Tom Hams Lighthouse

Late Valentine’s Day dinner. Didn’t order off the Valentine’s Day menu but it was cool that the kept it up all weekend. Drinks were amazing but pricy, food was okay but reasonably priced.
Best table with a view! Service was impeccable. Food was excellent!
Steak was not done how I asked for it. Med done. It was med rare. Then all they did was put it in a oven so the plate was super hot and burnt my hand.
Everything was good but the lunch menu seems to be a bit limited.
Always enjoy our visit to Tom Hams...love the scallops!!!
Our family loves seafood and no brunch in San Diego has a better selection of fresh seafood than Tom Hams.
The cut your steak before serving so it comes out with the juices spilling all over the plate.
We bring out of town guests and family as the views of the city at sunset are unrivaled anyplace in town.
The market fish Halibut was a bit over cooked so it was dry and had a bit of ocean taste. potatoes were hard. Not a finicky eater but was expecting something better from a restaurant specializing in seafood.
Wonderful! Service and food outstanding!
Ate at Tom Ham’s while on vacation. Recommended by concierge; spot on! Great location, right on the water, tasty seafood, great service.
Great views of downtown San Diego, arrive before sunset if you can.
This was our 4th time to enjoy the Sunday Brunch that is so well prepared and presented. Our server Raymond was very attentive and kept our Champagne glasses refilled without our asking. Our guest, on this occasion, was equally impressed - particularly with the selection of crab, lobster, shrimp, oysters, scallops and ceviche. Most definitely we will be back (again).
Our server Davor as well as the manager & chef went above and beyond for our family. Especially for our picky 4 year old toddler. Exceptional service!
The ambiance and views were fabulous, but the rice in the paella was under cooked and so were the scallops in another dish.
My husband ordered the diver scallops but they had sold out by 6:45. So, he got the bouillabaisse and reported it was inedible, fish overcooked and drowning in sauce. He was disappointed and hungry!
My dish was fine, but for the price, not really worth it. The server was great except he brought the check out forgetting our dessert. He did immediately correct his mistake, but that kind of put a damper on the experience.
We will not return, but doubt it will make a difference, the place was packed.
Absolutely the best “restaurant week” experience ever. Most places are over booked, loud, service is compromised, etc. I usually avoid dining out that week if possible. Our group of 4 loved the food- delicious and very generously proportioned, service was top notch, ambience just beautiful. We’re going back for Sunday brunch in a couple of weeks. Can’t wait!
Was sadly disappointed with this visit. Our reservation time was not honored and we were seated 45 mins late, then our server was rude non engaging and did not seem like he cared. I ordered a medium steak which came out completely rare. They took my appetizer when I wasn’t even done without asking. They just seemed so rushed until he looked at our tip (I am a server I know go important tipping is) and despite the experience I felt bad but overall was EXTREMELY disappointed on my $120 bill.
Noise level was very high making it difficult to hear conversation from the person sitting next to me.
Tasteful setting, great views
We look forward to the next SDRW event to see what Tom Ham lighthouse menu has to offer. The calamari appetizer was so delicious as well as the creme brulee dessert. I couldn't taste the saffron in the paella, but spouse enjoyed it. We were able to have a table window which was a bonus as far as ambiance.
We ordered off the SDRW menu and I was very impressed with all the choices we were given. Our appetizers were ALL very good. However our main course was not so good. The filets (we had two orders at our table) were not that good. They didn't have much flavor and were kind of surprisingly tough. I had the scallops and they too lacked flavor and they were dry.
Our desserts were okay. I ordered the strawberry cheesecake which had a weird taste to it, like it had a refrigerator taste to it with a bad after taste.
The ambiance was amazing. How can you not like a view of downtown San Diego? And we made reservations and were happily seated within 5 minutes of our arrival. Very happy about that.
All in all, I'd give our experience a 3 out of 5 starts. Not sure I'd dine there again. It's definitely a toss up.
We were surprised that we had a window table with a spectacular view!! Even though the restaurant was rather busy we never felt that we weren't getting the attention we needed from the wait staff. It was just a very, fun and tasty trip for us. Thanks for making this possible.
Fantastic restaurant lunch. Perhaps the best Mahi Mahi I have ever eaten. David our waiter was top notch.
Came here with a friend for restaurant week! Overall I loved it and I cant wait to come back! I had the kale salad which included (I believe) Humboldt fog cheese, apples, bacon, and a kind of whole grain mustard dressing. I thought the dressing was a little heavy, so would ask for it on the side next time. But I loved the salad overall! It was a pretty generous amount! Next i had the 12 oz. New York steak! It had a bordelaise spooned over the top which I could have done without. But I truly just prefer the taste of a steak by itself. And I really enjoyed the hash brown cakes and green beans! And lastly the apple crumb cake was incredible! It was warm and served in a little cast iron dish with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. So food was great, taste and presentation wise. The ambiance was great. It wasnt too loud, but they werent overly busy either. Our server was great! She was fun to talk to and attentive but didnt hover. I believe her name is Alicia! I will definitley be back restaurant week or not!
