Tom's Urban - Denver Ratings and Reviews
Our service was horrible and disappointing. We had 6:15pm dinner reservations, arrived 10 minutes early and didn't receive our dinner items until 7:10pm. our waiter was constantly distracted, barely cleared our appetizer dishes and rung up our checks incorrectly. The Fig, 3 Cheese and Bacon sandwich sadly was too sweet. The Philly Cheeseteak and the Pulled sport sandwiches were good though, as were the lemon rosemary tator tots.
I found the meal very mediocre. That's being nice. My margarita was the worst I've ever encountered (and there is no excuse for that) Noise from the music was pretty unbearable especially if you sit in balcony. I set my expectations pretty low, since these are the Smashburger folks... so I was not surprised. Server seemed nice. I'd avoid this place unless you are in your 20's and this is what you expect from a restaurant on Larimer.
The location is great and since we go to Comedy Works on a routine basis I see this place being a routine pre-comedy show location for us. The staff was very attentive and the food was amazing! The salad was huge, the cheesesteak was wonderful, and the tacos were delicious. The only thing I will say is it was extremely loud and trying to talk over dinner left us all a bit hoarse.
We went to Tom's to meet some friends to watch the Bronco game. Service was excellent, food was great, too bad we lost the game. The only complaint I had was that they wouldn't put the game on their 4 screen set-up, the server said they "could not" put it on there. But it didn't ruin the experience.
We have been to Tom’s Urban a few time before or after catching a show at the DCPA and have always been very pleased. This time not so much. We went for the frog legs, as in went specifically so I could get the frog legs..It has been years since I have had good frog legs. We ordered and everything was fine. The frog legs though were really not good. Not bad enough to send back or anything, just not good. Really over cooked and dry with very little flavor. I ate less than half and was done.
When we got our check I noticed it said “chicken” instead of “frog legs”. I asked about it and the waitress apologized noting I had ordered the frog legs and she accidentally put in for chicken. Me: Ya, I thought something seemed off which is why I didn’t eat much, but I just thought it was really bad frogs legs”. Our waitress basically just said I should have said something and left it at that. Have to admit it was rather a put off. I ended up paying $16 or so for over fried chicken I didn’t order. I would have thought she would have made up for it by offering to at least comp one of the appetizers or something.
On the other hand my husband’s burger was great and the Brussels sprout appetizer was amazing. The rest of it left me feeling kind of like I got screwed though.
My wife and I had stayed downtown for our anniversary and were just looking to chill out on a Sunday morning. Tom's Urban was the perfect spot and I got the Spicy Chicken and Cornbread Pancakes. They were phenomenal and hit the spot. If anything I was more full than I wanted to be but we were going to walk around that morning so I had more than enough fuel to start the day :).
The food was very good with vary large portions. The atmosphere is very cool. It's like an upscale sports bar. I tried a mojito that was on their happy hour menu. Unfortunately it was the worst mojita I have ever tried. All you could taste was the seltzer water, nothing else. The service was a little slow. All in all I would recommend trying this restaurant.
We found Tom's Urban Spoon in Vegas and loved it! So my birthday we went for dinnerware in Denver. It was an great experience and wonderful food. The whole family loved it. We were even large for our reservation due to Denver traffic and the still honored it and sat us right when we arrived.we will definitely go back, especially to try the homemade Pop Tarts!
Had breakfast there at 9am on a Wed. That's late for breakfast, admittedly. But it was completely empty - we were the only people there. And our host/server didn't seem to interested in helping us. He wasn't rude - just indifferent towards us, and he didn't seem knowledgeable of the menu offerings. It seems like he could/should have been more attentive to and appreciative of his only customers at the time.
Most of the table was disappointed with their meal. My dad had the lobster roll after, and was let down by it especially after paying 23 bucks for it. It was over salted and not worth the money paid for it. My boyfriend was not happy with the Hot Tom, and this was the first time he ever didn't finish a meal. My tacos were good until I got to the lobster and shrimp one, and that one was really salty. This was the restaurant I recommended because I had been there before. Won't be going back.
I took my three girls here before the Frozen theater performance thinking it would be 'special' but less formal than some other places on Rioja. My girls are 13, 11 and 8 so they are capable of handling most restaurants. When we sat down, the benches were completely torn up (think dive bar) so I thought, ok.... more casual than expected, which is fine unless you want to charge $15 for 3 mini tacos. Out total bill w/tip was $107 for four people w/2 kids eating off kid menu. Kind of pricey for kid burger, grilled cheese, burrito and tacos. And honestly if it was spectacular in any way, I might not have minded as much but it was average at best. I walked away thinking it was really poor value. Super loud too. Won't be back. Will go to Russell's or Osteria Marcos or really any other place on Larimer.
Sat on the patio for dinner, and we were the only table out there. It was nice, but it felt like we were forgotten. Ordered the chicken potstickers based on a recommendation from the waitress. They were average. My husband and I both got the tacos which were decent.
Overall, Tom's Urban is a delight. Good food with a welcoming atmosphere. The issues we had were with one particular staff member. Our food came out cold, the coffee was never refilled, and the dishes, cups, and silverware were dirty. The biggest problem is that the staff was no where to be found to address any issues.
We had early reservations prior to a show so it was quiet even though all the tables were full. Food was great with a nice selection of good things. It was not fancy which I liked. The desserts were wonderful. We had the Smores and the cheesecake. One of us had mac and lobster and the other 3 of us shared a full rack of ribs plus we ordered more sides. I would return.
Out of all 7 of our main dishes plus a couple of appetizers, it was all exceptional. Shrimp and Grits and the Fried Chicken were my favorites. Great food. Service was good, nothing special, but efficient and friendly. Comfortable seating, not too noisy. Would highly recommend and I'll be back myself!
