Tommy Bahama Island Grille - Newport Beach Ratings and Reviews
Nathan was really a great server; but the restaurant is too loud for my taste. Food was above average but my friend and I each had a different soup and neither of us enjoyed our soup. We loved the filet mignon flatbread and our sandwiches and dessert were excellent. No on the soup; no on the noise level - the rest was great!
I love this place as I drive a long distance to dine with them on purpose. Lump crab cakes were out of this world. I had issue with the Halibut special, overcooked, but they took care of it immediately as well as taking it off my bill. Service was consistent. The bar was busy being a Thursday night with musician. I would STRONGLY recommend this location to anyone - individual and/or family gathering as the food is made with quality ingredients, service is professional and you leave a Happy Camper!!
We are from out of town, but come here whenever we get to Orange County which is about 3 or 4 times a year. The food is always good, the service is outstanding, and its just a very comfortable place to spend an hour or two with friends or family. It is one of our go to places for a nice casual evening.
The food was very good( the fried fish in particular)
The problem was the terrible service; they seemed to be under staffed
We waited close to an hour for the food, the salad came at the same time as the main course but the food did come hot and well prepared
The waiter seemed to be rather inexperienced
However it is a good neighborhood restaurant and in the past it has performed better
The Key Lime pie was delicious, tangy and the perfect amount of sweetness.
I am sorry to add The food is just so so. To much breading on the fish, the sauces were bland and overly greasy, I will only go back for the Key Lime pie. Sorry, but I was very disappointed in the food.
Headed out to Newport to do some shopping and cruise PCH, and I had to have Tommy B's coconut shrimp. I like to pair them with a couple of their mai tais and I'm pretty close to heaven.
The ambiance is super casual and relaxed, of course. There is live music on the weekends, which my GF loves. It's always nice to relax after a hard day of shopping, and this place fits the bill.
This is one of our favorite restaurants but this last visit was disappointing. My son’s chicken sandwich was overcooked and dry, my ribeye steak $36 was gristley and tough. My daughter’s steak salad was delicious as usual. The coconut shrimp appetizer was very good as was the crab bisque. The service was spotty. When I realized I need to to return my steak it took the waitress almost 10 minutes notice our table.
I would still return to Tommy Bahamas in Newport Beach but you have to know the right items to order. A good restaurant should maintain the high-quality regardless of the entrée.
As first-timers to Tommy Bahama Island Grille we were looking forward to great food and service and weren't disappointed on either score. The only downside we experienced was the noise level in the restaurant--we practically had to shout just to carry on a normal conversation. Perhaps the owners/management could look into sound dampening throughout the entire restaurant; otherwise, our advice is to get an outdoor table.
