Tom Hams Lighthouse Ratings and Reviews
Went to Tom Ham's Lighthouse for my wife's birthday. This was our first visit to this restaurant. Overall the food was good, had cerviche, my wife the market fish, and I had the paella. Service was outstanding and exceeded my expectations. However, the biggest reason we will go back is the view of the ocean and downtown San Diego. It was outstanding and with the evening darkness was truly a great romantic atmosphere.
The waitstaff was outstanding. Even the young servers pouring water and bringing bread were very professional and courteous. The view of the skyline is gorgeous, and the overall ambiance is romantic and charming. The food was very good, but overpriced because of the view and setting. Overall, the restaurant is wonderful for a couple's date night or special occasion. Love it!
Most disappointing that the restaurant paid no attention whatsoever to the special request we had most carefully drafted upon booking with "Open Table", a fact which became immediately clear when the attendant asked us whether we wanted to eat inside or outside. What is the point of prompting bookers to make special requests if restaurant can't be bothered to look at them? Will NOT risk it again.
Food is a bit pricey & a little unusual, but so flavorful & beautiful presentation, along with healthy portions. This restaurant is all about the views & ambiance. The staff is so attentive & knowledgeable. We will be back!!! Special thank you to our waiter Nick who knocked it out of the park!
Had dinner with friends asked specifically about the fresh fish to make sure it was indeed fresh yellowtail. We were super disappointed when we got our dinner and to discover that the fish was super fishy and old . This is the worst service we've ever had at this restaurant and the waiter didn't even ask our meal was. We left hungry and we told the waiter we didn't like our fish, he barely even apologized and didn't even offer to take it off our bill . So after much discussion at our table we decided to call the waiter back and have him take it off our bill which he was very put out about. Overall it was a disappointment very sad service for such a nice restaurant .
We went to dinner with our niece visiting from Santa Barbara, so wanted to show her a wow view and my wife wanted some sort of fish. I had the market fish which was the yellow tail and it was delicious. Our niece had the paella and enjoyed it. My wife was disappointed in her linguini and shrimp as it had bay shrimp which she was not aware of since it wasn't described on the menu. Our niece and I had dessert - the key lime pie and the chocolate cake and they were both delicious - if small. I'm a big dessert person, so the bigger the better.
Ive been multiple times for corporate events and they offer great service but their food quality is below average. We have a yearly event there and swore I would never go there for dinner and pay with my own money. Several friends have raved about their sunday brunch and they did not disappoint.
Outstanding. The food, drinks and service were all just great. Start off with the chilled appetizer. All fresh and just great. The bouillabaisse and the fish and f the day were fresh and cooked very well. Our server Nicholas was just outstanding, great sense of humor and perfect timing.
I have been to Tom Ham's Lighthouse many times. It is always enjoyable and a restaurant that I have on my "special" list for a nice lunch or dinner with my husband or a get together with friends. The location is wonderful and the service is always very good. The menu changes occasionally, and unfortunately, some of my favorites have been substituted by other dishes, but I enjoying trying out new tastes. Servers or hostesses are always amenable to taking a picture, a favor which I often request, since my company is usual special and the view is the best in the San Diego area as far as I am concerned. The staff are all friendly and welcoming.
We met friends here who dine at Tom Ham's often; we had never been and based on their past visits were looking forward to it. We go out for dinner a lot and were eager to find another place to add to our favorites. The outside seating and views are great. From there our meal went downhill. We had poor service–which my friends agreed with and said was really unusual. We asked if a bottle of wine was white or rosé; he said white which we wanted but brought it and it was clearly rosé, so he took it back. After pouring the first glass he never came back to pour more. My husband got a really bad oyster in his half dozen; our waiter barely said sorry and that was the end of that. No one offered to do anything to make up for it and the manager on duty never came by. We had to ask for bread. When we left and my friend spoke to the manager about these deficiencies, he acted as if he didn't care–despite the fact that my friend told him she was a frequent customer and had good service in the past, and told him that she had owned a restaurant so knew how our situation should have been handled. We were very disappointed overall. That said, the calamari appetizer was excellent and my scallops were good. My husband thought the bouillabaisse was okay; my friend thought it was good, and her husband's fish was also good. However, the way our problems were dismissed by the waiter and manager made us unwilling to go back. (I should mention that we all had appetizers and ordered two bottles of wine, so it's not like we were being cheapskates!)
I reserved this place to celebrate my 3 year anniversary and it was amazing. It was super romantic and the view where we were seated at was breathtaking, our waiter was amazing as well, great service and celebrated us with an after dessert written on it "Happy Anniversary"
For a seafood restaurant, serving bad oysters is unacceptable. Fully half of mine were bad. The management needs to change its source, or change the way it handles, stores and serves fresh oysters on the half shell, because it is serving items that have gone bad. I would have complained to the server, but no one came to ask how our meal was. Very unfortunate for a restaurant with a long history and great location.
The hostesses were very accommodating, however, the service left a wee bit to be
desired. i think we were seated at an outdoor table for about 15 minutes before
anyone came to offer menus or even acknowledge us.
The waiter did recommend an asparagus and corn salad which was fabulous.
The view on patio is delightful and we were there for the Large Sail Ships.
its very noisy inside.
We celebrated a friends 90th Birthday on this dining experience! We were pleased with everything the restaurant offered, from timely seating, reservation accommodations, our beautiful water-front seating!!, menue choices, the hostess, and our very friendly and attentive waiter! The appetizers were amazing, the beer/cocktail selection was excellent, and our food was very good! I am a very tough critic when it comes to food so if I were to critique anything on the cuisine I would say that the fish (I and my niece had the Market Fish, I believe was a Barramundi) was a bit over done and the falafel on the Vegetarian Dinner was a bit over fried and heavy, but aside from these issues both entrees were delish!
For starters, we had the calamari which was cooked perfectly and accompanied by a Honey Chili Lime Sauce to die for! We also shared the mixed beet and greens also spot on-delish and Spanish Octopus with corn 3 ways, AMAZING! another noteworthy entree at our table was the Bouillabaisse, which I am looking forward to trying on my next visit!
Fabulous meal; great service; our server (Nick) was friendly and extremely helpful; and the outdoor seating was spectacular with the Harbor beneath us and the city skyline view just to the south of us. It was an overall great experience and I would definitely recommend this place.
The first time there recently I had a tuna dish that was outstanding. Last Saturday after arriving back from Dallas my wife and I went for a late lunch. For some dumb reason I chose the BBQ Pork sandwich rather than a seafood dish. Don't get the BBQ Pork sandwich. It was dry and almost tasteless. They would be well served to have it removed from the menu.
Great experience until we received the check. THL added a 3% surcharge with an *, “A 3% surcharge is added to each guest check, due to increase of cost. Thank You!”
If you have to add a surcharge, change your prices on the menu. It is only 3% but the way it was added is not correct in my opinion.
