dinner rolls that should be soft, were hard as a rock on top and just very stale everywhere else. The Caesar Salad was edible, but the leaves of romaine were just whole pieces with a very little bit of dressing and some very tough sticks of Parmesan scattered around. The potatoes were fine. The green beans were great. The Brownie with ice cream was amazing. I'm very glad I didn't pay full price for that dinner.
The service was great! The view and the food together was the perfect pair of beautiful and amazing! Thank you!
The Waiter was rushing us because he had multiple Groupon guests. Once we addressed it with him he slowed down which smoothed out our dining experience.
The food was tasteless. Also rushed. We had Shrimo and grits🙃
We came here for a couples birthday celebration; early Sunday dinner. Food was very good. Prices reasonable, especially given waterfront location. Service from Kalter, our waiter was outstanding. Noise level, especially near the bar area was loud. Fortunately we requested and were given a table in a relatively quiet location near the front window.
The primary downside to the restaurant for us driving from mid-Maryland is that parking is relatively scarce and the local traffic is heavy.
Still, we plan to return later in the year.
We enjoyed a very nice Sunday lunch. The fish was fresh and prepared properly.
Unable to get a table inside, outside was ok though. The meal was fantastic!
We sat in the bar area. The service was not so good as it was crowded and the bartenders were dealing with those sitting at the bar and neglecting the tables. The setting and view was not good from my vantage point. The ambiance was great initially when the music was playing and the food, as usual, was great.
Our server, Mr. Alan was nice and made us enjoy our experience
Food was good / wish there were more sides but went for my boyfriends birthday and he enjoyed. Live band was awesome. We will be back.
My husband and I will be repeat customers. We arrived for Sunday brunch around noon when it was not overly crowded and was very peaceful/quiet. Later it got pretty crowded and louder but overall it was still a great experience and we will be back.
I would’ve given food 5 star but my husband ordered crab cakes and it took almost 30 minutes for server to come back and say they ran out of crab cakes. I everything else was good and the Groupon was an excellent deal.
The service was okay, the food wasn't what I was expecting. I have had better crab cakes for the price. My wife had the shrimp and grits which she said was good. The view of the harbour is really nice. I don't know if I would go back.
80 degrees in DC--cherry blossoms in full bloom--eat outside on the waterfront! Walked off crab cocktail and seafood salad with half a million people at tidal basin. Nice way to spend Saturday with wife and friends!
I really enjoyed the Chesapeake Steam Pot here. It came with large clams, mussels and shrimp in a very nice Old Bay-seasoned tomato broth. There was a generous number of slices of andouille sausage, which add a nice spiciness to the dish. The corn on the cob, rolls and corn bread that were served with it rounded it out perfectly. The service was impeccable. Water glasses were refilled regularly and dirty dishes were removed from the table as soon as we were finished eating what was on them. The Italian lemon cake with raspberry compote completes the meal well, if you have any room left for dessert. The only drawback was a large party at the next table that clearly was enjoying their alcohol and were talking and laughing very loudly, so we couldn't hear each other talk. All in all, Tony and Joe's is a good place to go on the Georgetown waterfront for some seafood that is cooked perfectly and is reasonably priced.
It was a little loud for an upscale restaurant. At times, I felt like I was in a sports bar. With that stated, the food and service were good. The Groupon was a good deal consider the full priced menu.
This is a reliable and wonderful restaurant. We have dined here very often and love the views, especially at sunset on the Potomac, fresh fish, and refined service.
We were thrilled to have the superb and caring Jose again for our server. He is always attentive and caring. He has a lovely personality that even seems to make the tasty food even more memorable.
We will be back soon!
My son had ribs. They were good. Daughter thought the cedar plank salmon was excellent. My sea bass and my wife's dish were just ok. I have been when things were a lot better.
Server did not come back to the table to refill drinks once the food was delivered.
I will say this: Traffic was very bad for us getting to the restaurant and our reservation was waiting for us when we finally got there. That was a plus.
We were in a bit of a hurry due to major traffic problems that day and a following show at Blues Alley, so appreciated the fast and friendly service.
Shrimp and grits were excellent; blackened redfish good (a bit undercooked for my taste).
Our server was great, the food was tasty, and even without window seating the ambiance is very nice! We went at 8:00pm on a Wednesday night, and had quick service. Would love to come back for brunch or outside seating if the weather permits.
I sent my daughter and husband there for a "date-night" as they have small children and don't have many opportunities to go out. They had a wonderful evening: great view of the Kennedy Center and a delicious meal. The crab cakes in particular were especially good! Thank you
Everything was great & the food was fantastic! Thank you so much!
Had a very nice outing. The service was excellent and the waiter was the best.
