First time and very impressed. Will return and add it to my “go to” places when Company comes.
My family enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was delicious.
Fun local place for drinks and a good meal. Enjoyed happy hour with my girlfriends followed by a nice dinner with my husband.
First visit, but definitely not the last. Food was great and server was fun and friendly. Great experience!
We came in hungry, excited about meeting friends who then called in sick, so we modified reservations as we arrived early. We wanted to like the food and service, but this was our most disappointing dining experience in a long, long time anywhere. First: fireplace is amazing. Second, guy who seated us was really friendly but he seemed to be the manager and didn't come around to check on the not-very-busy tables all night. Third, it was way too dark inside and the lighting needs adjusting. I have never had to use my phone to see a menu except in a lounge late at night. Fourth, noise from Tap Room needs to be tapped down, all puns intended. Cheering for teams is great but to hear the music blaring isn't so great. Overall: Our crabcakes, as we both had them with our meals, were bland and looked like frozen chicken patties thawed out. No flavor at all. Bun for my crabcake sandwich had not been toasted, warmed, buttered or anything at all, which I expect for an expensive style sandwich in a dinner meal setting. Fries were horrible, greasy tiny pieces that were limp, not crunchy and if we had not been so hungry I would have sent the whole plate back. Other member of our party had the surf and turf and the beef was not tasty, rubbery in texture, and the sides were decent. Our best dish were the tots appetizer, which was really good. Worst of all is a restaurant these days which has a policy of having "runners" who don't speak good English bringing food out, randomly, not knowing who ordered what, leaving abruptly, not asking if we need anything like ketchup, pepper, extra napkins, silverware, beers, etc. Please use your servers, and if you want to hire those who are non-native speakers who don't speak decent English, remember it diminishes the dining experience, restaurants! We don't go back, because we want decent service. The one guy who brought food out from the kitchen was wiping his forehead on his shirt as he handed us our food--gross!
My girlfriend and I tried this place on Saturday for the first time. We purposely chose this restaurant because of their participation in the Alexandria Restaurant Week. We both reside in Maryland, so there was quite a bit of distance to get to the restaurant. Unfortunately, we were highly disappointed in the food. The restaurant week menu was very undesirable. I ordered the BBQ platter. It literally looked like it was thrown together. The brussel sprouts looked disgusting. The presentation was awful. The food itself was slightly bland, especially the BBQ sauce. The cauliflower steak, not quite sure where the steak portion came from. Pretty sure it was just grilled. My friend ordered the cod, awful. It was supposed to be friend and wrapped in bacon. Instead it appeared to boiled and wrap in raw bacon. She had to return that dish, I'm not even sure what the accompaniments were. The one good thing was our service, the waiter was extremely nice and polite even after we returned our food. The dessert was good as well, we did the ice cream flight. Very good especially if they were homemade. But as good as it tasted, I doubt it was homemade. Also this is NOT a romantic restaurant or even an adult atmosphere. Very family friendly, children were screaming and crying the entire time. Walking around the tables and being very busy as children usually are. I highly doubt I visit this establishment again. I hope in the future if they participate in restaurant week they at least include the dishes that are normally on the menu. That the beauty of restaurant week in my opinion, being able to experience the restaurant at a discounted rate. Not being served undesirable meals that appear to be thrown together.
Appetizers were extremely delicious. Great beer and wine selection. Cod cooked to perfection!
Issac was terrific and great meal !! Food is always inventive and fresh ingredients !
Cod was obviously frozen and over cooked. It came out dry and stringy. Waitress rang my card up for wrong table and had to do a void and then charge proper amount. This was a restaurant week deal to draw new business and failed miserably. I will not return to dine.
The evening was cold, but TJs had a beautiful fire going and provided seating directly in front. While the bar was packed, the HH libations as it turns out not on HH pricing. The food was delicious, plentiful, and well plated. All in all, wonderful place to reconnect with old friends!
Good brunch. I had two bloody Marys and the crab cake Benedict. Not a lot of hollandaise so probably for the best. Very nice attentive servicer who was good about letting my date and me have a long leisurely time there.
Sat by the fireplace which I always like.
We entered through the bar entrance as they were trying to keep the dining door closed due to weather. The food was good, not very many options but a lot of comfort food good for the colder days. We were seated at a table towards the front, I wasn't able to get a good idea of what the larger room looked like. Our order was delivered almost too fast - wasn't sure if it was because the food was prepared or what. It was a little worrisome but tasted good. Large beer selection but only a couple of options of wine by the glass. They do have an extensive wine by the bottle list.
