Tomatoes Ratings and Reviews
The meal was spectacular and so good. The sea bass is a once in a kind and no other place makes as great garlic green beans and truffle Mac and cheese. The desserts were also wonderful and the banana cream pie and cookies had a special taste. I would be sure to have dinner at this restaurant when you are down the shore
Have not been to tomatoes for two years and was very disappointed. On the good side, the crab salad and the cold seafood platter were good. On the bad side, the New York strip steaks were so bad the steak knife would barely cut through it. The noise level was way too high and having a TV with the Simpsons on at 7:00 at night was a bit much. Even the numerous children were not watching it as they were all playing games on their phone. To top it off, our waitress was either distracted with too many tables, did not want to work that night or maybe just did not know how to properly serve a table. Service was below one star. Needless to say, our last time at Tomatoes and will head back down the street to our favorite place in Margate.
we just ate here on August 26th and it seemed like they were a bit over booked. at 8:45 our reservation time, they were still seating 8:15 reservations. the place was mobbed and no room at the bar. the food was very good so I would go again but not in the summer. I think out of season is the time to go to enjoy the meal
Had crabcakes which were excellent. My daughter had the duck which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her boyfriend had the sashimi appetizer and sea bass that looked excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and gave good input on what to order. Thanks for a great meal!
We had a shrimp-dumpling appetizer with an unpleasantly strong fishy taste. The scallops, a special, that one of us had for an entree, were excellent. Another seafood entree, however, was not premium quality. The salads were fresh and nicely constructed. Desert was a happiness.
We chose seating to lessen the noise level, but conversation was readily possible only between persons seated next to each other. Cocktails were good.
Our server was attentive, but it was a busy night.
I hate writing this negative review as I love Tomatoes and the owners Carmen & Karen, but it has slipped. The waitress was pleasant but did not bring bread and their famous garlic in oil until we asked. I even asked a busboy who never returned with it. Finally my wife and daughter ordered a salad and a hot meal from the kitchen while my other daughter and I ordered sushi. The sushi, even though I asked that it come with the kitchen entrees did not. It showed up 10 minutes later. Additionally my daughter's sushi order was delivered wrong. The extra wasabi I asked for at the time of the order never came and after I asked again the waitress failed to bring it.
These occurrences in service and efficiency have happened repeatedly this summer.
I hope they improve as the summer people are fickle. I remain loyal!
Service was excellent and food was exceptional. Homemade deserts were also excellent. One of the best meals I have had down the shore. Only thing that would make this place better is to have vegan options, the Pad Thai could not be done without the fish oil.
We were there on a Friday night at around 9 for dinner. The noise level was near excruciating and exacerbated by the club-style old school DJ music playing nonstop.
We waited for at least 15 minutes even with a reservation. However, the staff was professional and fairly friendly. Our server was very busy but she didn't forget us and the food was way above average for a "shore" restaurant. We enjoyed dinner but had to sit huddled close to hear each other. Don't go on a Friday evening if you really want to share conversation and aren't into a club-type atmosphere.
