Tomatoes Ratings and Reviews
It started with our winter Michael who was outstanding. He helped us select our suichi selection and entres and couldn't do enough for us. We come here often firnthe suichi which is always well prepared. I had the shirt rib special which was excellent as we're the other meals. All in all we had an excellent time and will come back again.
Everything we had was good. Nothing was great. The only reservation we could get was for 6 pm which turned out to be a blessing. By the time we left at 7:15 the noise level made it difficult to have a conversation. People in the bar and lounge seemed to be having a really fun time when we arrived. Luckily our table was not affected by the fun they were having!
Being a chef, I am very critical. The food was perfect. We had happy hour apps and then sat in dining area after. the experience was amazing. My only critic was on the service. Our server, was inexperienced and nervous. But, this did not affect the wonderful time and delicious food. I would reccommend Tomatoes to everyone..!!!
We arrived on time for our reservation, and were taken to a table in the dining room. We asked if we could be seated in a booth, and were promptly take to a nice booth. As it was a saturday, the place was filled. Our server arrived, greeted us,told us the (extensive)specials, took our appetizer and drink order, then left us to our conversation. The drinks arrived, followed briefly by our appetizer, our server answered some questions, made a recommendation, and we were left to savor the shrimp and veggie tempura. It was great! We ordered dinner specials,Lobster Risotto, and Sea Bass. Both ridiculously good. The Sea Bass looked like a cover off a mag.We had coffee and dessert,Blueberry Crumb pie and Choc.Marscapone Cheesecake.Never enjoyed a meal more!
The last time we went to Tomatoes it was two summers ago. The food was great as was the service. This time, the service was equally great but the food left something to be desired. At their prices, you expect the food to be a step up but it wasn't. We had a nice time but that's it...a nice time. We'll head elsewhere in Margate for a while.
Great food and lively atmosphere at Tomatoes, one of our special places for an evening out. It is a mainstay of shore dining and a hub restaurant in Margate--it's a local favorite. Don't miss the sushi menu. We are eagerly looking forward to having Tomatoes open again and better than ever after Hurricane Sandy.
We had a party of 8 and our server was wonderful. The food was ok but not great. Oysters were ok. Grilled octopus was good. The grilled fish was excellent but the sushi was not. It was a fun night but with so many good restaurants in the area like Steve and Cookies and Sofia, I will not rush back. It is a great bar spot but the food was mediocre.
Six of us enjoyed a leisurely dinner. The food was unanimously wonderful - special kudos for the Chilean bass. Only negative was no substitutions (side dishes on entrees) allowed. When we arrived the dining room was almost empty, and we enjoyed the semi-quiet atmosphere. Later the room filled, and the noise level rose accordingly - quite frankly, too much. It became difficult to hear everyone across the table for 6.
We started out with a table crammed in between two others- felt a bit crowded. In the end our waitress was extemely knowledgable and helpful- she recommended the chicken, not somthing we would often eat out- and it really was amazing. The wine was very good as was the list- reasonable priced and diverse. Took the dessert out (peanut butter pie) which was very good too. Mussels in thai curry sauce and grilled octopus appetizers were excellent. Many of the surrounding tables had sushi which looked very good- We stuck with the american menu and were not disappointed.
An outstanding eatery. The food was superb, even the basil and oregeno infused tomato used as a garnish was terrific. Had the best tomato soup that gradually brought a spicy kick up, the perfect blend of flavors, spice and kick. Entre was a perfectly done, rare tuna. This is an upscale, reasonably priced place...my new favorite upscale restuarant.
When you try the "Farm Plate" on Tomatoes' menu, you'll understand why we continue to invite friends to join us here for dinner. The food has been excellent each time. We come to the shore from out of town (Maryland) and we appreciate this restaurant's enthusiastic staff & delicious food.
Note: we've needed to make reservations in advance to get a table on Saturday evenings.
