Todd continues to a great job under very difficult circumstances. We were delighted to be able to go out to one of our favorite restaurants even under the challenging times. The menu here (and elsewhere) has been constrained, but the overall attitude and ambience remains the same high standard.
Passed by multiple times on Boush, decided to give it a try after we decided we didn’t want to cook dinner. Got a reservation for outdoor seating. I think there might be a miscommunication between this app and restaurants because when I arrived the hostess asked if I wanted a high top or booth which both sounded nice but I said I requested outdoor. To be fair this isn’t the first time I have booked outdoor seating and a miscommunication between the restaurant and this app has happened, one restaurant wasn’t aware open table even offered that option. So I always try to call ahead to make sure but nonetheless we got a nice table on the outdoor patio overlooking the USS Wisconsin ship as the sun went down and the lights aboard the ship gave a pretty view.
Food was excellent, service was excellent. Great specials mixed with a a great regular menu. We both ended up trying the lamb special and I regret nothing by replacing my mashed potatoes with French fries! Spectacular!
The only thing I will say is we were caught off guard by the patio allowing people to smoke. Not a huge deal, just wasn’t expecting it. The wind was active that night so unfortunately smoke was blowing in our direction. Not all the restaurants fault just got unlucky with the wind.
All in all can’t wait to come back, the French onion soup is calling my name since soup season is about to begin!!
The Restaurant is facing the ramification of COVID with only 4 diners and 2 bar patrons all evening. The slowness conveyed a tired environ coupled with a tired menu.
Great bar staff, amazing food. It’s a must if downtown
We were celebrating my 51st birthday.
Recently dined outside at Todd Jurich’s to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We couldn’t have been happier with our experience. The service was excellent. My friend has some specific food allergies, and they were very understanding and accommodating, making sure she got just what she wanted. The food was delicious; I had the duck, she had the tuna, and we shared a beet salad. We ate every last thing on our plates. Too bad we forgot to leave room for dessert. Highly recommended!
Service was great! Nice evening to sit outside. Not many people. Food was excellent and prepared perfectly!
COVID 19 has had an impact. Dinner took 2 hours/15 minutes, and it certainly wasn't crowded; I'd guess that they are short staffed. Food was good, as always, but could have been served warmer, and they were out of several items (we arrived at 6:15PM). Overall, not as impressive as in past visits, but given the current circumstances, understandable.
Very limited menu due to Covid19. They should have updated menu on this website and their own website. She crab soup was pretty good. Calamari portions was really small. Wife ordered Salmon. They gave her a what looked like Trout and try to pass it as salmon. Server wouldn’t even deny the fish was trout. Very disappointing. I understand covid19 is having a big impact on restaurants, but shouldn’t misrepresent what fish you are serving.
Wonderful meal! The service was excellent, server was attentive and knowledgeable. Our meals were delicious, and presentation was very nice.
Great service and fabulous food!
Excellent meal! Spring 2020 menu is great!
One of our go to places and that won’t change. Good food, great service. But the restaurant failed to report our presence to OpenTable and I was dinged. I had to respond to OT to get it cleared.
Excellent food and service. Will return
Went here on a limb during a weekend away with my wife.
Interior belies the quality of the food. But for such high end dining, I would expect more attention be paid to the ambience provided. White drywall, office-surplus-like tables/chairs, un-ironed table clothes, old office carpet, white lighting. Felt more like an outdated office space than a bistro.
Food was good but didn’t, in my opinion, merit the balance of the bill at the end. $210 for two people, only two drinks, including tip.
While I enjoyed the food and the service was outstanding, I would not eat here again. I’ve had much better fine-dining experiences at this price point.
Todd Jurich’s feed like it needs a major reboot. Has definitely fallen off in quality since the last time we were there 5 years ago. Everything felt dated and old as if the energy is just not there with ownership anymore.
Had reservation for the night after Valentine’s Day since this worked out best for us both. Chose TJ’s because of its reputation for upscale service, cuisine and experience.
- Host greeted us warmly and we were seated right away, our table was alright even although in the servers’ pathway (reservation??)
