Tondee's Tavern Ratings and Reviews
This was my birthday celebration with friends. The staff was very friendly and made my birthday dinner special. They offered me a delicious dessert with a happy birthday song. They were awesome. Also a birthday shot. I was very pleased with my decision to have my birthday dinner here.
I wasn't sure since it was a "TAVERN", do not be afraid. It was a RIOT. The food was local cuisine, done spot on and lots of it. Fun atmosphere, drinks were fairly priced, for a tavern their wine secections rocked. What a great little spot to walk to if you are in the river district. MAKE SURE TO MAKE A RESERVATION, it is a hot spot.
I was not satisfied with the food I received. I visited for the first time during restaurant week and ordered stuff flounder and it was overcooked. The broccoli was very bland and I ordered a crab cake and it was very salty!! My service was good and the drinks were ok but I was very disappointed with my food and didn't feel it was worth the money I spent.
To start off with we made reservations and we ended up showing up an hour early. So when I asked the host if we could go ahead and sit they said NO and there was several empty tables. Then all of sudden they changed there mind and seat us in the basement. So we get pass the hurdle. Our waiter finally showed up we ordered drinks 30 mins later they finally showed after started questioning about where the drinks were at. Then our food finally showed an Hour after we ordered.
The SERVICE was terrible , slow and constantly making excuses for the bar or kitchen.
The food was good but I want be back do to the service.
This was a disappointing experience. Although the food was good, we wait 45 minutes to receive it. The venue wasn't overly crowded, and we watched another table of six walk out due to slow service.
The hostess was great. She was friendly, helpful and took our drink order. The waitress was absent most of the time. To me it falls on management. There was no one walks the floor to see if patrons were being taken care of. I left an empty beer glass at the edge of the table waiting to order another. After 25 minutes of waiting, I wouldn't have accepted a free one at that point.
They lost additional drink revenue and dessert order due to not wanting to deal with another round of waiting.
It's really too bad, because the food we had was very good. I saw other wait staff servicing tables, and perhaps too much is placed on one waitress, however, that one bad server can cause lots of damage.
It is definitely a tavern. You can see the age and style of the restaurant when you walk in and the bar looked great. I ordered the Low Country Boil which was great. For desert they have the cheesecake market. Almost every flavor imaginable and served in a mason jar, I had the New York style cheesecake and it was amazing.
This was our meeting place for a ghost tour, so we figured we would just have dinner there so as not to be late for the tour & we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. I had an ala-vodka pasta dish & it was the best I have ever had. Their specialty drinks were reasonably priced & yummy & they even threw in a free one, so guess you could say they were very accommodating (and great servers)! Will definitely go back next time we are in Savannah!
Well, we really liked our past experience at Tondees especially the salmon and crab sandwiches; unfortunately the menu has changed and these items are no longer available! The price is now not really worth the food portion(s) however, the waiters are phenomenal!! This time Akil served us and he is very attentive and conscious over his tables!! He gets 5 stars from us! Maybe Tondees would reconsider some of its menu choices in the near future!
In their defense, it was Savannah restaurant week, so maybe the demand was overwhelming, however...
The restaurant was attractive upstairs, but we were seated in a claustrophobic basement. Our server greeted us with "we are slammed so I hope you have your patience hats on". Our reservation was for 6:30, early in the night, but two of the items on the fixe prix menu were unavailable which we were not informed of until two members of our party tried to order them. My husband was brought the wrong beer and was not brought his dessert at all. Wait staff were continually wandering around holding food asking if it was ours; it was as if they forgot how to use table numbers. The food was mostly good, though unexceptional.
I figured a restaurant on Bay Street would be geared for the tourists so perhaps this restaurant is banking on not having to serve the save patron more than once. It certainly seemed to be the case.
The location and ambiance was great, food was very good once we got service. We were there 20 minutes at our table before someone came after we flagged the manager down and he sent someone to take our order. Service after that was very attentive. Prices were reasonable. Overall, don't hold that one incident against them since otherwise service and food was good.
It was Jan 2 so there was no crowd.
Only a few diners.
Waiter was engaging and we ordered what he recommended.
The food was delicious. I had a combo of steak filets and ribs. Both were perfect cooked. Melt in your mouth good.
My wife had a pasta and shrimp dish that was excellent also.
Dessert was a local specialty of cheese cake in a short ball jar. Very good too.
Great food at a very reasonable price.
We would return there and will recommend it.
