Tom's Oyster Bar Royal Oak
Took my boyfriend for sweetest day, it was his first time there and he loved it! I’ve been several times and the food and drinks are always great, as well as the service! Great place for a date night
I always come here and last night 10-12-2021 I came to the restaurant and they didn’t have my reservation and I asked for the patio. The host (a male host) was not friendly at all and giving me this attitude just cause I ask if me and my friend is can sit at the patio. So disappointing.
I got the New England lobster roll sandwich and I was not satisfied. There was hardly any lobster in it and I ate it all in just a few bites. I basically paid $17 for bread and fries. I was super excited to try their lobster roll because I’ve heard/read great things but was ultimately disappointed in it. Service was great though.
Our server was fabulous
Our server was fabulous! Super attentive and the food/drinks were amazing as always.
The oysters here are top notch!
Awesome service. Relaxed and comfortable outdoor table. We will be back
Great food and great price
The service was great, but the main entree was not the best.
The food is ok, not great and not great for the price. Also, while we were eating an employee started to scrub the freezer door (I think freezer door, a door silver steel door by bar) He had a bucket and a brush and was scrubbing the door just feet from our table. That was icky.
2 salads were just ok. The greens we a bit tough.. more traditional lettuce in the mix would be nice
In our group we had calamari , lobster tails dinner, clam chowder, steak and lobster, burger, and various cocktails. It was delicious and our server was very friendly and professional and didn’t rush us, which I appreciate.
Our server Josh was excellent, the food not so much. My boyfriend and I started with the dynamite shrimp and it was pretty good but could have used some more sauce. Most of the shrimp didn’t have anything on them at all except the breading. Our entree was when things really went down hill. We planned on splitting the lobster and seafood paella then ordering another entree to share after we finished that. The paella wasn’t paella at all, think of minute rice soaked in an excessive amount of butter. The bottom of our plates was literally a pool of butter, I had to hold my fork over the plate for a minute to let the butter drain off the rice before taking a bite. All of the seafood was extremely over cooked and rubbery (I had to use a knife to cut the lobster tail and even then it was still hard to get through). We ended up getting our check and going to finish our dinner at another restaurant nearby. Over all way over priced for the quality of the food.
Disappointing quality seafood considering the price
Brandon was great! Food was amazing. Will be back soon.
My mother and i ordered the same margarita drink but came out different one was gross and the other was good. When asked we were told that 2 different bartenders made the drink and one drink was missing an ingredient thats why the drinks looked/tasted different. The soup was good but not hot. I expected this place to have decent serving sizes, they were so tiny. We ordered oysters, soup, and an entree, but still left hungry. I can point out something wrong with every dish. My husband’s jambalaya was so skimpy you can see the bottom of the dish!! My paella lacked salt and barley any rice. So was my mothers. My fathers pasta was not cooked all the way it was chewy. Once we left the restaurant my husband got sick. Overall do not recommend! There are better seafood restaurants out there.
I was disappointed. I've been here many times and I always loved it. The overall food quality and service was subpare. The best part were the oysters. They were delicious.
My husband and I both ordered the lobster tails, and switched out the red skin potatoes for mashed potatoes. The potatoes were barely lukewarm. They must have been sitting for a while.
The lobster bisque soup was also barely lukewarm. Now making you wonder how fresh the food is there.
Our waiter, while not bad, was really slow. I saw the others moving about very quickly. And he just seemed like he was annoyed to be there. Sure, it's work. But it's not a pleasant experience when you're waiter is in a mood.
I also spoke with someone mentioning there was no toilet paper in the women's bathroom. I waited a bit, and nothing was done. There were 2 employees standing around doing nothing during this time frame. So I used extra napkins that were on our table.
I will give it one more try. But otherwise, this isnt worth it spending $200 for a nice dinner.
I had specifically requested the table in the window, and to our dismay it was occupied upon our arrival. We opted to sit at the bar instead. So glad we did! Ryan the bartender was fantastic! We’ve been going to Tom’s for over 20 years and miss Frank. Ryan the is an excellent replacement- you won’t be disappointed!
Had a great meal. When we checked in, we were told there was a special dessert since it was a birthday. That never happened. I felt uncomfortable asking. The food was great. Our service was great. A nice dining experience!!
I had a fantastic experience. My boyfriend and I ate at the bar. The bartender’s customer service was outstanding. He made recommendations that were the best! He interacted with everyone. It was an awesome experience.
Over priced but good quality
Fun atmosphere, good selection of food items. Our server John was great! We had a nice table by the front window which was great for both people watching and conversing with friends.
Took a chance on Tom's Oyster Bar, not good at all. Food was average at best. Royal Oak is a young bar scene so if you are looking for quality food and value go some where else. Place was out of several beers, several items on menu, bar service was so slow and place was not even busy. Burger, beer, fries maybe. Quality meal forget it.
Server was new but put forth great effort.
The calamari appetizer was nice but didn’t seem ample - there were 3 of us so we each had 2 strips. The kale salad was okay. The wagyu steaks that came with the surf and turf (ordered 2) came well done ( sliced hard when the server asked us to check) instead of medium well. But they did replace both. The replacements were smaller.
Love their oyster shot… the food was good. Service was slow due to the current situation. The waiter was good.
Love coming here
Everything is so fresh and delicious. Loved the outside seating. Overall great experience.
Patio is really nice and food is pretty good.
Great drinks!! Food amd service was exceptional!! Will visit again
A small but local venue with excellent seafood and great service.
I was very excited to try Toms, but the overall experience was disappointing. The peel and eat shrimp was mediocre at best, and the cocktails were below average. I was very excited to drop $26 on the app sampler, but they were out of the crab cakes, and everything else on it was average at best. I would be somewhat satisfied if this was at a chain restaurant or a random place in a subprime location, but for main st in royal oak it was pretty disappointing.
Wonderful options! Great drink list
Great food, excellent service..a little noisy outside, but to be expected!
AlwAys a good time! Sat outside after a rain storm! Fun! Food was good, our server was attentive and friendly! Still miss the voodoo shrimp from years ago! Bring it back, please!
The meal was very good, and the restaurant was a little cold that day.
The waiter was drunk and out of it so that was a very weird and uncomfortable encounter . The waiter ended up getting told to go home and we got a new waiter. Table was extremely wobbly and there wasn’t much seating available. Food was okay . Needs much more flavor and appetizers should be fresh and hot . Please offer vegan Mayo for the lobsteroll!
The oysters were wxw
Can’t complain about the service during the unemployment debacle. But you CAN complain about the food and dirty wine glasses they served me.
Amazing food and drinks!!
