Burger was good. Cheese ball appks were really good. Service poor-ran out of drinks throughout the meal-and place was not even busy. Desert-they should have been "chopped". Waitress recommended the lemon cake-dry-no flavor-probably was frozen. For a $60 lunch for 2 people-this place will not make it to the second round-they have been chopped-maybe they need to call restuarant impossible.
Fun hangout and watch the game spot. Patio is great.
I really enjoyed the lovely outdoor seating area at Tommy Nevis for my late afternoon gathering with friends! The servers were friendly and attentive. I had the flatbread with smoked salmon and it was quite delicious.
Fine spinach sald. soggy fried food.
Our group was there for a "Pre-Mikado turns 50" reunion. We were seated on time and had a great time. The problem was the service--they forgot us way over in a corner (great spot for us for our reunion) only the food did not come at all for one table and was very slow for our table. My food (the Irish Stew) was a huge portion with lots of side vegetables and was piping hot and excellent. The linen napkins were a very nice surprise with all that gravy. All had a great time and they left us alone for our 4 hours of catching up (the good side) but the service originally was the weak point. We were literally sharing food with the poor table that did not get any for 45 minutes!
Tommy Nevins did a great job of accomodating our group after it was discovered they had no record of the confirmed reservation I made through OpenTable. We had a great time and I learned that a phone call is better than online to make a reservation.
The stilton burger was excellent, buffalo wrap was so-so. We were there at early lunch, only a handful of tables occupied. The waitress was very attentive at first but once the food came she disappeared. My buttered potatoes had no butter and there was no waitress to get me any. Had to wait about 10 minutes after the meal to get the check. Fortunately I had exact change and was able to just leave with payment on the table. Overall, disappointing. There are a lot of better Irish pubs out there.
Great comfort food! Delicious pub food, great beer and bar list. Have never been disappointed with a meal here. Try the Irish stew and burgers are awesome.
Everyone in our party of 4 was pleased with the food, the venue and the service. Lots of comfort food choices. We would go back.
Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and efficient. The food was well-prepared and tasty. The Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert was perfectly delicious and a bargain at $2.75 per serving.
I will give this place the benefit of having an off night, but our service was terrible. Once we were seated, we had to wait 10 minutes before I finally flagged a waiter down because none stopped by. It also took several requests for water until we finally received our pitcher. Once we received our meal, I had to ask the bus boy for hot sauce because our waiter was MIA again. Overall, the prices are reasonable and the food is decent. The service is sadly what soured me this pub.
Crowded, noisy, table too small to accomodate plates. Service staff tried to be friendly, happy and helpful, but were not very successful. Food was OK, but not great. Portions were huge. Menu in house did not have all the items that were on the inter-net menu. Located near NU campus, so was a great place for the college students and staff, but not so appealing for non-NU folks.
My group from NU had a great time. No complaints!
Tommy Nevin was great surprise offering authentic as well as faux Irish food. The selection of Irish and Scotch whiskies was fabulous as was the choice of draughts and bottled beers. Prices are really a value. Definitely a place to visit again!
great outdoor beer garden!! Perfect on a summer day!
We sat out side and the food was very good. I think our server was new, he kept forgetting to bring us water and other things we needed like mustard and ketchup, he was very nice though and we were not in a hurry.
Great outdoor patio for the summer. Good menu with some intersting twists on burgers, salads and sandwiches.
Overall, this restaurant is okay but not great. It's location near Northwestern University is what made us choose it in the first place. The shepherd's pie was a bit salty for my taste, and my husband said his corned beef seemed more like roast beef. Service was friendly but only adequate; I had to ask for an ice tea refill. On the plus side, we were there early enough on a Saturday evening that the noise level was moderate and we could have a decent conversation. If we are in the neighborhood again, then we might give Tommy Nivens another try, but we wouldn't go out of our way to do so.
Good spot for some beers and sports in Evanston. Awesome patio seating!
while this restaurant offers a gluten-free menu, we found that some of the items on the menu were not in fact gluten-free, but contained wheat/gluten orzo. The wait staff and manager promised to make things right for us, but replaced the mistake with a 2nd item off the gluten-free menu, which also contained orzo. When they said they'd fixed this by preparing yet a 3rd plate for us, we found it also had traces of orzo on it. Clearly, they want to be seen as friendly to the GF crowd, but they do not know how to run a GF kitchen and serve GF food. The dining experience for the entire party was poor, due to their incompetence.
