We have been going to TJ Stone for a long time. This was my worst experience ever. They did not have any heat in the dining room however did not mention it at the time of reservation or when we walked in. Fireplace has not been working either. Bar area was better, they should have done something about this on Monday night. Looks like noone is in charge.
We are very sorry for your experience. Our heat has been broken and we have been working very hard on it, but waiting on a part. If it's not working properly, then we cannot have our fireplace lit due to there not being proper ventilation. We appreciate your business and are very sorry again for your experience. If you'd be so kind to email me our website or call, I'd love to make it up to you and send you a gift card to come back, when the heat is fixed. Best regards, Jennifer (GM)
Great food and service! I wish they had lit the fireplace, but that’s a minor gripe. They have Port City Baltic Porter on tap!
Enjoyed their special Valentine’s Day dinner which was a very good value. Wish the entrees had been a bit hotter and the service a bit more attentive. The filet with blue cheese sauce and the duck entree were both tasty - but would’ve been better if they came to the table hot. Seems like the kitchen might have been slightly overwhelmed or perhaps a waiter was missing? Also, seemed odd that the waiter couldn’t recommend either the special duck or swordfish entree because apparently they don’t get to taste items on the special menu. Nonetheless, had a nice evening and will try it again at some point.
The food was very good and the Valentines menu with pairings was very nice. Waitress, though friendly, seemed like she was new. The place itself was freezing (beautiful fireplace with no fire on a cold night?).
Very cold in the dining room. Beautiful fireplace but no fire- on a freezing Valentine’s night.
Swordfish was off.
Valentines dinner two years ago was awesome. Not sure what’s happened...
Great I met my brother’s grown daughter for the first time. I recently saw her at his funeral and we had never connected during his life.
Enjoyable atmosphere and amazing service by Marcus.
The food was very very good. We started with the risotto bites. They were so good and huge. I had the hamburger which was also very good. My husband had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes. He said they were also very good. The noise level was very low so you could have a great conversation without yelling at each other. The staff was also very attentive and courteous.
Our first time there. We went for Alexandria's restaurant week. It was $35 for two people. We had the appetizer, Gould cheese tator tots, delicious! And the accompanying dipping sauce was very tasty. We both had the Chicken Pot Pie. Be careful! It's very hot. I burned my tongue. Wasn't the restaurant's fault. Good size chunks of chicken, vegetables were properly cooked and the dough was tremendous! We will definitely return. If you haven't been, go. We're looking forward to sampling their regular menu. I didn't count but if you wanted to try each beer on the menu, you'd likely need to go 90+ different times.
Was just average. Not good, not bad. Onion soup was salty but meatloaf was ok. Service was just ok.
T.J. Stones is always a good option for BBQ. The staff is friendly and the food is good. I had the brisket which was cooked very well. The bourbon glaze was not the best, but ok. My friend had the meatloaf which looked good and he enjoyed it. The biggest drawback to TJs is the noise from the bar; we were seated towards the far end of the restaurant, so the noise wasn’t too bad.
Disappointed that fire was not set. The server was outstanding. Food and drink was excellent as always.
restaurant was 1/2 empty on a Saturday night. Apps were out fairly quickly. Simple meals took waayyy longer. So long we asked 3 times where our food was, as tables seated after us were already served. Again, restaurant was only half full at 7:30 on a Saturday night. Disappointing
Perfect service, lots of choices o the menu, plenty of space for seating, fireplace roaring, quiet environment, good food at good value, lovely and helpful waitress.
Food was not that good
Decent overall. Service was ok, but waitress did not know the beer menu at all- which is weird for a brew house. Food was OK, nothing special.
Nice big fireplace in diningroom makes this a cozy winter place for dinner!
Food was excellent; portions were humongous, had to take to-go boxes. Service was mostly good; felt like he disappeared a few times; other co-workers helped him out; including a couple managers. Definitely recommend for Thanksgiving dinner if you don't want to cook.
Wonderful cozy place with great food and great service!
Fun, neighborhood place that an Alexandria friend recommended. Really nice vibe and the price is more than reasonable by DC standards. Food was good quality. We went to the bar for about an hour afterwards to watch the World Series game and had a good time. Nice place.
Great buffalo wings. Wasn’t a big fan of the drink special ‘Sunset’ but then had a perfect whiskey and ginger.
Asked waiter about soy content and told about allergy. Ended up getting sick after eating regardless—sneaking suspicion that he never checked.
Just good food and a great waite staff.
Love T.J. Stone’s!