I always Recommend Tom Ham's Lighthouse to friends, mainly because of the ambiance. It's so romantic, and the seating is so comfortable. Tom Ham's has some of the most amazing views of the San Diego Bay, San Diego downtown city skyline and the Coronado Bridge. I recommend it for every occasion. I have been many times, since the early 1990's and I have seen it go through 2 remodels. This remodel is the best. It's so beautiful. But I wish their food was a little bit better. The food is ok, but it use to be incredible in the 90's. It use to be delicious. But now you are paying for the view more than anything. So, get an appetizer and enjoy the view. I think they need to change their menu and add another chef. Maybe a well known chef. What would be ideal in that location is, a Portuguese, Spanish Restaurant, with a bunch of outstanding fish dishes. Also it would be nice to bring back the Steak Diane and Chateaubriand for two and they use to make a delicious Cesar Salad at the table. With all the fish dishes that you get in Spain and Portugal. In Portugal, you can order a bucket of peel em eat em shrimp and sit at a table over looking the ocean. Tom Ham's has that vibe, but I think the food needs to be top notch with that view and what about serving breakfast? By the way, there are rooms downstairs for private parties and weddings and what a great place for a wedding, wedding reception or a memorable celebration. This place is Magical, but again, the food is just ok and needs to be better and that's the report I am getting from everyone I send over, for the Tom Ham's Magical experience.
I love this restaurant however it was very loud this time....
A great place! The service was great from the greeters to the service. Everyone was very accommodating.
Server was "mechanical" / forgetful / poorly trained.
Otherwise an average experience at a "tourist" restaurant.
It had been lots of years since we had been to Tom Hams. Don’t know why it took us so long to go back. The wait staff was very attentive, the Mahi-mahi was wonderful. I had the strawberry cheesecake, and my wife had the apple cinnamon crumb cake. Although the cheesecake was good, I would opt for the crumb cake next time. The view was great. Definitely will recommend.
Phenomenal view and the food was delicious. We had an excellent server and thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
We had fun! We'll go there again sometime.
We took great pics with San Diego background.
Restaurant week has decent prices and we love the view. The ceviche is the best.
The food was good but not great, and the service was just awful. We arrived ~5 min early for our reservation. The hostess said it would take a couple of minutes to get our table ready. But then she totally forgot we were waiting, until finally we realized they had seated several other parties ahead of us and thus went back to the desk to ask what was going on. After we ordered our appetizers came promptly, but then the waitress totally disappeared, and thus one of our party was not able to order the beer he wanted. Our entrees took a VERY long time to arrive, and were not hot when they finally did. Overall rather disappointing.
We arrived early and they sat us right away outside. We placed our order using the restaurant week menu, and then we saw some friends and they joined us so our table of two became a table of 4. Having never been there before I really enjoyed the outside seating. We had to ask for bread for the table, and I'm pretty sure that they charged us for it. Also the menu wasn't complete in the descriptions as the lobster rolls did not detail that they came with anything else and they actually came with fries, had I know now I would not have ordered a fried appetizer. The cioppino that we ordered: the fish was cut up in little tiny cubes resembling potatoes, almost missed the fish. I kind of feel like once we ordered off the restaurant week lunch menu, I kind of felt like the server felt his attentions could be best served elsewhere since we weren't going to be the biggest spenders. Which was his loss because I'm much would have rather ordered a drink, as costly as they were just to try something new, but he wasnt around that much. When it came to the entrees being delivered, our friend who sat down about 5 minutes after us hadn't even had 2 bites of her salad before the entrees came. They advertised New York cheesecake as one of the desserts but when the cheesecake came and had a Graham cracker crust and that is not a New York cheesecake. New York cheese cakes do not have a crust like that. The cheese cake itself and all the finesse they put into decorating it was grand. The fried calamary was good not rubbery cooked perfect. The lobster rolls meat with minced and flaked but it did not have a lot of Mayonnaise so it tasted really good.
Enjoyed the view, the food and the service. Will definitely go back. As new-comers to San Diego, we are just glad to stumble upon Tom Hams.
It is a beautiful location but our server wasn’t great. The service was slow. When someone in the party couldn’t decide it took FOREVER for the waitress to come back. When she took our order she didn’t ask if we wanted fries or salad, someone in the party has diabetes and should have had the salad and was brought fries. The lobster roll was frankly weak. Lobster west puts much larger chunks of lobster for $2 less. The tarragon dressing was terrible it has a licorice taste that is just plain gross. I had the ceviche which had too much lime but was otherwise good and the crab blt. The crab had no flavor and there seemed to be no dressing to it. I had to ask for mayo as it was DRY! overall it’s a beautiful location but the food was just mediocre and it’s fairly expensive.
Tom Hams is always great, especially for SDRW. The food, the view, the service.
From a Crab BLT, Lobster Roll, to Pan-seared Fish.
Service was great, the food was excellent
and one of the best views in the city
need we say more.?
Honestly, it was great! We sat on the patio under the stars. My concern about sitting outside was that it would be cold, but they had heaters, so it felt great! Nothing beats the view you get from downtown, along with the meal. Our meal wasn't too bad, will for sure be coming back again.
