Tomatoes Ratings and Reviews
Went with the Chilean Sea Bass and it did not disappoint! I started with the Miso Soup - I thought it would have been better since Tomatoes has a variety of Japanese fare...it was just "ok". Dessert was delish. Our server was friendly and attentive. Staff kept our tables clear of dishes as we finished each course. We will be back!
The food was impeccable! Wife and I had the Chilean Sea Bass. Omg! That's all I need to say! Period! You will not be disappointed. Our server Kate made our night! Explained the menu, spent time with us, and made us feel special throughout the evening. A contagious personality and great sense of humor was warmly welcomed. Bravo to Kate and Tomatoes for making our night!
My girlfriend and I had a poor dining experience here on New Years Eve.
1) no mention of set menu on Open Table during reservation process or through subsequent emails
2) overpriced, uninspired, fixed price menu
3) long waits for drink orders, refills, and in between each course service
4) the band was very loud and it sounded like an instrument or speaker was unplugged- we’re young but it was impossible to talk to the person across from you
5) the man next to us, and his date, put on a show of PDA, drink spilling, and inappropriate behavior
6) our food was just plain bad; our steak knives could not cut through veal or a New York strip, nothing had any flavor, and we had to sit with it for 15 minute before anyone came to ask how it was.
This place has a great reputation and we were prepared to have an excellent experience. It was a serious disappointment on a rare night out.
Given that it was New year's Eve, we had a fixed menu to choose from. There was sufficient variety and we all enjoyed the meal. Wine selection was very reasonable and they also had a higher priced wine selection available by request, if you did not see anything that appealed to you on the regular wine list. Service was excellent. Been here before and have always had a great meal in a fun atmosphere.
When I looked Tomatoes up on Open Table it did not say that they were having a special menu for New Year's Eve. That was the reason we chose this restaurant and when we got there, they had a set menu which didn't have many entree choices that we wanted and was very expensive. My steak was not cooked to my request, was hard to cut because they have terrible steak knives and was fatty. My wife 's entree was something she never orders out and she didn't like it. We were disappointed that they didn't advertise the special menu on Open Table.
A great night with great service and great food! Went out on New Year's Eve which is usually not the best time to evaluate a restaurant. Upon arrival for our 6:15 reservation, out table was immediately available and we were offered to be seated or we could go to the bar and be seated in a bit, our choice. Very nice. Our server, Veronica, was very friendly, fun, and informative about the food choices and provided great service. The food was amazing from our appetizers to the salads to the entrees. We were too full to eat dessert, but we ordered it to take home and have later that night. Veronica mentioned that the desserts were homemade and they were delicious, especially the caramel pear pecan cheesecake. All in all it was a great experience. We have been there a number of times, but haven't been there for a while since it is about a 45 minute drive from our home. The only thing that wasn't perfect was the seating was very tight and we were so close to the people on either side of us that we felt that we were eating with them. We figured that it was probably because it was NYE and they wanted to get as many seated as possible for the night.
Food was fresh and good but undeserving of Tomato's outstanding reputation. Duck was lean and crisp and not undercooked but pretty tasteless. The accompanying blueberry sauce was more like watered down jelly and needed some savoriness. My friend had short ribs which were tender and lean but also somewhat lacking in flavor. The $21 sashimi appetizer was not as good as the same freebie one we get at our favorite sushi bar. The cocktails were excellent as was the caramel apple cheesecake. Waitress was great.
Our first visit to Tomatoes was wonderful, great atmosphere, terrific food, really awesome staff..we ate one of the many booths in the bar from the bar menu- great nachos! Food was fresh and made to order. Several other menus and dining areas were available. Highly recommended by us!
It was way too noisy in the bar area. We asked to have the music lowered at least 4 times. They did lower the music each time but it was still way too loud. One of my friend's fish came cold. Another friend thought her chicken did not taste fresh. We have eaten at Tomatoes many times. This past visit was below par.
I work in a restaurant so whenever I go out to eat I am overly critical and I am Never disappointed by Tomatoes !!! They have great food great service ( Charles was great as well as the bussers). We started with the grilled octopus which was tender and tasty with a delicious sauce A+ and the lentil soup which was very good. I had a Cesar salad which is always tasty and my son and I both had the duck for dinner it’s our favorite entree on the menu. Always crispy and delicious with a tasty blueberry sauce... Overall a great dinner and a great night spent with my son.
Waitstaff very informative, but food was underwhelming. Long Island duckling was crisp, but consequently meat was over cooked and dry. Accompanying rice and sugar snap peas were completely unseasoned. Friend ordered crab cakes, which were tasty. Last weekend of summer menu, so many items unavailable. Bummer.
Menu descriptions could be better -- bacon and deviled eggs app was ungarnished, and eggs were breaded and fried! We would not have ordered if described accurately. Overall, it looked like the kitchen could care less about presentation. Disappointed.
Found you by chance 10 years ago in a travel guide while planning a weekend getaway.
Fell in love with the atmosphere, variety and quality of the menu + the exceptional service and attention to detail by your wait staff. We vaca @ the beach every summer and you are on our permanent list of must dos ! You never disappoint us with your menu and options. Most accommodating and you are always making sure we are being taken care of.
