Todd English at The Plaza Food Hall Ratings and Reviews
This was our second time and this time we had our 2 Grand Daughters, age 5 and 11. They enjoyed the food as much as we did. So glad you had a child's menu, she loved the pizza. The rest of us got something different and shared. One suggestion- ice cream price a little high for 1 scoop and 5 year old really wanted sprinkles, sprinkles always a special treat for a little one.
Highly recommend you make this a stop when visiting New York.
My daughter and I were very excited to try this restaurant, but the meal left us feeling less than satisfied. To begin with, the space was extremely stuffy feeling. It is located in the basement level of the Plaza, beautifully decorated, but the ventilation was lacking so it was overly hot and uncomfortable. The service was friendly, but not very attentive. It took a while for our server to take our order and when my daughter ordered sushi the waiter said the sushi bar was only available to those diners sitting at the sushi bar. Why didn't the waiter inform us of that when we were handed the menu? When I asked for some bread, I was given two small, stale crostini-like pieces, that were not very appetizing. I had the Lobster Cobb Salad, and though it was tasty, the amount of lobster on the plate was severely lacking for a salad priced at almost $30. All in all, the food is over priced and the meal was not one I would recommend nor want to have again. Disappointing.
We ordered the eggplant flatbread and the Greek salad with chicken and were disappointed with both. The eggplant was so thin you couldn't taste it and the chicken for the salad was dry. We have eaten at the food hall for lunch which was a much better experience than this dinner experience. The atmosphere is a bit strange because you're surrounded by cooking stations that are closed. Do lunch not dinner here.
Made through Open Table. They could not find our reservation but I showed them on my phone so they sat us. Food was good. Ordered a cheese board and drinks. When we asked to see the menu to order additional food, the menu never came and waiter disappeared. Finally we saw him and said forget about the menu, just the check. It took 1/2 hour to receive the check and then it was the wrong check. When we told them, (a different waiter b/c our waiter passed us off to another waiter) it took another 15 minutes at least to get the correct check. We told him to wait after we received check so I could give him the credit card right away. So our service was terrible. We saw tables who were sat after us come and go and we were still trying to get our check. We were very disappointed, not to mention the fact that we were hungry by the time we got home. The waiter took time with the bigger table that were seated after us and totally ignored us.
The food is good and a good ambiance, the place was packed but so much so that you could not hear yourself. Our waiter was really nice considering we were taking our sweet time placing our food order. He made some great recommendations that we all liked.
This is my second time here and I will recommend it!
We have gone to Todd English at The Plaza Food Hall every December for about he last 4 years. Have always enjoyed it as there was a nice selection of food and something for everyone, even the pickiest of eaters. The last two outings I must say the service has dropped way off. Very inattentive and always some issue. This time food came for 3 of 4 diners together but the fourth diner received his meal long after the other three were finished. Food dropped at the table and the waiter is gone until its time for the check. The high top seats are not terribly comfortable and there is no place to put anything such as coats or bags so don't bring any. My biggest complaint is that the menu has not changed appreciably in all the years we have gone and has gotten a bit stale for my taste. Also, the menu is significantly overpriced for what is served, even taking into account the high rent district of the Plaza Hotel. The value is no longer there for me.
I still love the space under the Plaza and enjoy walking through all the food stalls. A new development in the Plaza basement is the opening of competing small restaurants (not stalls) outside the Todd English Food Hall which are far more interesting than Todd English's (TE) offerings. I will return to the Plaza basement in the future but will skip TE and instead try some of the smaller more interesting restaurants outside the TE space. I recommend you do the same.
Everyone was extremely friendly and the service was top notch even though it was packed wall to wall. The food was incredible..I had a bloody mary (very good), lobster guacamole, and prime rib sliders. My friend had shrimp cocktail and the lobster sliders and she was practically licking her plate. If you get a chance to go ...take it...but it's wise to make reservations first .
The high tables with the very tall chairs were most uncomfortable. We don't like to eat with our feet elevated and not on the floor. One member of our party has knee issues and this type of seating was painful for her. Some of the ingredients for my spinach salad were missing. The food was tasty and nicely presented. The place was very noisey and the servers were rushing to get the food to serve, etc. The Todd English room ambience was like a fast food place. We do not plan to return.P
My husband got there first and Matre 'D seated him to the certain high table, when I arrived Maitre 'D couldn't find the reservation nor where they seated my husband.