Sitting next to the Fireplace on a really cold night was lovely! We started with some great beers from the extensive list and ordered the bisque and the chicken tenders. Both came out quick and were very good. Our waiter allowed us to enjoy drinks before ordering our next course as we were not in a hurry. I had the grouper which was good but could have used some type of sauce, jalapeno cream would have been nice. My husband had the steak and scallops. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare as ordered but the scallops were way overdone! They were like rubber which was unfortunate. My son had a very tasty BBQ pork sandwich. We tried one of each of the desserts and enjoyed the strawberry charlotte - I don't believe it was made in house. The trio of ice creams were easy to share but nothing exciting.
Overall, it's a nice neighborhood spot with great beers and service so we will continue coming back.
Thought it was great -good food , great waiter and beautiful fire
Enjoyed a relaxing lunch in front of the fireplace. Thank you for the friendly service, and delicious food.
We had an excellent Thanksgiving dinner. Service was good Nice place close to Alexandria Old Town.
We dined there for Thanksgiving. The service was excellent as well as the traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
We were there for Thanksgiving dinner. The food was good, but could have been served warmer. Our server was excellent and attentive. Overall, a positive experience.
Enoyable comfort food in a cozy, relaxed atmosphere. Service is outstanding!
TJ Stone's was a fantastic surprise as we looked for a close dining experience. Was originally going to try to dine at a chain restaurant, but weather conditions prompted me to look within a block of my hotel. The experience was fantastic from the moment we walked in with inviting customer service. Our waitress that I will affectionately refer to as "Harliquinn", made us feel super special! To top all the great attention, the food was fabulous. All three meals (beef brisket, salmon-corn risotto, and grilled meatloaf) were exceptional and had us talking about them the next day. Definitely will return next time in DC area.
Always good service from Chelsea and very nice gourmet seasonal specials ! Had scallops with a mashed sweet potatoe and red cabbage and a creamy sauce with bacon. Amazing !!
Good menu, good food, good service, good prices. It's off the main King Street drag, which is a good thing. Very popular. Get there early on a Saturday night.
The atmosphere was very nice. My wife and I enjoyed the food with no complaints! The brisket was the best in my opinion. The wait staff was great and our server really helped make my wife’s birthday feel special. We will go back anytime!
The short ribs were outstanding and the cheese grits were cooked and seasoned perfectly.
Food and service was excellent. Had dinner then went back next day for lunch. Would highly recommend.
Definitely on the outskirts of Georgetown, about 5 mins drive from the main shops, bars and restaurants. Great food and service. Typical bar ambiance, with an adjacent dining room if you want to get away from the bar / TVs. Cool space, great place to hang out with a friend or group.
Incredible burger! Goat cheese and bacon. Perfect!
First time here and the food was great. Will def go back to try the bar side sometime.
The atmosphere was a bar, basically. There were a couple of large loud groups. The food was fine, but not delicious.
Great Beer selection and good BBQ! This is the 2nd time we have eaten at TJ Stones & we will definitely be back!!
Service was great! Food was average, good but not memorable.
Attending a play in the area.
Great food and service, easy to reserve a lunch table for six ... overall we had an excellent lunch experience with our colleagues visiting from New York State; they (and we) were very happy
We definitely enjoyed our visit! the service was fast and friendly, great selection of beers and wines, good food, reasonable prices.
I've been to this place a lot, but never for brunch. There was a great food selection and it was easy to snag a table. The service was outstanding, and my friend and I really appreciated not being rushed (as a lot of brunch spots try to get you out the door quickly). I'll definitely go back.
We were there on trivia night, so it was quite lively and loud in the bar area, that spilled into the dining area. The dining area also had poor lighting, and 'old' eyes had a difficult time reading the menu. But the food and service were good, and we had a nice time.
Great food, impeccable service, overall perfect atmosphere for going out.
Came in for a evening dinner date with my wife, and enjoyed a basic repast with our daughter (age 9). Kid friendly dining was available, and we played tic tack toe while waiting for the food to arrive. The Gouda tater tots are pretty good, as is the seafood. My wife's chicken was said to be good as well, and the chicken fingers were good sized on my daughter's plate. Most importantly is the beer and wine selection, which is excellent. While the Boddington's came in a can, the Guinness was draft, and my mixed drink (local blackberry whiskey-mint julip) was pretty good. We never made it to dessert, but I would expect it to be good too. The noise level at the bar can be loud at times, but the restaurant moderated the noise level well, and there was a private dining area for a small group of up to twenty, if needed. For me, this is a safe bet, and one I will return to often - especially for people from out of town who don't want to go to old town or into DC. It can be private, or good for a small dinner group if desired. And the food options are pretty good, and "basic americana" in origin.
We have been here about 8 times and every time we have had a good meal. That is why we keep coming back.
Expensive drinks that were on a specials menu...way overpriced and not upfront about it
