The food was well prepared, but the portions were barely adequate for the price. Our party was there for a birthday celebration, and barely received a Happy Birthday from the waiter. Many other restaurants in the same price range would present a complimentary dessert or drink for such an occasion. Not so at Tomas Bistro. Also, the menu on their website AND at the door listed entrees that were no longer available, leading to some disappointment. For my money I would prefer to dine elsewhere.
The restaurant failed on all accounts. I had such high hopes based on the reviews and both the service (really bad) and the food (marginally good in a city with great food) were substandard. The pompano was way over cooked, the pecan crusted drum lacked flavor and the service was not attentive nor timely.
I would recommend going elsewhere as the city of New Orleans has much better options within 3 blocks.
Loved it..welcoming ..gracious service. .loads of tempting options to choose from..noise controled...conversation very easy..great location. .cannot wait to return
Great meal and solid service.
We were Looking forward to a date night dinner. The food and service did not disappoint, however the atmosphere could use some attention. For starters a restaurant of this quality doesn't need a TV, this is not a sports bar.
The decor needs a bit of updating, however the event room appeared to be much up to date and elegant.
Overall a.very good experience. We would go back for food and less for an elegant evening date.
Luke was an outstanding waiter -- attentive when necessary; otherwise, stayed in the background and allowed us to enjoy our time together and the meal. The food was very good except for one issue -- the lobster bisque, which was not at all acceptable. Two out of four at our table ordered it; and both returned the bisque after a small tasting. I, too, tasted it and concurred. So, on the first level we were disappointed with the lobster bisque. Second, I was disappointed the 2 bisques were not removed from the bill. This should be standard practice at any restaurant. Regretfully we were under a tight timetable, so I let that oversight pass. However, the next time I visit Tomas Bistro -- well, suffice to say, I'm sure it won't happen again. It is still worth a try.
Appetizers, dinner and desert were all excellent as was the service.
Great service, great food and a great location. What's there not to like!
Great service. Never rushed. Waiter knew the menu very well. Cocktails excellent.
Tomas Bistro always does a great job. Loved the food and service. Excellent overall.
Ordered my steak medium rare and it came well done. Considering that we were one of 4 tables and we could not get anyone's attention for almost 10 minutes after the food came.
Food was delicious. We had seafood and steak at our meal. Service was attentive. Ambiance was great for enjoying food and great conversation. Look forward to returning.
Someone must think this is a nightclub! The lights are so low that on cannot read the menu and the music is too loud for this restaurant setting, especially when full of patrons talking. Other than that it is a very nice place to go.
Wonderful food. Best pompano dish ever. Everything we ordered was great.
Looking for a quieter place, off the beaten track of tourists and tourist focused food. Tomas Bistro was a lucky find. The Scallop appetizer was excellent and my rack of lamb was perfectly cooked, green beans were thin and crisp and the sauce was rich and flavorful. The chocolate cake for desert was perfect as well. Great wine list - and our server did an excellent job. I would certainly eat here again.
Awesome as always. Luke was a great server. Will be back.
Great place for a date or group event. Be sure to ask to see the private rooms for your next event.
Took the wife here for St Valetine's Day supper, and we had a really nice meal, some good wine, and dessert
Always great! Good food, reasonable prices. Lovely ambiance. A regular favorite of ours!
Perhaps the best meal we've ever had...drinks, appetizer, and entrees all perfect.
Waiters were surly and miserable. We waited for our food about an hour and the wait wasn't worth it. We would not recommend this Bistro.
This is painful to write.
First lest talk about the FOOD. I dined with 13 guest and we had appetizer before the meal. Food was outstanding, really GREAT. We had fresh fish, Steak, sides, etc. all very good. So you get a 10 on food. AMAIZING
Let move to service. In the beg89iing the service was great, it was early 6:30, everyone got a drink, appetizers and relaxed. Salads and 2nd course came out a bit slower, but all was ok. Servicer begin to get to many table to manage. Server tried to be attentive, but missed the mark. After about 45 minutes then came dinner. It had been too long, restaurant was completely filled up. We waited for 3 dinner for an extra 10-15 min, and after the wait we told them to never mind. 3 DINNERS NEVERD showed, with no real explanation.
I have NO idea what happened, they did make up with 1 bottle of wine and Dessert, but it was so late everyone wanted to leave. In my option the restaurant was busy, but not Super packed.
Great food and service.
Upon arrival the restaurant was not busy which was fine. Waiter attentive and explanation of specials excellent. A very large party arrived not long after but our waiter continued to be attentive to us and get our order in prior to the large party. Our food was excellent. The noise level rose with large party but didn't hinder us being able to converse.
