Delightful restaurant serving a menu of tried and tested high quality dishes accompanied by a wide choice of wines. Extremely busy and very popular. Advance booking recommended. The service standards, from an excellent staff and the sophisticated ambience would not be out of place in any upscale location, despite which there is very reasonable pricing.
My birthday was made extra special because everything was perfect. The service, food and atmosphere were great.
The black spaghetti was amazing!!! Our service was amazing. Reservations is a must for this place....as it gets pretty busy really quick.
I always love my dinners at Toma, and happily have referred my friends to go there. I am extremely hard of hearing and am always happy when I can join in with conversations with my friends and family. I have in the past requested to be seated at either tables 40 or 41 (along side of the wall) near the end of the bar. This seems to work best for me. This time this request was not honored and we were seated at the other side of the restaurant against the wall, and, although we could hear well at first, it became increasingly more difficult once the tables near us were filled. As always everyone was most gracious and we enjoyed our meal----although we were unable to engage in any kind of a conversation. A pity because my sister lives in New York and we rarely get these opportunities to have fun dinners together.
I love Toma we eat here every time we visit Santa Barbara, always great food and service.
Excellent - Have had dinner at Toma many times and the food and service are always wonderful
We were in Santa Barbara for the weekend to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. It was a very lovely, intimate setting across from the beach. Our drink recommendations were great (golden gate and a play on an old fashion). We ordered the sashimi cones that everyone recommends. And it was good... silly kinda presentation but delicious nonetheless!! (so it doesn’t matter how it comes!)
I ordered the gnocchi with shrimp and husband ordered the scallops and lobster mash. Everything was so delicious and tasty and rich!! We really wanted to try the oil cake but I couldn’t stop eating our main course, so I was a little too full to enjoy. Next time!
*I guess the only advice I could give to those looking to really feel like they are celebrating a special event, do not expect anything (even if you might have made notes in your invitation) I had made reservations noting our 10 yr anniversary at toma and bouchon and it wasn’t recognized at all at toma, but the hostess at bouchon greeted us warmly mentioning our anniversary and made us feel really welcomed with a perfectly placed table romantically decorated and they had a personal note congratulating us on our special evening signed by the owners, chef etc.
We would most definitely come back to Toma though! The food was excellent!!
We've been wanting to go to Toma for several years. We finally were able to work out a time. LOVED it!!!
We discovered Toma's a few years ago after staying next door in a motel. What a surprise! We eat here every time we head north to N. Cal to visit family and make this a mandatory stop for great food and wonderful service!
Great place far special date or hanging out with good friends. You can't beat the food.
This is my second time at this restaurant and overall it was a good experience. My disappointment was I felt that, even though I had indicated the special occasion I was celebrating (an anniversary), the restaurant did little to acknowledge it; my wife and I were given a seat right adjacent to another couple, back next to the bar. When I asked about an open table in a nicer location, I was told it was for someone else (who did not show up for at least 15 minutes later). Also, at the end of the meal, no complimentary desert was offered (the desert I ordered did come with a candle). I recognize that restaurants are not obligated to provide this type of service but it would have been a nice touch to make the evening special. The food was terrific and those serving were very good. However, I think next time I may take my special event elsewhere.
Waited too long to get service to start with. Also throughout the whole meal service was slow.
this is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. we always feel so welcome
and we love that we know most of the staff as they are so friendly and knowledgable on the wine and the menu
you won't be disappointed..
Wonderful food, service and atmosphere! The perfect place to celebrate our anniversary! Our waiter went above and beyond! His recommendations for both wine and food were in spot! Can’t wait to return!
We love this place. The food and staff was outstanding. The ambiance was lovely. We went for our 34 year wedding anniversary...so glad we did.
Thank you Tomas for outstanding service.
Traditional Italian- large plates. Plating could be better to make more visually appealing. Sauce for rigatoni was soupy. Nice server and romantic.
All good, as always.
One of our favorites
We had a superior dining experience. Appetizers, soup, entrées, desserts were all perfectly prepared. Service was outstanding. We will be back.
