Todd Jurich's Bistro Ratings and Reviews
My worst and only bad experience with Todd Jurich Bistro. Ordered the chefs recommendation which the entree was a Lamb Osso Buco. The sea bass entree was tried to be delivered twice before our waitress came to ask “you didn’t order the sea bass?” Frustrating and disappointing for a restaurant with such a high reputation (and price) in the area. Service after the appetizer was slow. Between that and a valet service that was disengaged we were rushed to get to a follow on engagement. Will I return? Yes but if things remain the same I won’t after that. They’ve become to complacent with their status.
We decided it would be a #NoCookThxgiving2017 for us. We were very excited to go to Todd Jurich's Bistro in downtown Norfolk for our Thanksgiving family meal. Very convenient location within walking distance from Waterside and Town Point Park. The service was great. They were attentive and polite. The appetizers were good. No problems there. However, our Thanksgiving entrees came out and everything was lukewarm - almost room temperature. I didn't want to ruin our family dinner by complaining to management. But, I expected A LOT more from a $38-$43/per person holiday meal. DISAPPOINTED to say the least. The price included 3 courses per person: appetizer, entree and dessert. We were very full after our entree, so we asked for our dessert to be boxed up so we could take it home. To our surprise, Todd Jurich's charged us $8/per dessert to take home a dessert that was already included in our 3 course meal. It would have been nice if the waitress would have notified us of the additional charges when we asked to have our desserts boxed up to-do. Too many issues for a $200 meal for 3 people. We won't be going back.
We live in Norfolk and had two couples from New York visiting and decided to bring them to Todd Jurich's as we had great experiences entertaining other guests there for dinner. As always, the service was wonderful and the food and drinks and wine excellent. We had raw oysters as a starter which were phenomenal as well. I was glad that everything was as good as it was last time we were there which was two years ago.
The atmosphere was fantastic for my Daughter's 16th Birthday. She loved the pumpkin/crab soup and we ordered the bread basket that comes with three types of bread, one is baked in the kitchen and comes to the table piping hot. My Daughter is a huge Salmon lover so she got the salmon over Brussel Sprouts and she loved it. I ordered the chicken hoping Todd would transform it, but alas it wasn't that wonderful although the breast was juicy and tender. I guess chicken is just chicken and not much can be done to spice it up. Overall it's an excellent restaurant and a great place to eat for a special occasion or spend with a loved one.
This place never disappoints, whether it is a special occasion or not. To continue to be so fresh and delicious, from cocktails to the seasonally changing menu, after 25 years of business is truly remarkable. Service is always exemplary and very knowledgeable and portion size is spot on. Thank you for being so consistently delightful, Todd. Bravo!
This was a 52nd anniversary dinner with our children. Our first time there for dinner after enjoying several lunches there. Our waitress, Kim, was very attentive and informative...and after learning that it was our anniversary she added some star sprinkles to the table setting!
Once again, TJ's was an excellent choice. Saturday night in the summer is less busy, the location is close to everything in downtown (so of course we stopped at The Main first) and the service was superb. The surf and turf special (surprise!) was a paleo dream. Had the zucchini noodles which I am going to try at home! Of course, I never shy away from dessert. Wonderful! Great meal and great atmosphere. Bartender was super, too!
The staff were accommodating and knowledgeable with all the dietary restrictions my wife had. It is hard sometimes to find an establishment that can meet the needs of just about any dietary restriction, but Todd Jurich's Bistro goes above and beyond. Because of this amazing service my wife truly got to enjoy her meal and not worry about any uncomfortable after effects. Overall it was an outstanding experience.
We have dined here before multiple times and had a pleasant experience in the past.
The bartender was very rude when we arrived. When you go to an expensive restaurant you expect the best service. We arrived early and wanted to have a few drinks at the bar. Because of the bartenders attitude we decided to just wait for the table. This set a negative tone for the evening. I will not waste anyones time explaining all the details but I can assure you with all the options in Norfolk we will not be going back. If I am going to spend 400 dollars on dinner I expect to be treated with respect. Food was average. The waiter who waited on us recognized the situation and worked hard to be accommodating. He should not be put in that situation but he did an excellent job recovering.
Service was average. Entrées were very good. Beet and Spinach salad lacked dressing. I usually ask for dressing on the side, but this tasted like it was just plain spinach with NO sort of dressing. Todd's is sometimes excellent and other times average. Overall it was a pretty good meal but I hate to take business colleagues from out of town there because of their lack of consistency...
My husband and I ate here while on vacation 5 years ago and had a wonderful experience. We were looking forward to another great meal this time and we were very disappointed. The truffle ravioli were very salty and not tender. The grouper that was substituted for the flounder on the menu was slightly overlooked and lacked much taste. The mac and cheese that was served with the pork was soupy and rather plain. The fried oysters were good.
The waitress was kind, but she would visit our table maybe every 20 minutes. I ordered a $40 steak that was extremely chewy and not tender in the slightest. I enjoyed my truffle French fries. My friends did not enjoy their meals. For the price, this place was no good. It used to be awesome. I'm not sure what happened.
The food was delicious, except for the Bananas Foster. It was terrible. The rum was not cooked enough, it tasted like bananas in rum, not caramelized at all. The person preparing it didn't seem to know that rushing the preparation was not the way that a fine dining establishment handles preparing food.
Service was not that great, food delivery was very slow, even though the restaurant was not busy at the time. Drink refills were hit or miss. Bread came out after the main dishes were delivered.
We were there for a Mother's Day Jazz brunch that was seating until 3. I'm glad we did not get there for one of the last reservations as the live Jazz ended before 3, an hour or so before the last table finished their meal.
Food was great, but not worth the money. For the cost of this restaurant, the service and experience should have been as good as the food.
I will not return.
It was my birthday dinner and we had a wonderful experience. We live about two hours away so Norfolk is a destination for us only on rare occasions. We hav dined at the Bistro on four other special occasions, we consider ourselves "foodies", have high expectations and we were not disappointed !
Had not been here for a long time, but was able to get in quickly on a Friday night. Fish was fresh with amazing flavor. Jon Dory with truffle was worth the trip alone. Portions were substantial. Wine list was broad. Dessert was not great, but enjoy being able to get a decaf cappuccino. Food came out quickly.
First time and had high expectations. Decor old and shabby and definitely needs to be updated. This would go a long way to help ambiance. Food was good - but not great - especially for the price they were asking. Not nearly as creative as many other options in area.
Delicious food and excellent service! We ate here on a Friday night and, while the bar was busy, there were only a few other people in the restaurant. I was really surprised that a place with food this good wasn't exceptionally busy. In my opinion, this is one of the very best restaurants in Norfolk.