First time visiting T.J. Stone's to celebrate my niece's birthday. This place is a GEM! Food was delicious and the staff went out of their way to accommodate our party!
I’ve been here atleast a dozen times this meal was the worst
My husband and I really enjoyed this place. The service was great, awesome environment and good food, also reasonably priced. We definitely are going to try brunch! Many thanks for a great time.
Occasion: Restaurant Week 2019\Husbands 32nd Birthday Brunch Date
I so enjoyed this place. I brought my husband here for a birthday brunch date and we both ordered from their Sat. Morning Brunch menu. They were transitioning brunch menus so we had 2 brunch menus to choose from (the regular and the new - I love lots of options!). The prices were considerably less on the new menu vs. regular so we couldn’t resist.
My husband got the smoked pit ham with breakfast potatoes and eggs. The menu said 2 eggs, but the portion looked more like 3 or 4! He enjoyed it!
I got the BLT (it has a twist in that it had a fried egg on top). I wish they had asked how I would like it cooked, because I would’ve preferred it fried hard, but it had come poached. I didn’t mind it too much, but for someone else it may have gotten sent back. I still thought it was yummy!
I also ordered a side of avocado toast ($3 extra - can’t beat it! Must’ve been that cheap due to it being he test menu), although I wouldn’t have had I know that my sandwich came with fries (it didn’t say on the menu). Wasn’t bothered by that either, but again, someone may have wanted the toast comped to their check OR sent back.
Taste-wise - everything was wonderful! We enjoyed everything and the service was pleasant, as well!
OH - how can I forget the $10 mimosa flight?!?! It was AMAZING! 4 diff. Types of flavored mimosas and I was in heaven for all of it. It advertised a blood orange mimosa, but they ran out and gave me a grapefruit one, instead, which I didn’t mind (but the couple behind us sent that back and instead got a double portion of mango). I’m sure it will be more expensive once it’s put on the regular menu but I LOVED it and you can’t beat that for $10. Each sampling was almost the same size as a reg. mimosa would have been so it was a wonderful deal.
We will def. be back here when we’re in town next time! :)
The food is delicious and a good value. Definitely going back. Good for families/large groups.
first time visiting and was impressed with service and food options.
Local spot - been here many times - always at best just so/so - had guest in town wanted a Pub atmosphere
made a reservation - they lost it ? -terrible hostess/mgr ! and very young clueless assistant !
most unresponsive server - 15 min to get recognized - another 15 min to get drinks - had to wave hands just to get some attention - D/R was nearly empty and yet no service - what are they doing ?
will never return - many near by much better options ! - went to newly opened Oak down the block for a drink and to recover from this experience - what a warm welcome and friendly group - great !
So many chances to do good and this place just does not rise to the occasion - to bad !!
My girlfriend and I had never been to T.J. Stone's before, and when two family members came to town we thought we'd use the occasion to give it a try. We couldn't have been more pleased. The menu is varied, the service EXCELLENT, and the quality of the food also excellent. We felt the value for the price (moderate) was excellent and definitely plan to return.
Very nice mid-end restaurant with good quality food and excellent service. The waiter was patient and solicitous of my friends without being overbearing.
The food was phenomenal and the service superb! Definitely try the jambalaya penne!
Staff friendly and personable.
I Felt i was at my friend's house!!
TJ Stone's never disappoints us. The food has always been well prepared, and tasty. They have always been amenable to making substitutions for food allergies. There are great daily menu choices, and intersting and delicious cocktails.
I've been to TJ's 5 or 6 times and all the other times received 5 stars but something went wrong this past Sat. night. There were new servers and our server walked past us several times before my husband asked if we could get a drink. Then he brought one of the meals about 10 min. before the others. Also, it was hot out and it was too warm in the restaurant. Something seems to have changed there--hope next time it's back to 5 stars. My salmon was still very good.
Very nice ambiance!
I was there with friends to watch the US Women's World Cup. Lots of TVs, great selection of food BUT, only high-top tables where the televisions are. It would be a great place to catch sports on TV, and I would feel comfortable going there alone -- without lower seating, this will not be possible. I stood through most of the game. The stools are too high and extremely uncomfortable for someone less than 5'2" tall. This is advertised as a sports bar, unfortunately not everyone can enjoy sports there.
Good experience as usual except for the server who was completely inattentive. He spent more time talking to the hostess and other servers hanging around the hostess stand than even checking to see if we needed anything. Nearly 10 minutes to pick up the check when it was ready for pickup seconds after he dropped it off
