Tommy Bahama Laguna Beach Bar & Grill Ratings and Reviews
Tommy Bahamas is one of my favorite restaurants in Laguna Beach. The service is always awesome and the food consistently yummy. ... and they have the best Happy Hour in town! The restaurant can get a little loud when the bar is hopping and the music is booming... so not the best place for an intimate date night. Come for the food, bar scene and local vibe.
If you are looking for a date night with that special someone, this restaurant does not provide intimate seating. Tables are about 12 inches apart. It is noisy, making conversation difficult at best. If you're looking for a happening place with a great bar and music, then this would be your place to go.
My husband and I went to Tommy Bahamas in Laguna Beach for its location convenience and then were happily surprised by the delicious fresh food, good service and ambience. Happy Hour "small plate" tastings included the coconut shrimp and parmesan crusted goat cheese. Both were yummy. With only 3 shrimp for $8.00, we found the goat cheese a much better value. But, the best part of Happy Hour was the 1/2 price for bottles of wine. Good deal! We shared that and a tasty salad which the kitchen split for us (plenty for 2 to share) and upon request, a basket of bread for the table. As always, we like to try the specials at restaurants. We were not sure we would like the butter/caper sauce that the halibut special was cooked with. To our surprise and delight, our server brought us a sample of the sauce. After tasting it, we knew we would enjoy the special. . . and we did! It was served with fresh green beans, farro and roasted tomatoes. Again, plenty for us to share, which we did at the table. Leaving room for dessert, we ordered the Key Lime Pie. One of the best we ever had!! Also enjoyed the low-key guitar music and singer during our dining. A very good experience overall.
We had the very best service and arrived in time for happy hour (ends at 6:00 pm). The fresh tuna tacos 2@$6 were small but delicious. Would definitely go back for them. The sliders 2@$6 were well-done. Beer, wine, and cocktails (good cocktails) were half priced. Reservations are a must during happy hour unless you wish to sit at the bar if seats are available.
Service was efficient and the server was friendly. The baby back ribs were very tender with a tasty glaze. Filet mignon was outstanding. Much better than most higher end steak houses. The noise level was on the moderate to loud side. There was a folk singer playing during dinner that added a nice touch. We will be returning.
We came for Father's Day after recently visiting the location on the Big Island. We thought it would be a similar vibe. This location is extremely small and the focus is on the bar rather than the food service. I was disappointed when we arrived 10 mins early for our 5 pm reservation with 2 kids in tow and the hostess offered us a high top bar table for dinner with plenty of tables open. She stated that they were very busy and asked if I made a reservation online. I told her I made a reservation on Open Table but never before had a restaurant suggest that we would get a lesser table because I booked online. I made the reservation online about 4 days in advance.
The hostess "rearranged things" so we could sit at dining table away from the bar right in front of the singer. The service was decent, they were very busy.
Music good but Wat too loud!!!!! Had table for 4 away from singer and we had to yell at each other. We didn't order coffee desert because of noise. Such a small place and it needs to be toned down. Kind of ruined evening and we eat at TB a lot.
Comfortable decor and overhead music. Solo guitarist made it difficult to have a conversation. Much more pleasant when he was on break. Food was average, prices were relatively high. Filet Mignon was very petite. Would not have ordered if size was disclosed. Waitress was very good cordial and pleasant.
