What Insiders Are Saying
Toca Madera, a healthy Mexican restaurant on a trendy stretch of W 3rd Street, is the place to go if you want a scene but you also want decent food.
This is my go to spot. Everything is on point all the time from the service to the food to the ambience everything is perfect.
It's like a late night club with loud music that has food. Way too loud and clubby. The food and service were great, but won't be going back. Maybe lunch.
Great place to be at. Amazing food and very good ambience.
Solid spot always a great go-yo for any occasion!
Most memorable service ive had in a long time
Very dark.... tables a little close to each other. A bit pricey for the amount of food received but that will increase even more when $15.00becomes the new minimum wage, expect food cost to go up
Drinks were expectacular!..the restaurants layout was comfy and the service was great!...
I found that security was rude we already had reservations and rude almost did not allow is in and even after dinner rushing to get us out very unprofessional as there were still people in bar area that were still there
Always good always fun and always delicious we love this place!
our server was the best part of the experience which is saying something considering the overall experience was fantastic.
Wonderful time! Amazing food! Went while it was still light out. Seated in the back room (with the tree)... was very nice to be seated away from the bar area for dinner.
Stylish and sexy restaurant with good food and creative tasty drinks. The entrees were not big enough to share as advertised. Would have given them 5 stars but the prices are a little inflated. Be prepared to spend some money.
I loved our waitresses Whitney... She made sure I enjoyed my Mother's day.
Server seemed like she didn’t want to be there. Forgot to bring water, rarely visited table.
We had a great experience at Toca Modera. Our food came out almost instantly along with any other things we added. Our waitress was very helpful answering any questions we had. There is music played loudly throughout but it's not bad if you enjoy music lol it's like a lounge/restaurant. There is a dress code that we didn't know about but the manager came quickly and allowed us inside. My husband wore joggers which we were told weren't allowed as well as sandals and a few other things I would call to confirm before arriving. Food is delicious but a little pricey but worth it for a special occasion or if you just got it like that lol. If you are thinking of going you should and won't be disappointed.
The restaurant was absolutely beautiful, the food was fresh and delicious and the service was amazing!!!! I’ll come here again!!
Ceviche fantastic!! Tres Leches French toast to die for!! Jake is the best server ever!!!
I go to Toca all the time, the ambience and vibes are always a win! However, I made a booking over a week in advance for the garden room. It was for my graduation, and they failed to let me know my request couldn’t be accommodated. I insisted on arrival, and they ended up making us wait for 45 mins. This was because they decided to give priority to larger bookings; bookings that could have been seated in the lounge. It was a very self-serving business and pretentious business policy I would say. Table service was fast and sweet in the end, food is just alright as usual.
Recommended by a good friend, turned out to be a pleasant experience. Went on a Friday night (not great for me, because it was like a club atmosphere) Besides the loud music from the live DJ, the service was great and the food was even better! Our server was timely, and professional. We opt for the Street Taco Box, perfect for a late night bite. The food was strikingly fresh! The drinks were superb (slightly overpriced). Besides that, I would go back, but probably during happy hour, and maybe seated in a different area.
This was the first time I had made a reservation and had plans to eat here. The bar and energy have always been really positive so I thought it would be a great spot for drinks and dinner when I had my friends visit. Despite a reservation made a few weeks ago and confirmed, we were seated in the bar area at a table for 4.
The staff is incredibly professional. The food was good we did mostly shareable and it worked out great. Drinks are creative and tasty.
We arrived last night with a reservation to celebrate my daughter’s USC graduation. Two friends were waiting for us at the bar to surprise her and celebrate with us. THEY WOULD NOT SEAT US. Our party of 7 had become 9 and I was told two conflicting things: that they could not accommodate all of us because they were booked up, and that I would have to guarantee $75/pp for a party over 8 people. But THEY WOULD NOT SEAT US and the manager not only wouldn’t help us but refused to talk to my daughter or accommodate us in any way. They put 9 of us out on 3rd street at 7 on a Friday night with no place to eat or drink. Do they understand they are in the hospitality business? This smacks of discrimination!
