You can tell the staff was over run by the night. We were fine but could tell others around us were frustrated by the amount of time to get their drinks. We saw this upon our arrival and before we ordered. Was too focused on my valentine after that as we even forgot our togo containers.
Total disappointment with a pricey bill for crummy service. Had reservation but those without were seated at better tables before we were.
This restaurant was one of the very few that was open on Christmas Day. I was very pleasantly surprised by our meal. Pleasant surroundings, our food was good and I think it was a good value.
Sadly, this is a restaurant that should be closed. It is an embarrassment to the Sheraton brand. I have eaten here twice recently and both times it was bad service, bad food, and an overall bad environment. They're not very busy and have a lot of Staff but seem to run out of a lot of food items which suggests they can't afford to keep their menu items in stock. The staff is poorly trained and poorly organized. Even though they are trying it's clear there are systemic management problems in this place and Improvement is not likely to occur. My suggestion is that if you are staying in the hotel or visiting the area steer clear of the hotel restaurant and eat at any of the other find Petaluma restaurants.
Had reservations and weren’t seated for a half hour. Another half hour later a server came to the table. They were out of fundamental items on the menu and the whole ordeal lasted almost three hours.
The food for the Thanksgiving menu came out cold, and it was not good.
Long story short. The Service was terrible. I had reservations for two at 3:15 pm. The restaurant was not crowded. They put us at a cocktail table outside the bar across from the cash register where people stood in line to be seated. My friend sat in a long curvy booth; I sat in a stuffed chair that was leaning back (very uncomfortable to sit up straight to eat).
We got seated. There were several empty tables in the dining area. We asked to be seated elsewhere. They said all the empty tables were reserved for others.
It took over ten minutes for someone to give us a menu and ask us if we wanted a beverage. We asked for our beverages - no one came for a long time. Finally, we saw another server walk by and ask him if he would check to see if our beverages were ordered.
The Servers didn't seem to know what they were doing (very unprofessional); they were yelling across the dining room to each other. It seemed that they did not have very much experience to be working on Thanksgiving.
We waited 15 minutes for the bill. No one came to pick-up our money. No one was at the cash register. I handed my bill to a server that was not assigned to us.
The only good thing that happened that night is that they were very accommodating for my friend's food restrictions.
Our food was Wonderful and hot. Too many runners that seem to make service so confusing. Our server was Wonderful. Needed more servers and less runners. Runners should have been picking up empty plates before next course was served
Service was great! Very attentive to our needs and made my companion feels very important. Definitely will return.
We are always glad we ate at Tolay. The quiet is so good for actually being able to have a conversation with one’s dining company. But everything else is so nice too in the friendly service, always consistent and a plus, and, of course, the food is delicious. Did you get the pun?? 😎 Thank you for a wonderful experience each and every time. Shelley and Brede Westby.
Food and service were good, but the view was not what we expected. Could not see the water (river or bay) from the dining area, which was disappointing given we were so close.
Food was quite good considering it was a hotel restaurant. The bartender was very nice.
Really enjoyed the Valentine's day dinner. Received a rose upon entry- nice touch! Overall great experience. Food and service was great. Looking forward to coming back hopefully before next Valentine's day. Dessert was to die for! Highly recommend!
Food was greasy and cold
I made reservations to take my son to dinner for his birthday. We definitely didn’t need reservations as the restaurant wasn’t full at all. Our view was if a gated swimming pool with tons of kids running around - not quite the Marina view I had been expecting. The service was shockingly slow especially due to the fact nobody was there. We ordered calamari just to find out later they were out. Then we ordered fish and chips for dinner and they brought out tater tots instead of fries because they were out. Seriously, out of fries??? The food they did bring out tasted good. Would not go back though.
New Years Eve
Sorry to say but the Sheraton Tolay was a real disappointment! The ambience was nothing more than the feel of a hotel coffee shop charging exorbitant prices ($125) for mediocre food. I ordered the Prime Rib medium well and it was served rare, sitting in a pile of blood on my plate. The waiter returned it to me on the same blood filled plate, but now was adorned with deeply charred grill marks on the outside and still rare on the inside, making the meat taste like charcoal residue. The mashed potatoes were delicious, but the only other thing on my plate was 3 extremely small slices of squash which were brown and mushy. My daughter ordered the prime rib sandwich which was nothing more than sliced meat placed between two slices of toasted bread. I have been wanting to dine at Tolay for some time, but I definitely will never return.
One of the few area restaurants open on Xmas day and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and service. We has the Ahi tuna, Chicken Tangine, and the special, Scallops. All were excellent, decent portions with nice sides. Highly recommend. ENJOY
We were at Tolay for Christmas Day dinner (4 people). Excellent service, well managed. Special dish —- beef shower ribs — was excellent. Prime rib & chicken a little underdone but tasty.
Went on Christmas day and the service was great. Specials were excellent and I love they have 6 or 9oz pours....everyone should have that option
We had the Tolay Thanksgiving dinner. The food was delicious, but the plating of the turkey dinner was disappointing. It looked like we were in line at a food kitchen, where we got a ladle of this and a ladle of that, all in a big heap. One person in our party ordered the salmon, which was amazing -- served with roasted miniature vegetables, on a bed of crab risotto. There was a good variety of desserts, but the slices of pumpkin pie were teeny, tiny...two inches at the widest part. Would I go there again? Yes.