We've eaten here before and will again.
We were there for NYE maybe that's why everything was subpar, but they weren't busy.
Food took less than 5 min to come out-- meaning it was already prepared.
Nothing was bad, just wasn't good.
Service also wasn't bad, but not good either. Felt very rushed and for no reason, bc they weren't busy!
Fine dining with white tablecloth service in a relaxed setting. Charming authentic New Orleans atmosphere, The menu selection exceeded my expectations and included turtle soup, roasted duck and pompano. We had a great experience and cant wait to go back!
Disappointed but we'll give it another chance. We've gone there for years, but the food quality was inconsistent on New Years Eve. The prime rib was so full of ligaments you could hardly cut or chew it. Entre arrived at the table before we were finished our soup. The waiter was very good and the atmosphere is very nice, but the kitchen needs to step up its game.
First time diners for New Year's Eve. The menu appears a bit pricey at first, but after thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food, the prices are appropriate. We will definitely be back!
Food was just average at best. Salads were over dressed. The 3 little green beans on my plate were over cooked and the potatoes were extremely salty. All in all over priced and underwhelming quality The only redeeming attribute was a great wine list and excellent waiter
We would not recommend this place as there are so many wonderful options in this great city !!
The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Portions were a great size. Went for my Birthday and could not have been a better experience. Will be going back and bringing family and friends.
We had Christmas Eve dinner here, and it was a lovely setting with white lights on the court yard, the atmosphere inside was great. Of course it was a busy night so I will cut some slack for not the level of service I would have expected, like water glasses not refilled, empty plates and glasses removed from the table, and the food not hot.
The meal was tasty, and my husband did send his back to be reheated while mine sat on the table, but we had a nice evening and are glad we went. I think on a normal night the overall experience would have been better, but I would certainly recommend it, and will go back.
My OpenTable reservation didn't appear on the restaurant's system. Fortunately, the hostess was very accommodating and we got a table anyway. Overall, it was a good experience. While it is typical to have limited menus on Xmas Eve in Nola, we were unaware that Tomas Bistro was doing that ahead of time and were unable to order a couple of items we were looking forward to. 3 of the 4 options we did order were spectacular, with the fourth being just okay--pretty good odds! Service was stellar --attentive and thoughtful. Wine list was nicely curated and all of the prices were very reasonable. Despite a couple of missteps, we are still talking about the BBQ Oysters--heavenly!
Our waitress had a real attitude, maybe not happy to be working Christmas Eve?
$17 for a single slightly undercooked nothing special crab cake.
During a visit to New Orleans we wanted to find a restaurant away from the french Quarter for a different experience and atmosphere. Tomas bistro is in the Warehouse District which was close to our River front Hotel. We walked there in just a few minutes and found a fun, less crowded neighborhood with bars, live music, and restaurants. Tomas Bistro had a warm atmosphere. Our waitress was pleasant and provided wonderful service. My husband tried a Pecan Old Fashioned which he enjoyed greatly. Our food was delicious and fresh. We enjoyed Veal Oscar, Mussels with Frites, a delicious salad with Goat cheese croutons and carmelized scallops cooked perfectly. For dessert a flourless chocolate cake and Creme Brulee - delicious! We enjoyed a romantic meal and didn't feel rushed, but also didn't have to wait. Great place!
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner for a small group of eight. The restaurant was not crowded on a Sunday night, and they we able to accommodate us on short notice. The atmosphere was great; it just had a "Good Feel!" It was not noisy, and everyone was able to hear and converse at our table of 8, which is rare these days. (Most restaurants seem to be trending toward so much noise, it is impossible to enjoy they meal.) Restaurant was also lightly decorated for Christmas/holidays.
The food was excellent. The Veal Oscar and the Lamb Chops were over the top, each with its own sauce, not too spicy but with a little kick.
If you are looking for a nice relaxing restaurant for Sunday Dinner, I would recommend giving Tomas Bistro a try.
A gracious welcome, with excellent menu and wine list. Service was impeccable. A beautiful, historic building!
Excellent place for Saturday night dining after a Saenger Theater performance. Carpetbagger steak ( Filet with fried oysters), pecan crusted drum, and shrimp remoulade were our choices and each was well-prepared, nicely presented, and delicious. Sister restaurant to Tommy's Cuisine across Tchoupitoulas Street.
Very good good and service. Nice place for a date.
Attentive service. Nice atmosphere--upscale casual. We were a party of six, and our dinner was executed perfectly--for all courses. None of us ordered the same entrée or appetizer and no one was disappointed in their selection. Reasonably priced as well.
