It’s been a couple of years since I had been here, it had been my favorite place in Norfolk, I was a bit disappointed in my most recent visit. I’d saw my experience was more average instead of exceptional, which I associated with TJ.
Always a great experience
My second time visiting this establishment. I truly believe that this is my new favorite spot.
We had a business dinner for 3 on a Tuesday night. The service was outstanding and the food was perfectly prepared.
Excellent wine list.
We were all very satisfied.
Great amazing food !!!!!!
Wonderful food and staff
Todd’s is a frequent restaurant for us and never disappoints. The staff were outstanding and made our anniversary celebration memorable. Thank you!
Todd Jurich’s, a mainstay in downtown Norfolk. My wife and I decided upon this location for our date night as we’d not been there in quite some time, over two years to be exact.
Our server Gerald, was spot on! Couldn’t ask for better service. The decor is a bit dated and the low lighting almost makes you feel like they’re hiding dirty walls or old chairs. The interior didn’t have the pizzazz we remembered.
The food left something to be desired. We ordered 12 oysters on the half shell, and foi gras as a starter, with my wife supplementing her dinner with a salad as well.
The oysters were excellent! The foi gras comes out under a large wine glass that has smoke pumped into it for flavor. This was pretty nifty display, and again Gerald was exceptional with his explanation of the smoke and the presentation of the dish.
My wife’s salad was extremely over dressed, to the point where the lettuce was almost drippy. Wouldn’t want to get that again, not a good mouthful at all.
I ordered the filet mignon Med rare, and my wife went with the duck entree Med rare.
My filet was cooked appropriately, and the polenta cake on the bottom was decent. The entree lacked something tho. I added salt and pepper, thought about asking for hot sauce, but couldn’t figure out what was missing. It was just....meh. There wasn’t a savory component on my dish. The polenta was, well, polenta and clearly made earlier and molded into that cake. The spinach in between the polenta and filet was nicely wilted but a bit tough and lacked seasoning. I went with the filet as a way to enjoy the night and my bourbon but was left feeling a bit unsatisfied.
My wife’s duck was cooked medium, by the time it came out to the table. None of our dishes, I might add, were very warm, not quite as hot as you would’ve hoped.
Her duck was a bit too crispy on the outside, almost like fried chicken, and this was the root cause for over cooking the interior, we believed.
Dessert was okay - the drinks made the njght
Although we arrived early for our 8:15pm reservation, we were seated immediately. Service staff was excellent and took great pleasure describing specials, answering questions and enhancing the overall dining experience. Appetizers and entrees were delicious, with excellent meal pacing. Each course was delivered in its entirety to all diners so no one was ever “left hanging” as happens frequently in other restaurants when there is a large party. Although we were dining late and pretty much stayed to near closing, we were never made to feel rushed by staff. Todd Jurich’s Bistro has been my “go to” restaurant for business and special event dining when traveling to Norfolk since 2005. This evening’s experience exceeded my expectations and my guests who were first time diners there now have their own “go to” restaurant when they are next in Norfolk on business travel.
The experience was good and the menu was small with unique dishes which was plenty to choose from and the food was good and fresh. The special was Halibut over a saffron risotto. While the risotto was cooked perfectly the Halibut was a bit dry. The lamb and soups were delicious so really I would give this a 4 on the food. The service was a little understaffed but our server was very good and kept the table clean and food separate as ordered. She did a wonderful job.
Service was very slow it took an hour from seating to service of main course Even though no appetizer was ordered. I specified my meat to be prepared pink on the inside and it was served over cooked and gray throughout. When I pointed this out to the server, he agreed and said sorry. No offer to rectify or correct the situation.
Carlos was exceptional with wine service and managing the floor !
I love the roasted beet salad; added chicken breast this time and sometimes add calamari. It's so delicious and healthy. My friend had the grilled cheese special that really was very special. Service is outstanding. I always enjoy Todd Jurich's and recommend.
Overall was very good. Beautiful food. Service a bit dicey. Took forever to get our drinks but they were prepared beautifully. That delay sort of set the tone. Wine bottle delivery was like 15 minutes after mains were served. Having said that the food was delicious.
Wonderful! Every bit of the evening was great.
