Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar - Palm Desert Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I have been to multiple Tommy Bahama restaurants and love them. This one in Palm Desert was excellent. I had the salmon special which was delicious and my husband had the fish & chips which also was delicious. Pina Colada cake is always our favorite dessert! Yummy!
We arrived on time and escorted to the most beautiful outdoor table. Our server Kimberly was there within minutes to help us navigate the menu of drinks. We then took our time and selected several items for tasting. The food was wonderful. The best blue crab on the West Coast. Kimberly was excellent. Checked on us regularly and kept us fed and full of drinks. We had a great time. We go at least 2 times a year, and we have never been disappointed.
The food just wasn’t that good. The people are very nice. We entered and it had a very fishy smell. We had the dip duo to start. The chips were tasteless and stale the guacamole was brown and looked like it was scooped a few hours before. The pub cheese had a crusty outside. Then we had the tuna tacos. The tuna just wasn’t that good. The fish tacos weren’t bad but nobody loved their food. They should take more pride in serving FRESH ingredients
I confess to being a big Tommy Bahama fan. Food is excellent, coconut shrimp is legendary. Food is all round excellent be it salad, fish or meat. My only grumble, there are so few of these restaurants around.
The Palm Desert location has excellent parking behind and easy access to the high end El Paseo shops. Out side is fine in winter but a little too hot in summer
We were 3 friends meeting for lunch. I made a reservation, which was good, as the restaurant was quite busy. We all 3 ordered the Chicken & Mango salad. It was underwhelming. The chicken was spotty - mine was great; one friend's was not cooked properly; the other friend's was tough and chewy. The mango was hard and lacked flavor. The salad just didn't seem to be the same as it had been in the past when I had ordered it and enjoyed it. We all agreed we wouldn't be ordering it again. The service was excellent and our waiter was nice, friendly and very attentive. No problems there.
The restaurant has an extensive menu with plenty of options (gluten-free, vegetarian). The vegetable tacos were outstanding. Bread was hot and fresh, with an excellent cinnamon-infused butter. Wine was very pricey - $40 for two glasses of Chardonnay, so check menu prices rather than relying on waitstaff recommendations! Our appetizers didn’t arrive and waiter apologized profusely and comp’d our desserts, which were excellent.
Went for the grilled artichoke. Didn't have any. We're told they were unable to get any until spring. Really? They should ask Cliffhouse where they get their's as they always have them. Got fabulous ones at our local grocery store last week. I guess Tommy B's needs a better supplier.
Dining seems limited in Palm Desert and this was good and reliable. We enjoyed outside dinner under the heater and staff was helpful and friendly and didn’t just recommend the most expensive items. Enjoyed macadamia crusted snapper and ahi tuna kale salad. Both very nicely prepared and we are every bite
Things started off well, but when a table of 12 was seated next to us, the server became over-whelmed. We had been there a few weeks before and the delays in service on this visit caused us an additional hour for the meal. We were so delayed that we had to cancel drinks that we had ordered and were still not to us 20 minutes later. The food was good and the server was pleasant - the live music helped pass the time.
Food is always good. Great mixed drinks. But this time, despite having a reservation for dinner, we were seated in the large, open area to the left of the bar. The acoustics and noise level were painful, even though it was less than half full. Absolutely unacceptable! We asked to be moved outside. No tables. Eventually, the host offered us the private room to the left. He did, however, state that plans were underway to add acoustical treatment to that room. We'll see, because most restaurants are either ignorant on this issue or don't give a damn. Until then, avoid seating inside, unless very few tables are occupied.
Our service was adequate at best. 3 people 2 drinks made incorrectly. Those were reordered and it took a longer than usual time to serve. They were served when we were given our bread and our entrees came within minutes. No time to converse with my family over a cocktail. Menus remained on our table even after I asked for them to be removed. We asked for additional au jus. Came with our box doggy bag. The server did give us a complimentary desert. We did leave a tip. Probably should not have. Our last dining experience at your restaurant was perfect; that’s why I brought my fsmily. The service actually dampened what should have been a fun & enjoyable evening.