My co-workers and I went there a lot because the Sheraton hotel is next to our office. The food and services have been much improved since the new chef joined the restaurant.
Last evening, the Chef's special is Beef Filet with Mushroom Ravioli. The beef was tender and the ravioli was so delicious. The dish was plated beautifully (see the photo).
The restaurant has a great list of Sonoma County wines. We like Dry Creek Zin. The waiter was nice and attentive. It was a five-star experience.
Delicious appetizers, great wine list.
I was at Sheraton for a business trip and went there for an early dinner. We had four adults and they seated us right away in the restaurant. The servers was super kind and helpful.
Between four of us, we ordered calamari and poke wonton for appetizers, New York steak, seafood linguine, airline chicken, and iceberg salad. The poke wonton were delicious. New your steak had melted cheese on top. It was cooked just right.
They have some special selection of wines from Sonoma County. The server also recommended two signature cocktails, Moscow Mule and Raspberry crush. They were quite refreshing.
The food quality was great and the price is reasonable. I would recommend this place to anyone.
The service was not good at all. We had to wait 15 minutes for our drinks which 1 out of 3 was forgotten. Took them 20 minutes to clear our appetizer dishes. The food was ok overpriced. We had to flag our waiter to pay which took 20 minutes. Horrible
This is the most underrated luncheon spot in Petaluma. It's a great value and good food!! Plus Wendy, the waitress, is very attentive.
The food was good, especially the bread and the Cesar salad. The server was great
This is truly a wonderful restaurant with fresh food and great service. It should be patronized much more than it is. Tolay salad was wonderful. Portions are overly generous. One of our groups loves the smoked salmon. We were also celebrating a birthday and shared a rich chocolate torte.
I had read the other negative reviews, but we were staying in the hotel overnight and I just wanted to have a fun meal with my wife and daughter. I was amazed at how many things went wrong. Amusingly things were just as bad at breakfast the next morning, so this wasn't just a one-off issue. It was like the kitchen forgot, or never knew, how to make food. Combined with the glacial pace of the drink service and the overall shoddy decor, this was a remarkably bad experience.
Average meal. Nothing bad but nothing exciting either
We are 4 ladies who get together to play bridge and eat. It is always pleasant here because of the table layout and waitress who is attentive and helpful. One of our group likes the smoke salmon. Very generous portions and generally very tasty. Kudos to Wendy.
The food was good, but not outstanding, especially for what they charged. Our wait person was pretty distracted, as well.
Good food at reasonable prices for a major hotel (lower than I expected based on Easter Brunch we were there for). We had excellent service and had a lovely anniversary dinner. I had a great steak with excellent veggies and fingerling potatoes. Will go again.
If you have not been here recently, it is worth a re-visit! New menu with some very good "comfort" food selections.
We had a good experience dining at Tolay. The service was good and fast, although it wasn't crowded, so I can't say what it would be like on a busy night. The food was very good. The ambiance was nice; there is a glass staircase that we took a walk on for fun. The bar was a little bit loud. Overall, I'd recommend this restaurant.
Inside the Sheraton Petaluna Hotel. A nice stopping spot before or after the Bay Area with easy off and on access to the 101 Hwy. Light and Airy ambiance with reasonable seating comfort. The selection was limited and well prepared; but reasonable for travelers on their way through town. The wait staff was very good and attentive. Overall a pleasant and not too time consuming stop along the way!
Decided to try Tolay for their Thanksgiving dinner as individuals who were suppose to come to dinner failed to tell me their change of plans. But that was ok as my daughter and I enjoyed a fabulous and filling meal at Tolay. We went with the traditional Thanksgiving meal and neither of us could finish our meal as it was very filing and satisfying! From the soup and salad to the main course down to the dessert. We even enjoyed a fabulous bottle of wine! Everything was perfect except we only saw our waiter 3 times: when he took our order including our wine order, when he brought the wine which was waaaaay after the soup and salad (we couldn't eat the bread, soup and salad any slower then we already were), and when he brought our check. That was it. I have to say bringing the wine after the bread, soup and salad was terrible. There was hardly anyone that was in the restaurant at 4:30pm so why it took him so long is beyond me. And he never came to check on us, see if we needed more wine, anything else, etc. That is why I am only giving the service 4 stars instead of 5. All the other employees made up for his lack of paying attention to his customers. Other than that i would highly recommend Tolay for any meal and especially if you don't want to cook a holiday meal, this is well worth it!
Great place to meet a friend and chat! Good food and wine to enjoy at the same time.
The food was great and the staff was very helpful.
I wouldn't waste time or money eating there. Neither my husband or I had a good meal. My salmon was undercooked, the asparagus was burnt and way too salty. His chicken was tasteless. The wine list was way overpriced. The good thing was the service (the waitress was super friendly and attentive) and the ambiance was good and quiet.