Nice atmosphere and the food was delicious.
Todd Jurichs food was delicious and the ambiance was nice however the entry to the hosts/hostess service lacked as they were not in the host location. There was a gentlemen in plain clothing who stood near the bar as if he was a customer and we asked did he work there and he said yes. The gentleman had an unfriendly and unwelcoming demeanor to our party when we arrived. When it was time to be seated, he pointed to our seating location versus escorted our party to our seats. But the waitress Kayla was very nice and welcoming and ensured we had what we needed while dining for dinner.
We had a fabulous experience at Bistro. The food was amazing, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere quaint and elegant. Our favorite Norfolk restaurant!
Food was great and so was our waitress. Great atmosphere to conduct business
If you find yourself in downtown Norfolk this place is well worth a try. The food was great, the wine delicious and the service was outstanding.
We have always liked Todd Jurich’s for both lunch and dinner. Food was good overall. My Caesar salad came with a popover that was just a half of a popover and cold. Not worth eating! Also, the waiter was so-so. Had to come back a second time to get our order, forgot my husband’s salad, asked my husband if he wanted a glass for his beer (this is a classy restaurant).
Had to ask twice for more water. So, I haven’t given up on this restaurant- but this lunch experience was sub-par.
A great place to wine and dine. Superb service, nice wine selections, friendly yet reserved atmosphere.
They were out of several basic items that were key ingredients to many menu options. We ordered a bread basket that did not come. We had to remind the waitress when we were finally served our meals. Despite few people in the restaurant, it look almost 30 minutes for our food to be served.
This is quite unusual for the restaurant.
Wonderful evening. We were given a great table and a great waitress (Chantelle). Our experience was outstanding. Glad we decided to dine out last night.
Food, service was great. Wine list had good selections. I don’t get to Norfolk often but will be back to enjoy again.
Been multiple times before and it was wonderful. Probably just a bad night and a distracted server.
It was just ok. I have been going for years and I guess the place has seen its time come and go
Celebrated our 50th anniversary. We were treated like very special guests and it was a real treat!
Excellent food! Great wine selections. Friendly atmosphere but sufficiently upscale. Service is first-rate. Definitely a can't miss place. Worth the drive to Norfolk. Valet Parking or close by city parking.
Beautifully prepared food, great service and bartender.
We enjoyed a wonderful family birthday celebration and would highly recommend this restaurant, Great food service and atmosphere
I proposed to my wife in the restaurant on York Street in '98. We have come to the Bistro once a year on our anniversary for 20 years. We will continue to do so. =-) Thank you for being a part of our lives.
I can only imagine the challenges that a restaurant faces to make it over the long haul. Congratulation to you. I have watched the clientele and the focus change over the years. The experience over time has become less intimate and serviced based - and more industrial. Not just after the move - but within your current location. I do wish that the dining experience were more like it use to be. Care in each and every dish - less banter and people roaming around with booked parties - less industrialized entries. I know this is a balance between quality - consistency - and finances - but I believe the pendulum has swung too far a field from the restaurant you once were. Maybe it is just a reflection of us both getting older.
Interesting menu, excellently prepared and imaginatively plated. Highly recommend.
Our evening here was just ok. The ambiance is more like a cafeteria than fine dining. The bar stocks so-so liquors. The wine list was small but reasonably priced. The food was passable but nothing special. My elderly grandparents would probably like this restaurant because it was quiet, over lit, and the flavors were pretty bland. We won’t be back.
Two of our party got what was billed as filet mignon which turned out to be two small slices of beef on a polenta cake. Totally insufficient for a main course! It should have said polenta as the main course with a side of filet slices ! Been there many times- very disappointing and was celebrating a birthday.
The food was really good. The service was good enough. The environment is nice. We went for restaurant week. I probably would not pay their regular prices for the amount of food we got.
Excellent food and service!
Seemed like they just wanted to get us in and out as fast as possible was definitely not worth the cost
We hadn't been in a while, but enjoyed the experience. The crispy duck was the best duck I've had, and the poke was amazing.
The food was delicious. Even though it was restaurant week, we were permitted to order from the standard menu. We sat at the bar, service was attentive. Restaurant was quiet and attractive.