- Waitress was very pleasant
- We each had an Old Fashion cocktail which were superb
- There were many nice selections for the three course price fixed menu
- Appetizers; Coconut Calamari was amazing, cooked perfectly, very light and crispy and very flavorful, a real winner!! Caesar salad was very good as well
- Entrees; I ordered the Chateaubriand (very good although slightly overcooked, more towards medium-well than the medium i ordered) and my girlfriend ordered the salmon, our waitress made it a point to ask what temp she wanted her salmon and she specified medium, said she wanted it to be pink and firm and definitely not raw, surprise, when she cut into her salmon the middle was essentially completely raw even though at first we thought the salmon was overcooked because the exterior looked slightly charred, took a few minutes to get anyone’s attention to correct it, so now my food is cold too :(
- Dessert; special dessert for Valentine’s was exceptional, served to be shared, nice presentation and very tasty; we also ordered a dessert port wine, told her we wanted the red/tawny port and not the white port, surprise, our waitress brought the white port to the table, when we reminded her we had specified the red/tawny port she seemed confused and flustered
- Pleasant staff
- Overall pleasant ambiance
- Nice menu; Coconut Calamari especially and dessert
- Old Fashion cocktails
- Poorly cooked entree (salmon very undercooked, Chateaubriand a little over)
- Incorrect dessert wine served
- For the price of this dinner, would expect food cooked as ordered and better, less confusing service
The food was excellent, would definitely eat here again
Valentine’s Day dinner wirh my husband and it was amazing. My first time going and I was very impressed with everything. Thank you for an amazing experience
Great dinner. Food was terrific and service was outstanding.
The food was absolutely delicious, however this did not overcome how long it took us to receive our meal. We had a 545 reservation and got our food shortly after 7. Our waitress informed us our order was lost because the printer ran out of paper. We the watched all the parties around us who arrived after we did start their meals. We finally got our food but had to scarf it down in order to make an 8 pm show. Such a disappointment.
TJ's Bistro is consistently one of the top restaurants in Norfolk and the entire Hampton Roads area, and this is going on for a long time. Consistency is one of my big criteria - I hate bad surprises. The food is perfectly prepared and plated (from veggies to meat to fish), the service is exceptional, and the ambience is nearly perfect - not too loud but not dead either, people are enjoying themselves, although some tables are better than others (no biggie). It is pricey, except for happy hour, but so worth it.
So wonderful every time! Service great she recommended great drinks and good!
Rob is a great bartender and server! Awesome!!! 😍
The first person we encountered was rude and rushed. Our server was the worst I have ever experienced. He didn’t bother explaining restaurant week. We had to ask twice for our drink orders. They appeared halfway through our “meal”. Our forks were taken away with our salads and not returned. My friends soup spoon had a a very noticeable amount of dried food on it.
The food was mediocre at best.
I will never return to this restaurant and I will advise my friends not to go.
The place was NOT busy. No excuse for bad service.
I wish I had taken a photo of the food.
Birthday. Star confetti sprinkled on the table. Meh
This is the perfect place for lunch. Turns out it was restaurant week which we did not know and so they were very busy. Service was still good as was the food and the value was outstanding. I go here regularly for lunch and always enjoy it. We had the meatloaf this time and it was tasty with mashed potatoes and glaze carrots. The brioche bread pudding is a treat. Highly recommend.
Great lunch at an incredible value - part of Norfolk Restaurant Week. Favorite of ours for many years!
We dined for lunch with restaurant week special the value was good but the food was not as good as expected the soup was mediocre at best..was perfect that day which I love but not this cup. The dumplings were wonderful and so was dessert. The service was not what I was used to at TJ. Had to remind several times for water and refills and for 2nd glass of wine. It was also not busy! Will return cause normally A++
Great experience! Our 3rd visit and always happy when we leave.
Excellent service. We went for lunch during restaurant week and had clam chowder, chicken with dumplings and brioche bread pudding. Food was delicious and the serving size was perfect.
Delicious food, wonderful service from Kayla!
Always excellent! Can’t go wrong
We visited on New Year's Eve. We waited more than an hour for our reserved table. They brought out entrees for two of our part of four before any appetizers. The duck was so salty I couldn't even eat it. They removed the inedible entree from the bill, but that was not enough to salvage the horrible experience.
Enjoyed the evening greatly. The Sea Bass was fantastic as were the cocktails.
This was one of the worst dining experiences ever. The women’s bathroom had a broken, overflowing toilet. The server was inexperienced. We waited 45 minutes past our reservation time. The caviar service was good, the food was okay but overall, I would dine here again or be able to recommend to anyone. We had guests in from out of town and it was embarrassing to say the least.
Unfortunately our waitress ghosted us half wAy through the meal and my entree and bread pudding dessert came out ice cold. Clearly had been sitting a long time. For the prices you are paying the service should be better and more attentive. Even if it was NYE. We had an early reservation when it was almost empty.
We definitely enjoyed our delicious dinner and our waitress was professional, friendly and knowledgeable! Our party of 6 was seated very close to the front door and it was cold. I had to wear my coat during dinner and so did the others. All of us were very pleased with our dinner and service though and the temperature was not really an issue. The only disappointment I had was the ladies room. For a fine dining restaurant to have metal stalls that are scratched and dented with a large toilet paper holder hanging down because the scotch tape wasn't holding it up, seems a little lacking with regard to every detail.
