Tomaso's - Phoenix Ratings and Reviews
This was not the first time that I dined at the restaurant. I had been in the local area for an appointment and stopped to eat lunch. The staff is very accommodating and kind and very informative When asked about preparation of dishes . The wine list was extensive with fabulous Italian regional wines. Not to mention others on the list. My and my husbands meals were prepared perfectly to our taste. I have to say that the food is consistently delicious. I can also say the price point on the wine list is very reasonable compared to other similar restaurants. We have found our new favorite Italian restaurant in the valley! It only took us six years of searching.
Loved the restaurant!Their lobster bisque was outstanding and had lots of actual pieces of lobster in it and was served in a large bowl. We could have easily shared it and gotten an ample amount! The veal marsala was served with a generous helping of the marsala sauce and was very tender and flavorful. Everything right down to the butter was delicious! All the courses were generous servings except the dessert. The Tiramisu was to die for, but a very small amount!
I’ve been going to Tomaso’s for over 20 years. Have always loved the food and impeccable service. A little disappointed with Christmas dinner. Online menu mentioned nothing about a set menu. I don’t eat meat and they had no non meat selections so I asked for just a plate of spaghetti. While they did accommodate my special request, my food was disappointing. Undercooked and not very hot. Service was also not as attentive as I remember from past experience. Even with the disappointments I would still return for their regular menu as I do know their food is wonderful.
We had a reservation and went on Christmas evening. We were seated promptly. We did not feel rushed. I ordered a glass of rose wine and after a glass they ran out. They did give me what was left in the bottle complimentary. They did not allow a substitution on the side dish from potatoes to pasta which was disappointing. I thought the food was good but nothing special like you’d expect on a special occasion. They did have a nice selection of wine by the bottle. I had seen the owner and chef on a morning show and was extremely excited to go, but I’d likely not put this on my list of preferred dining options.
Christmas dinner with my son. Not very friendly when we entered the restaurant, not even a Merry Christmas from hostess or even an enjoy your dinner-almost seemed an annoyance to the hostess we arrived;otherwise waiter provided great service and we were served delicious food. Disappointed that with our reservation we were seated at table by the bar near the bathroom. Table under air conditioner vent, asked waiter if they could turn off or turn up AC, they did but was back on the rest of our dinner. If teenager wasn’t concerned about changing table, I would have requested another table. I would recommend for the food and service but would be hesitant to return based on overall reception from hostess and table by the restroom.
Thus was our first time at this restaurant on Christmas day. I would say that we were disappointed with the food and the service. We had children with us and ordered chocolate milk, and the waiter replied that they didn't have that but that he'd have them make it for us. It never happened. Also, when we were ordering dessert, he said to let him know what we wanted because he didn't want to make several trips into the kitchen. I thought that was rude. Then when we wanted coffee, they only brought one and four of us had to wait because they never stuck around to get our full order. They never refilled our water glasses, either.
This was our first time to eat at Tommaso’, so we didn’t know what to expect. We had an early reservation but it was already crowded since it was Christmas Eve. The atmosphere was lively and full of Christmas spirit. Wonderful service, great bread yummy salad and anti pasta. The menu options were very varied, but I don’t think my husband and I picked the right meals . Mine was rigatoni and meatballs which was good but not great. My husband had the Alfredo and he felt the same way . I think we will go back there for another night sometime when it’s not a holiday and so crowded . It was the perfect place for our Christmas Eve dinner with our adult son .
We went here for Christmas Eve and everything was Fantastic! The staff were outstanding from the hostess to the busboys. Our waiter was the best we have ever had (and we eat out a lot!) The food was fantastic! All five of us loved our entrees. We are going to make this a Christmas tradition in our family.
The food was excellent but there was a 6-person party seated next to us acting like they were the only people there - very loud, yelling at each other across the table -- very rude -- which made it almost impossible for us to hear each other and enjoy our conversation.
I don’t care for truffles and the menu offered little without them. My guest’s salad was forgotten and never brought, with little or no apology. The calamari appetiser was undercooked and the sauce was ordinary. The waiter didn’t hear very well (I’m sorry about that, neither do I). My Negroni, ordered “up” with a couple of ice cubes floating, was served in a brandy snifter filled with ice. The table near us had two raucous women who seemed to feel that their comments were important to all diners (not). It would’ve been helpful if someone—perhaps the waiter who doesn’t hear very well) would’ve asked them to speak more quietly. It was a dreadful experience all round, sadly, as I booked it for a special occasion.
I made this reservation for a surprise family birthday. I specified in the reservation that it was a birthday celebration and would like them to treat it as such and include a birthday cake. Unfortunately, they did nothing to make it special, and no cake! I was under the false impression that Tomaso's was a higher caliber restaurant than it is in actuality. There are many fine Italian restaurants with food as good or better so why not go to one that cares about it's customers. Tomaso's was a disappointment.
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend, so the ratings for food and service were passed along to me by my wife and other guests.
Tomaso’s Is a regular dining option when I visit the Phoenix area. In a city know for its numerous dining options, it is comforting to have a place that never disappoints. Elegant, without being stuffy, Tomas’s always rewards its customers with a wonderful dining experience. Good food, great service, and elegant surroundings; what else is there.
The food was bland for an Italian restaurant it had absoulutly no flavor and was over priced, the waiting staff took forever to asssist us and clear the table, we asked for more bread and the assistant didn't even bring spread. We had wine and weren't asked if we'd like more, the enviromemt is full of buisness partners and meetings. I will not be returning ever again.
First off this place is definitely for older patrons. My mom's birthday dinner started off great with the hostess giving us a warm welcome and seating us at our table. The waiter was pleasant enough throughout the meal, only needed to be flagged down a couple of times but he forgot it was my mother's birthday. No candle in either of the 2 desserts we ordered which was disappointing since I had seen it offered at another table nearby.
Took my wife here for our 30th Anniversary. She is quite the Foodie so I needed to find something different and good.
The service was excellent, the food was excellent, my only complaint is the Neighbors.....the table across from us had 12-14 people and for some reason they thought it appropriate to talk very loudly to each other. In an open floor plan like this is, that is less than respectful to other diners. I had to stop myself twice from approaching the people and calling them on their disrespectful manners.
We had a Veal Chop Caprese, phenomenal! and a Pacherri Amalfitani, which was excellent!! Homemade ravioli, excellent spice level, only thing I would have like a few more shrimp.
The Tiramisu was the best I have ever had.
After dinner we were fortunate enough to meet Tomaso himself, that was a great topper to an already wonderful evening.
Will definitely be back!
Husband and friends hadn't been there in a long time and this was my first visit. The food was great! The bread was not very crusty for Italian bread but the herb butter was nice. The room was a little loud for conversation but it was a Saturday, Dino was our server and we had ask 3 times for the wine list and twice for fresh pepper.
The locals say Tomaso's is the best Italian restaurant in the Phoenix metropolitan area and I agree. The menu offers a wide selection and the flavor is outstanding. The environment is classic "old school" supper club. That means it's a great spot for a quiet dinner whether it's casual, business, or a special occasion.
