Tombo Grille Ratings and Reviews
Great food and excellent service! We were a business duo from out of town and we're absolutely overwhelmed with excitement for this great find. Our waiter Ryan, has a brother in the Army, was absolutely amazing! The exciting atmosphere made the food taste even better. The owner took time to walk around and greet everyone. It's one of the best kept secrets of Columbia and the highlight of the trip.
Age here with a group of 8. Have eaten at Tombo Grill numerous times, this wasn't one of the best, but still good. The food was a little slow arriving after we ordered and some of our food was warmer than others. The service was spot on, otherwise. Friendly staff and good, sometimes great, food. Will definitely return again and again.
Last evening, Saturday, Aug. 19th, my wife and I dined at your establishment primarily to listen to our friends who provided the music and entertainment for the evening. We had heard many wonderful comments regarding your restaurant and had never had the opportunity to experience it ourselves until last evening. From a holistic perspective let me say the quality and flavor of our dinners was fabulous, just as we had been told. However, we did experience an unfortunate situation that I would like to share in hopes another patron experiencing a similar fate will not be subjected to our unpleasantness.
Shortly upon receiving our dinners my wife noticed a very long, single black hair that surrounded the perimeter of my plate and was anchored under my food. We brought it to the attention of our waitress and she was very apologetic and immediately scampered away to the kitchen with my plate. While my dinner was being re-prepared my wife spent the next 15 or 20 minutes eating alone. My dinner did arrive, however, my wife was almost finished by then and she takes her time eating.
I realize unfortunate situations happen and that is exactly what this was - no one’s fault. However, I’m very, very disappointed that Tombo Grille did not offer any form of compensation for our inconvenience. Please understand that I was not expecting a free meal. I was, however, expecting to be offered some compensation such as a reduced bill, a complimentary dessert or perhaps a complimentary drink. I receive nothing other than the acknowledgement of how unfortunate it was and the apology. I do not believe it was my responsibility to have requested such compensation from a classy establishment such as Tombo Grille. A respectable restaurant would have offered.
It will be a long, long time before we choose to return based on this experience and if asked we’ll share what took place with others choosing to dine at Tombo Grille.
Tombo is my neighborhood go-to and one of my all-around favorites. The flawless service has never disappointed . The menu stays about the same, but nightly specials keep it interesting enough. As far as I'm concerned, the predictability of regular menu items is forgiven because it's also predictably good every time. Ambiance is nice. Local artists' work throughout contribute a lot; the lightning is nice, too.
Last time I was there, they were busier than I'd ever seen--full house. Good thing I had a reservation through Open Table. Noise level was higher than usual, but not enough to be distracting or annoying. To my amazement, the service didn't suffer in the least for the busy full house situation. And my friend and I agreed the creme brûlée was a delicious way to top off the evening.
My friend and I went to Tombo's on a recommendation from my daughter, the food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented and the wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Their menu "specials" vary (not sure if monthly or wkly) but we are looking forward to returning for a nice evening. The band is a bit loud at times but the music is great varied and from the 70's. It was alot of fun.
My wife and I went for a date night:
1- great service and wait staff who were very friendly and inviting
2. Entrees and appetizer was bland adding salt couldn't even save it. Ended up throwing a majority of it away. But presentation wise the plates looked superb.
3. We most likely will not be returning even though the staff and food "presentation" was great. As the star should be the taste of the food.
4. The price is a bit high as well for the proportions
The food was excellent and the Monday night live band, Flat OutStrangers, that played Gypsy Swing music was superb. You can't beat the $9.00 burger and beer special with live music on Monday nights. The rest of the menu was creative and interesting. The fried Brussels Sprouts and fried chicken livers on the small plates were absolutely delicious.
