Tomasso Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
After a great 4 course meal on Valentine's Day, we looked forward to the 4 course dinner on New Year's Eve. But, very disappointed and so unlike our normal Tomasso experiences. Comments on individual plates:
1. Blood orange salad: good flavor, only 2 pieces of orange.
2. Pasta a la Norma: boxed pasta, pedestrian putanesca sauce; half eaten
3. Coq-a-vin: huge disappointment. Pulled chicken in a broth w parsley. In other words, chicken soup!
4. Tiramisu: pedestrian.
5. Stop spraying olive oil on everything!
We will go back because we've had many good meals there. But, our New Year's Eve was tarnished.
Very poor management of menu. 2 of 5 main entrees were sold out by our reservation time. There is no excuse for ordering too little of the food that is offered on a fixed menu. Staff rarely checked in with our table after serving, possibly hearing our complaints. Manager should have stopped by the table to explain and felt bad for the uncomfortable situation the wait staff had been dealt. It would have shown good customer service and apology to have been offered drinks or a bottle of wine. Will not recommend to others.
We were welcomed by a friendly host & seated immediately at our table. Waitstaff were very knowledgeable. The wine recommendation was mid priced. Food was delicious. Can’t wait to go again. A wonderful neighborhood place but fancy enough for a special occasion.
This is a local gem. The general manager Mike and staff go out of there way to make your dining experience memorable. Anyone we refer, raves about the food and service. There is nothing on this menu that you would disappoint. Love this place. Thank you all for an amazing job.
Excellent, varied Italian menu. Dinner prices on the higher, special occasion side - but the food is worth it! They do offer pizza at a lower price, but I haven't tried those. Excellent service. A fine choice for a nice dinner or special occasion. The bar was busy on the night we were there - seemed like a "happening" place.
We had friends from out of town join us for dinner. There comments were, it was outstanding food and service. Ryan our server was incredible and really personable. The pork chop and Lamb chops were to die for. You have to have try the lava cake or cannolis. Thank you to Mike and his great staff. Another memorable night.
Ryan Our server...very accommodating...was informed of my many allergies from the manager Mike C...feel special that they take the extra care for their customers dietary needs...thanks to the staff for all they did to make my best friends birthday the best one ever!
Loved it. Always get good food here. We sat in the bar area and one of the bartenders was our server. He did a great job - very attentive despite a busy bar crowd and very knowledgeable about the menu and nightly specials. Even turned on the Penn State game for me, so extra thanks for that.
So much potential, very nice atmosphere and bar area. Friendly staff but lack proper serving training. If you appreciate good food and fine wines, you ll be very disappointed. Try this spot every 6 months or so given I live in neighborhood in the hopes that they improve but sadly, no progress.
Great food and impeccable service. Although the restaurant was crowded the set up of the tables made it possible for us to have an intimate conversation. It was particularly enjoyable to hear our warm and courteous server describe the specials and answer our menu questions. She was very knowledgeable. Her passion for excellence was quite obvious.
I’ll start by saying this used to be our favorite Italian meal outside of Boston. We hadn’t been in a while. It was my Mom’s 75th and my Mother-inlaw’s 80th. I noted that on the reservation.
For openers, at no time did anyone mention either birthday. Disappointing. We also have a 9 month old and had requested space for her. They did a nice job of accommodating us here.
We ordered appetizers and salads to start. When the apps came we ordered our main courses. Here is where the issues started.
The apps and salads were very good, although the salads were over-dressed. There was almost an hour between our salads and our main courses. After about 30 minutes I asked about our meals. The manager came by and curtly apologized for the delay saying they were busy tonight. Then at the end of his comments said that we ordered 3 courses and basically said it was our fault. We ordered apps, salad and a meal. It shouldn’t take this long and he shouldn’t have blamed us. He also barely looked up, didn’t ask if there was anything they could get us. Just poor service. He did say our food was up next. And it still took 15+ minutes to get our food.
When the food did finally come, the salmon dish was luke warm. There were two orders of bolognese. Mine had some clumped together pasta. Not exceptable for this level of restaurant serving fresh pasta. Our other order was basically three giant clumps. Not even edible. We had to ask for them to take that meal off of the bill. The manager did not offer anything.
I will say our waitress was very nice and she was doing the best she could. And the others who delivered food and serviced our table were also good.
The lack of quality around the food and the failure to address issues by the manager have left us disappointed.
On extra item. Tomassos has no infant changing table. They could fit them. Also maybe make the handicap room a companion room. I was surprised the manage could not tell me th closest one.
Had people from out of town, and all they could do is rave about the food and service. Always a great dining experience. This is a local gem. If you haven't eaten here I highly recommend it. Chef Daniele Baliani and Chef João Neto prepare incredible meals that tantalize the palate. Thank you all for an outstanding job.
We've been coming here for several years. Always a great dining experience. The staff is outstanding. The food is amazing. The pork chop was cook to perfection. The chef prepares your meal as if it's own. The wine list is fantastic. Jackie our server, is so personable and such a delight. Mike the GM, is a class act. Always makes you feel like family. Love coming here. Thank you all for another great dining experience.
Since the change in management and the head chef, my wife and I have dined at Tomasso Trattoria on several occasions. The servers have consistently been very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The food selection has been excellent and well prepared/seasoned. Our dinners this last time were better than ever...my wife is still raving about her lamb entrée, while my steak couldn't have been better.
I overheard someone raving about this restaurant at a doctor’s office.
Late dining on a Friday evening, the restaurant was pretty quiet. The bartender was okay at first, getting us water and bread quickly but thereafter, though in front of us, he barely interacted with us...NEVER asking us if we were enjoying our dishes!
The antipasto dish was sophmorish compared to most Italian restaurants. The pasta with kale was SPECTACULAR! The risotto with pumpkin and squash lacked salt, pepper and overly sweet. The lemon panna cotta was great but the berry topping was too sweet, too much, over the top.
My biggest complaint was the inattentive bartender, NO EXCUSE!!!!
We've been coming here for several years. Have never had a bad experience or meal. Jeff the owner and Mike the GM make us feel like family. The food is spectacular and the service excellent. Their pasta dishes, you can not go wrong with or anything on the menu. The antipasto...Bravo!! Their Lamb porterhouse is to die for. Jeremy and Mike behind the bar, will always recommend the best wine or drink for. Absolutely love coming here. It's a local gem. Thank you all for always giving us a great dining experience. Don't forget to end your meal with one of their desserts and a cappuccino.
It was my wife's birthday - so it was great they made it special and we could get away just for a little while. Our waitress was great and very attentive without being overbearing. We'll go back again - thanks for putting a candle in the lava cake but not singing happy b-day!
