To Thai For Ratings and Reviews
Went here with a friend for dinner and had a delicious meal, got Pineapple Fried Rice with the 'American Low' spice level and it was really good. My friend got the Pad Thai with no added spice and loved it. A little pricey but good portion aizes. Will go again for sure!
My second visit to To Thai For, didn't live up to the first. After being seated, we waited for almost 10 minutes for the server to take our drink order and another 15 minutes before we got our drinks. The Summer Rolls were good, but the Pad Thai was some of the worst I have ever had. Spice level wasn't what we ordered on either of our dishes (my wife ordered 2 and it was closer to a 1 or even 0 I ordered a 3 and it was closer to a 5), the shrimp were over cooked and rubbery, and there were almost no vegetables, and no bean sprouts. Ultimately a very disappointing dinner.
I showed up for my reservation and they did not have my name down. I told them I booked it with open table and they told me that if their phone is busy, they sometimes don't get the reservation. It worked out for us only because they had a open table for us. The food was amazing and service was good. I may not have been as happy if we didn't get in right away.
This was my 2nd time at To Thai For and the first for my friends. All of us enjoyed it very much. I would say though, be careful if you're sensitive to spicy food. Have a good talk with the waiter/waitress to determine you best level of satisfaction. For us, medium was too spicy - next time we'll order mild, which is very flavorful with a touch of zing! Would definitely dine here again for either lunch or dinner.
Food was great, prices are reasonable would definitely come again!
Only downfall is they don't recognize opentable reservations, in fact the waiter said to me next time just call the restaurant and I replied if it wasn't for Opentable I would have never found this restaurant!
Clean not crowded, a few things on the menu unique to this restaurant. Service was prompt, solid. Food was absolutely unacceptable . Green curry and Rad Na were super watery, soup like, no texture at all. Both had added sugar that made both dishes much too sweet. I've been to many other Thai restaurants in The US and Thailand. Looking at pictures, I'm thinking regular cook was off as none of the pics looked like the two soup dishes I got( no I didn't order soup). Servers were nice, though if serving that watery mess passing as Thai food, they're as accountable as much as whoever was in the kitchen. Will not return and would not recommend. 4-5 stars? C'mon...
We made a reservation on New Year's Eve. When we arrived our table was ready with menus standing on the table marking it as reserved. We were greeted by friendly staff who helped us choose from several vegan choices. The Summer Rolls were among the best we've had and reminded us of our now closed favorite Vietnamese restaurant in San Francisco. The Thai food was all very tasty, nicely spiced with a heat that intensifies in the mouth even after you've finished. Excellent. No fear of fish sauce, this place truly understands what vegan and vegetarian means. Had we had time we would have come back next day before heading back to SF. We will certainly return on our future visits to Oahu.
Food was good, but services in busy time is not preferable. Also, I was advised not to book a table by Opentable in the future as the restaurant may not realize the reservation, which, I do not understand why they sign up this service. I may visit for lunch if I have a chance to go to Hawaii, but not for a dinner.
Our favorite Thai spot. My favorite dish is the tom yum soup and my wife has tried many menu items and has yet to find one she did not like (her favorites are the summer rolls, masaman curry with fish, and pad keemau). The owner is welcoming and friendly, as are most of the servers (unfortunately not all, hence the 3/5 service rating). Finding parking can be difficult during mealtimes.
We used to eat at Siam Palace on Waialae before they closed due to their building being demolished, so wanted to find another Thai restaurant in Kaimuki. A friend recommended To Thai For. Nice casual place for dinner. Had the massaman and the green curries. Both were outstanding with the sticky rice that we all ordered. I love Thai iced tea and they did a great job with theirs. Had the firecracker shrimp for an appetizer; it was good, but it 's not the type of appetizer I like. My friends loved it though. Also had the Crying Tiger beef salad (Yum Nuah); it was OK, but I've had better. Our server was excellent and did a great job. It was a surprise seeing a haole guy in a Thai restaurant, though, but he fit in well. He warned us that their medium "heat level" was geared to a Thai palate and not American tastes, which was accurate. I like hot food, so that worked for me, although I think it was a bit too hot for the other 3 that I was with.
The crab fried rice is a must. They're plenty of crab and taste just right. The veggie dish was good too. Avoid the overpriced and dry "Burning Ocean" at all cost. Thai ice tea was good, but too sweet. What made me mad was that I was charged $4 for the tea, while it's $3 on the menu. I asked the waiter but the cashier insisted that it's $4. I ended up deducting $1 per cup from the tips I'd like to give them as a punishment for the irresponsibility.
Not a good start when they told me my (Open Table) reservation was for the previous night (it wasn't) and that Open Table was "always messing up" (never had a bad experience yet!!!) but they managed to accommodate us nonetheless, and moved us to a larger table when it became available. The food was excellent - really great flavors . The steamed sea bass was SO ONO! Sadly never saw the wait staff after meals were delivered - would dearly have loved some more water ... Very reasonably priced but really it's the food that will bring us back.
Not the Thai flavor I'm used to. All of the dishes we ordered (e.g. 2 curries, pork chop, satay) were noticeably sweet. Modest portions. When they get busy, service suffers - go early. With 2 nearby Thai restaurants shutting its doors, this is the only remaining Thai food in the neighborhood.
We were a group of seven and the menu variety pleased all of us- and our combined choices were delicious. Restaurant was crowded( good sign) yet we weren't disturbed by noise and didn't feel that we disturbed others. Servicewas attentive and ambiance was great- definitely a neighbourhood gem!
We had not tried this restaurant before but was pleasantly surprised with the excellent Thai food and service. Food came out hot and tasty. Several people came throughout our time there to check on us to assure everything was fine. Lots of parking available. Plan on returning.
