Great food and atmosphere. Have been there many times. Just had the lasagna ... best ever.
Pasta dishes were quite good. Calamari appetizer was below average. Charged extra for using a credit card to pay the bill.
Quality is always top notch. Excellent service and quiet. Nice menu.
Kitchen is very good at changing up menu items.
Tocco is a real gem. Owner Bruno is terrific. He is always on hand and ready to recommend the daily specials. In his spare time he teaches culinary classes at County Jail. The food at Tocco is incredibly fresh and authentic. I recommend the Branzino and their homemade pastas. I go there whenever I can. Five Stars!!
I travel to eat. LOVE Italian food. I met a gentleman from Italy and asked which was his favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago and most like home. He said Tocco and that he eats there frequently. For me it really was like being in Naples again.
Excellent evening from food to service! All 6 guests had great food!
Fresh, consistent & delicious, the tradition continues!
Occasion: Mirella Freni’s 83rd Birthday.
The food is still absolutely amazing! Can’t wait to return.
Love this place
Such authentic Italian food, pizzas are truly exceptional.
I dined at Tocco last night and was very impressed with much of their service and the food was not to be underestimated it is amazing with only the finest ingredients imported to the U.S.
However I can say our night was dampened by the hostess whom I believe is one of the owners.
I had put a special request to be seated by a window or a decent view, as it was Valentine's Day and I had just moved to Chicago with my fiancé, we are always looking for quality restaurants. Instead we were seated closest to the kitchen, even though about 75% of the tables were open, and I had requested a better table if possible (was definetly possible). I started to take notice she sat all of the younger couples in this area and the elder near the windows regardless of time of arrival/reservation.
I can say the male owner is everything you want in an Italian restaurant owner. I noticed him doing above and beyond for the customers in his restaurant, he is the show for sure. He even has a Faema E69! (for you esspresso lovers)
As far as the female counter part. I don't know if she had a terrible day or if that's her everyday mood, she was very unpleasant. Smiling, being respectful, and treating your customers like a guest will take you a long way in the food industry. I will not be returning to Tocco for that reason.
Great choice! Tocco is always the perfect place for dinner or special occasion! Real Italian Food in a classy and friendly space.
We have been here several times and it is always great.
Some of the best Italian cooking in Chicago. Everything fresh and carefully prepared.
Terrific. Used for a client meeting of 5
Tasty menu and very authentic Italian. Enjoyed the curry risotto and veal scalloping.
We have dined at Tocco several times over the past few years. The food and service are consistently top-shelf. Fresh ingredients, sophisticated spicing, and a varied menu make Tocco one of our favored destination restaurants. The calcio e pepe is the best I’ve had this side of Rome. Salads and the antipasti (especially the prosciutto San Daniele with aged Parmesan) are delish! You simply cannot go wrong with any pasta dish or the catch of the day. Also, the bartender makes a fine Aperol Spritz. Enjoy!
THE RESTAURANT IS VERY CLOSE TO THE THEATER SO WE DECIDED TO GIVE IT A TRY. THE PASTA IS OUT OF THIS WORLD. ESPECIALLY THE PAPPERDELLI WITH LEMON.
We waited more than an hour to be seated, even though we had made reservations. There was no hostess at the door, we were ignored for the longest time. We sat at the bar waiting for our table, and even ordering drinks seemed challenging.
Fabulous! Food is excellent and service was friendly and attentive.
Food was excellent wine was a little pricey for house Chianti
Delightful. The proprietor, from Ravello on the Amalfi, was warm, welcoming, and keenly aware of what tastes delicious. Fennel salad with almonds and lemon, margherita pizza, parpadelle to die for. Service was exactly what you wanted on this upscale, yet still casual place with a social mission to do the right thing. Highly recommended.
Great real Italian food. Great service as well
This is a neighborhood gem of the highest quality. It is a fun, vibrant, affordable restaurant with great food, wine and service. The owner/chef Bruno Abate is most impressive not only in the restaurant world but in the social welfare and humanitarian realm. The work he is doing in the Cook Countyjail with the young inmates is both inspirational and transformative. Both his work in the jail and his restaurant reflect his humility and generosity. Eating at his restaurant fills your stomach and your soul. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to everyone who likes great food and fun.
This is the second time for my family at this place. The first time, maybe six months ago was excellent, which is why we went back. This time though, the pizza crust was not very crispy. It was instead, rather saggy and soggy. Even the first bite left cheese and toppings sliding off the top. Not at all like the first time, when the pizza was outstanding, thin and crispy and delicious.
It is still delicious. Just not crispy, which is one main reason for wanting thin pizza.
The service was fair. We had to stop our waitress for salt and pepper, ice for the water and red pepper flakes. We stopped her again for another entre and for a desert menu.
They were not that crowded.
Finally, the owner (I guess that was his position) while walking around greeting everyone; was wearing an awfully lot of cologne. It preceded him when he walked by and lingered in the air after he left the area. Not at all what you want to smell with pizza. Garlic cologne would have been better.
All in all, a disappointing dining experience. It’s not inexpensive. We won’t be back, which is too bad as the first time there was so great.
always amazing, authentic THINNNNN pizza and great pasta's. I love the Cacio y Pepe pasta, the Carbonara is super light. The prosciutto is cut to order. It has a more sophisticated atmosphere than an Americanized place.Loads of Italians who eat there.
And frankly, the reclaimed wood and hipster vibe/super casual service in other places is getting a little tiresome( my opinion only)
Bruno , the owner is always on the floor checking quality, etc. and is an organizer for recipe for change, helping cook county prisoners learn life and job skills.
The food was delicious and clean. I ordered the fish and it was great- in other restaurants it's always coated in butter or oil. We sat next to the opened windows and it was perfect. Not noisy, great for having a date or catching up with friends.
The service and food were outstanding. Plenty of choices with great additional specials that made it hard to choose. Everything was great.
Our waitress was wonderful. Joanna was attentive, knowledgeable and personable too. Our food was so delicious! We cannot wait to go again.
We LOVE this place and try to go at every opportunity. My favorite is the thin crispy crust vegetarian pizza, filled with artichoke, mushrooms, olives...but everything is good. Cool, Italian modern design. Go!
Tocco is magnificent! The food is authentic, the service is excellent, the ambiance is charming and conducive to conversation, and the owner - Bruno Abate - is charming and makes a point of talking to the customers.
Third visit. First two were great. The service was very inferior to first two visits. Very SLOW and unresponsive. Food was good but pizza not as good as earlier visit.
Was in the area shopping for jeans for my son and needed a place for dinner and decided on Tocco, mainly due to the OT rating. Overall we were very happy with our experience. The food was very good with the only complaint being the lasagna noodles were overcooked making the whole dish too soft. Service was also very good and will be coming back.
Excellent as always
One of my Chicago favorites. The best ingredients, often from Italy, prepared with care. I'm a repeat eater here.
Bruno Abate never disappoints...my wife and I brought friends from Milan and they loved it. Very authentic cuisine and atmosphere
The staff was super accommodating, my cousin arrive over an hour late and they brought me bread and kept me company. Once we were seated, we were greeted immediately. Never felt rushed, or ignored. The food was absolutely delish!
This is one of our favorite restaurants. Wonderful menu, friendly waitstaff, and extremely quiet . great for meeting friend and having good conversation. Highly recommended!
Tocco was wonderful. The staff was helpful and pleasant. We enjoyed high quality pasta and pizza. We were offered a complementary glass of wine with our meals.