I go there usually on Tuesdays. I enjoy some of their dishes but the only thing I can complain is their barbecue dish. If you have the bad luck to stay next to some guests who are ordering this food, you’ll end up smelling like onions, grilled meat and more. The smell is too strong for that small and unventilated place. So many times I asked a window to be opened. A menu without that might let us breathe fresh and smell good the whole evening
Horrible. We left. We were told “you have 90 min for your table” then our server didn’t return with our first drink order for 30 min so we left. Very trashy crowd. The manager was very apologetic and nice however.
This was my first experience with Toca Madera—it was for my birthday. They could not accommodate the initial number in my party, even after confirmed. Upon arrival, I was told I had 2hra to eat and then would be asked to leave after that. Poor treatment, mediocre cuisine, and all around poor experience. For a cinco de mayo celebration, the crowd was extremely light. Not sure why I was rushed out. Nonetheless, I will not be returning.
Service was below par. Waitress never asked us for a second round of drinks during the hour and a half that we dined at this restaurant. The waitress seemed like she didnt want to serve our table. Portions were small and overpriced.
Great ambience. A variety of cocktails to choose from. The East Los cocktail was a great drink! The Sea Bass entree was delicious, perfectly cooked. Everyone at the table loved the selection of appetizers. The plantain chips and guacamole were great! I’d definitely like to go back and try more dishes and cocktails. The service was friendly and fast. Great place!
Awesome service, easy to update my reservation, and everyone at the restaurant was top notch from the moment we walked in the door. The service was perfect and attentive and everything we ordered was delicious!
Very nice place, great atmosphere. Me and my friend loved everything, the food is delicious 👌🏽 and the drinks are amazing! I’ll definitely come back sometime in the future. Highly recommended!😁🤩
A nice, slightly contemporary twist on Mexican food without losing authenticity. Service was very good, we received helpful guidance on our choices and the food was great quality. Salsa flight was worth tying although worth knowing that they bring out a standard salsa by default
This place is outstanding!!!!!!
I’m from Chicago and both times I have come to visit LA I just had to come here!!!! The food is on the spicy side
(Which I love) and comes in smaller portions so it’s great for sharing a bunch of items on the menu. Both food and drinks are absolutely delicious!!! We had a spicy cocktail that was just out of this world!! This place gets pretty busy around 730 so I suggest making a reservation- I was there on a Tuesday this last trip. 100% would recommend this place for food, drinks, and atmosphere!
Definitely a great place to have dinner in LA. The food overall was good, but I think they have potential to create even better dishes. That said, the restaurant itself is gorgeous and the crowd is beautiful. The service, especially our waiter Mark, was outstanding. We went on a Sunday for dinner and the crowd/energy was outstanding. I'll be back!
Attentive and friendly service in a beautiful locale. Food very good, but the huevos rancheros could do with simplicity.
Great but the red hair waitress Saturday night upstairs was inattentive, rude, and thought were underage when we were already ID’d at the door.
I would like to request the front room and would really appreciate the couches if possible.
Thank you !
Cool vibe , great food and service
We dined on "Toca Tuesday", with great deals from 5 to 8PM on the menu every Tuesdays. We had the Toca Tuesday menu queso dip, crispy tacos, taquitos, tuna and guacamole. All were tasty, prepared perfectly with good presentation and more than enough food for 2 persons. We also had spicy margaritas with the Jalapeños, which were perfection. The staff here was "on it": from the moment we walked in with the friendly hostesses greeting and throughout the meal, we did not want for anything. The atmosphere was vibrant with a DJ in the bar, so a great place for an energetic catch up.
Love the food, the vibe, and the staff here. Our waitress tonight was beyond awesome, it was a very good “LA meal.”
Awful awful customer service. I come here often and have never been so disappointed.
Depending on what your objective is for the evening, this place will either excite you or totally annoy you. If you like to eat really good food inside a rave-like club setting, then this is the place for you.
If you want to have a quiet dinner and be able to have an extended conversation with someone, good luck matching the volume of the in-house pounding sound system. While the food is very good,
there are some of us who want to quiet down at dinner, and that's just not really possible here.
This place wants to create a "vibrant buzz" and "excitement" and "wow" it's SO LOUD, this is "cool" atmosphere. Not sure how "really loud" equates with "cool" but here it seems to be the case.
Bring ear plugs and hope your guest or friend or date doesn't say anything too important that you actually need to hear and take in.