There's no dinner tables, only counters or high table with high chairs. The foods were pretty good but expensive, like a foods court at Harrod's in London.
The food is well prepared, and I always enjoy the variety of items offered. It feels like a food court in Paris or London Department stores. However, I wish the tables/chairs were a bit more comfortable and that the servers were a little more friendly. That said, it is a fun night out for people who know food and don't need suggestions.
The full bar and drink specials are great. They make a perfect Cosmo every time. I love how your party can order off several menus, including oysters, sushi, burgers, pizza, and delicious starters. Its all delicious! Some of my group's favorites are the fig pizza, shrimp tempura roll, risotto gator tots, kale salad, and we all love the drinks. Whether you just stop in for a cocktail or eat dinner, its always perfect. Great servers, also. Oh, and Todd was there too.
The restaurant is a little difficult to find, it is at the end of the Plaza food court. We went for lunch, the food was really good. I had the mixed seafood dish and my sister had crab cakes. Both were delicious. The place is attractive and comfortable and the tables are not crowded together. Service was attentive. I will definitely return.
I had the Atlantic Salmon plus a side order of Risotto Tater Tots, a cocktail and a cappuccino, all of which were quite excellent. The service was adequate, and the only two drawbacks were that I had to remind the waiter to bring my water (which was tepid) after he had asked me what I wanted when I was seated at my table, and for some reason the waiter had held my gift card hostage long after I had paid (maybe because they did not allow paying the tip off the card and he was waiting to make sure I had left something for him?). I sat a at high table on a bar stool, and though fairly comfortable, I wish that there were more low-seating tables there; these are actually, for some reason, in short supply, maybe because they are trying to project a casual atmosphere. The prices are hotel restaurant-high.
Food was amazing. Prices were very reasonable. The waiter was very concerned that we had everything we needed at all times. It was a high energy restaurant which made it an even more fun experience. That is why you come to NY! You can even watch the chefs cook right in the center of the dining room. The icing on the cake is that it is in the Plaza hotel. Can not wait to go back.
Food is not what it used to be. Service started great but had to wait a while for second round of drinks. This used to be my go to restaurant when friends would come in or a Friday evening get together. We would be able to order an array of food and everything would be great and always taste and look the same. Not this time. Dishes not only looked different but tasted worse.
We have been coming here since it opened and are saddened to find that the food is not as good as it used to be. New cooks? Changed recipes? Whatever it is, they need to re-think what they are serving. Sounds good on paper and then comes out with no taste or poor texture. The bronzino remains excellent and the old hanger steak sandwich is missing and should be returned as it was delicious.
I've been a frequent diner at the Todd English Food Hall for about 4 years now. I love this place! Anytime, I have folks visiting from out of town, I bring them here. It's a smart casual restaurant with an easy vibe. Excellent for groups. And the food is ridiculously awesome (do youself a favor and get the fried oysters). They have everything for someone in your group!
We made a reservation and came in on time, was seated immediately in a nice place, and looked over the menus. I think the waiter forgot about us or something (maybe since we sat behind a column so he couldn't see us), because we waited for a waiter for nearly 15 minutes but when he did show up he was very nice and down to earth. All it took was a glance at some staff who walked by and the waiter showed up immediately. We ordered our food and got our drinks in maybe a minute at most.
I ordered a Lobster Mac and Cheese and a friend ordered something else also lobster. His showed up in maybe 7 minutes, mine in roughly 10 minutes, or basically very quickly. Mine tastes flat out amazing and was prepared very well. My friends also seemed to get a very positive reaction.
My one complaint would be that it was a bit too loud. Though, that might have been because there was a crying baby nearby, so I assume everyone spoke a bit louder to compensate. Also, the tables for two were a bit too small I feel. Not small that you worry your food is going to fall off, but they could be a bit bigger.
All in all, utterly fantastic place. I am definitely coming back here again in the future and recommending it to others.
I have been several times in the past and enjoyed the food. It isn't the same at all any more with a different and disorganized menu with no focus. Wine is a scandal at17 dollars for a prosecco! They think it is the Ritz? Uninspired dumplings , sliders and a wrong order given beef instead of lamb to boot. When I realized it the waitress insisted that is what I ordered even though I had never mentioned it and had asked her about the lamb dish which she assured me was quite good. . Plus very uncorfortable seating and mostly empty at 7pm. Avoid this place! listen to the negative reviews written on open table and not your past experiences. I wish I had . There is no evidence of Todd English here anymore.
