Tomasso Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
Although it's still good, Tomasso used to be great. This time we had a daily appetizer special that needed more seasoning, an a bolognese that I know for sure I can do better at home, but was good nonetheless. For the main dish I had a veal osso bucco that was undercooked at every level: from the tough meat (remember, this is veal) to the raw (yes, raw) waxy potatoes.
The service is still pretty decent and the wine list is reasonable. At their price point, there are better choices out there.
Had an amazing dinner for Valentines day here. The special menu was tremendous. The scallop ceviche, beet risotto and tuna were amazing. The orange crostada was perfect! Clearly they spent a lot of time putting this perfect special menu together and this diligence shows in their cooking, presentation and overall experience. I am always happy with this restaurant!
As usual, the menu never ceases to amaze me! For lunch, we enjoyed their wonderful pizzas, and roasted veggies. For dinner, the grilled trumpet mushrooms, when in season, put any steak to shame. Service is always top notch, breakfast, lunch or dinner, or simply letting Larry at the bar dazzle you with his smile and artistry. Truly a local gem with great food, great people, wonderfully familiar and cozy!
Tomasso represents cooking as true art. Dishes sound simple, even boring compared to the overblown descriptions on so many menus these days; but the food is an absolute revelation. How can it be so delicious, the flavors so perfect? Even the salad garnishes surprise with their delectable flavor. I suppose it's a matter of the best ingredients prepared ideally, not overwrought. Fun to sit at the kitchen bar and watch the artists (alchemists?) in action. Tomasso is an order of magnitude better than anything else outside 128. I've not just enjoyed, but savored, every meal I've eaten there (maybe 15). Service is friendly and highly professional.
Food was good to very good, but despite being partitioned into two rooms, and no large groups that night the place was LOUD. REALLY LOUD. Had to sit right next to my wife diagonally at a small table, and almost yell to be heard. Even when half the tables emptied out, it was still loud. The food was good, not great. But the fairly crowded seating, upscale cafeteria decor, and unpleasant noice made it less than pleasant for a romantic evening.
We had a wonderful dinner 3 courses with wine pairings. The food was delicious and the wine pairings perfect! The service was very good. A fantastic evening and we look forward to going back in the near future!
Our only negative was everything was so great then they served us okay tasting cold bread. This is a restaurant that one would expect the bread to be up to par with the rest of the meal and be fresh out of the oven!
We ordered from the Prezzo Frisso menu with wine pairings and enjoyed it immensely. Nice mix of flavors, unusual and delightful. The pork ravioli were a real treat. The service came from a large number of staff members and all were pleasant and attentive. We will definitely find a time to visit again. The only drawback, and this is minor, is that we would not sit in the side front room again. It was drafty and oddly noisy in an echo-like way. We've dined in their main room before and it was much nicer. And everytime we pass through the bar area it looks very inviting, so maybe that will be next!
THe service was terrific, very attentive and gracious. The wine pairings were great, we both liked two of the three wines and how it impacted the food. However, the food was very bland and not well seasoned at all. We had three courses and selected different items, none were a 'wow'. The waitress was gracious and tried to please with offers of dessert instead. She was terrific but I think I can find better italian food in the Metrowest area.
The wine list is outstanding and the food is always top notch. I'd say the most inconsistent thing we've found might be the meat entrees. I went through a stretch of 3 visits where every meat dish I ordered was tough or super salty but everything else was so fantastic it was forgivable. The Misty Knoll Chicken is beyond your average chicken entree--it is really superb. The care with which the food is prepared shows in every way. We've enjoyed the Prezzo Fisso menu which is a great deal and we've also done the multi course dinner which can feel like a wonderful adventure. The staff is attentive without hovering. We've never had issues with service but we've witnessed other tables waiting a LONG time between courses on a busy night.
We had an outstanding meal and experience. Food rivaled any 5-star eatery anywhere, with attention to freshness, taste, texture, etc. Wine pairings were spot on as well. Attitude of staff was awesome, attentive and unobtrusive (so rare these days). You can't go wrong in walking into this wonderful place. I am critical and I could not find even a "spot on an olive" to complain about!
Restaurant was very accommodating when we increased our party from 4-5 on a busy night. Food was good, but felt the wine pours were on the skimpy side. A little disappointed that they had a limited (exclusive) beer and wine selection. Good service. A little on the expensive side.
You need to bring your checkbook with you to have a total Tomasso experience. We love it there, but can only go occasionally as with wine, app, primi, second and dessert it is over $200 per couple. The ambiance does not support the price tag, but the food is very good.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The special event was beyond expectations, and worth every cent. The learning experience, the food and the ambiance was majestically pulled off by the entire staff. Kudos for such a high end establishment that is still unpretentious, down to earth and superbly executed! If you see they have porketta on the menu, by all means RUN to the restaurant... it is OUTSTANDING!
First time we went for brunch. It was much quieter than usual and only a few tables were occupied (around 11:00am). I found the french toast with marscarpone a bit dry and heavy. My wife ordered the eggs benedict and requested vegetarian if they could do it -- they did an awesome job and my wife loved it.
Restaurant was very noisy, had to nearly shout at others in our party of 4. Food was well cooked but we thought it was vastly overpriced for what it was. My husband had the special steak (16oz) and it was just a slab of meat on a plate with a few sprigs of something to make it look good, which it didn't. He said the meat was very tasty but was not worth $56! Vegetables were extra.
We were seated along the wall with bench sitting ( and opposite chair). This type seating makes your conversation part of your neighbors! They can hear every word you say because you are one foot apart. When we return I will request another section to dine in. Dinner was a taste treat!
The food and wine were, as always, outstanding! A computer glitch meant that courses were a bit slow coming out of the kitchen but this was balanced by quintessentially thoughtful, knowledgeable and professional service - in particular from Sean, our primary staff person.
Another stunning performance from chef Melnick and the incredible staff. The crudo was spectacular, So much that we wanted to run a sample over to Boston and have Chef at another establishment experience tartare perfection. The polenta with mushroom Ragu was silky, creamy, decadent. Garganelli with duck and cherry flavorful without heaviness. Tomasso delivers delicately sinful meals, performed flawlessly.