Always great at Tomas
Food, ambience and service were great! Loved it! It was a special birthday for my husband and we were all very pleased!
Went with my two adult daughters to celebrate their birthdays. We had a lovely meal and two bottles of wine from their extensive list. The waiter was friendly and just the right combo of attentive but not annoying. They were nice enough to let us linger without rushing us out the door when we finished our meal, even tho the restaurant was pretty busy.
We come to Toma every time we visit town with our daughter at UCSB. This is a very special restaurant for us as it was our first Santa Barbara restaurant and also our favorite!
We invited friends to come and have a nice dinner with us. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Tuna Cone appetizer is always a great way to start the evening. We have always had great service and outstanding meals here.
Just simply, great!
The food and wine were delicious, prepared perfectly.
Our table was ready upon arrival.
The ambiance is elegant, cozy, and welcoming.
The staff were polite, attentive and kind.
A tasty dessert was offered in honor of our anniversary- a sweet and appreciated touch.
Fabulous! Toma is a gem. We are lucky enough to be close enough to walk. Walking home along the beach after dinner is perfect way to finish a perfect evening. Tuna cones are to die for, do not pass them up. I had the monk fish special that evening, saved a morsel just so that I could taste it again.
The place was a bit on the loud side for us. They had a good wine selection but the main course dinner options were limited. Fortunately for me I asked the waiter if I should get the scallops or the short ribs and was most pleased with his recommendation to get the scallops! My husband ordered the short ribs and was disappointed as they were on the blah side. Service was attentive but not intrusive.
Mediocre food and a pretty unimaginative menu. Pleasant ambiance though.
Very good food and drinks. They have little boxes for kids with lots of things for them to be entertained. Service was excellent. We would return, especially for a date or special occasion.
My brother and his wife were visiting Santa Barbara and we enjoyed a delicious, lovely evening at Toma. Always a great evening,
We had a wonderful dinner. Started w/waiter volunteering a taste of a wine by the glass which I was unfamiliar with. Restaurant was packed, but he brought our wine out quickly. Soon after he asked if we were ready to order, but we requested a few more minutes to sip wine. No problem. We split three dishes in three courses--arugula salad, ravioli, rack of lamb. Every bite was perfect and the wines I selected w/each course were served at the perfect time. We eat there whenever we visit Santa Barbara and find it's the best, most consistent food that we've found.
It was our first time dining at Toma and we were not disappointed. The food was fresh and good - could probably could use a little more seasoning, but that was my only complaint. The cocktails were good and the creme brûlée was the best I’ve ever had. The service was great, the ambiance was nice and it just felt good.
It was the third time we’ve been there. This time we brought another couple who joined us on our rail trip up from Orange County. They loved the black spaghetti dish and we enjoyed the best lasagna we’ve ever had.
It’s nice to find a great restaurant with reasonable prices and within walking distance from the warerfront hotel accommodations.
By the way, we asked if the air that was right over us could be adjusted. The host came over immediately and he said he would turn it off and it was done. So nice of them to not make excuses for the air being on plus it was a chilly evening on St. Patrick’s Day.
Can’t wait to go back soon.

Wonderful meal. Attentive service and very well prepared dishes
One of Santa Barbara's best. Toma's has the personal touch of Tom, the owner/proprieter and somalier. Good wine selections - both local and Italian. Fabulous rack of lamb. Creative and delicious salads.
Business dinner with a colleague last night. I ordered the lamb chops rare. The first time they were served they were well done - not a sign of "pink". The second time it would be generous to call them medium. There was a spot of pink in the center of each chop but nothing red or cool. If the chef can't or won't cook lamb chops rare, he/she shouldn't accept an order for rare lamb chops. Otherwise everything was fine but definitely not the #1 Restaurant in Santa Barbara.
Our expectations were high and exceeded. Best rack of lamb ever. Casual clothes are accepted, but not the norm. It is an experience for which dressing up a bit is reasonable
