We booked this as a last visit since the restaurant was going to close soon. It was convenient for the adjoining theater. The menu was limited but the food we ordered was very good.
Generally top notch, this restaurant had a bad day, or maybe just a bad entree. Side dishes, soup, bread -- all wonderful. Still very sad that it will be closing in a couple of months due to renovation.
Our waitress was phenomenal and made our visit fun and enjoyable. Her food recommendations were very helpful.
Really too dark in the back dining area, it's needs more lighting.
Food was good but service was slow. We were with a large group for a conference and found out after dining at TJ Maloneys that we could have received 20% off. Disappointing!
We had the poutine as an and the loved it. Shepard pie, 3pig grilled cheese, and potatoe soup were delicious.
I live in the Merrillville area, but I had never visited TJ Maloney's. My wife and I will definitely become regulars now. The food was great, the service was amazing and we had lots of fun.
Fast food. Loud music. Had to be in the spirit of the bar scene to enjoy.
Fun place at night. Quite quiet for lunch
We had a reservation (made online) and tried to call to say we would be a few minutes late but no one ever answered the phone. We were seated immediately upon arrival but it was a good 10 minutes before the waitress actually came to the table. The hostess did not offer water or a menu and merely returned to her station less than 20 feet away. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive until we were finished with the meal and had to wait to get our check. This was frustrating since we were trying to make a show at the theatre on site. The menu has changed over the years with very few authentic Irish dishes. We chose this restaurant because it was connected to the theatre and were pressed for time, but we probably should have gone to one of the many other surrounding restaurants that offer a better food selection and better service.
I called T.J. Maloney's in Merrillville Indiana to make a lunch reservation and was informed they were not accepted. I made an online lunch reservation through opentable.com, which was accepted. Upon our arrival for lunch, I was informed the restaurant forgot to close the opentable reservation area but would still honor the reservation. Brian, the Manager of T.J. Maloney's was very accommodating after we informed him of our online reservation. The service he provided to our group was outstanding. Brian took our order and provided top notch service. Thank you Brian for honoring our online reservation and the excellent service!!
This is a very good restaurant and bar for a convention style hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our waitress was very persistent in getting my drink right. The prices are very reasonable and they have entertainment later in the evening.
Was not happy to find you had taken the Rueben Roll ups off the menu. They were the best. I bought the Rueben sandwich, it was good but not as good.
We've eaten here 3-4 times and enjoyed it each time. The beer list is pretty good and often there are usually specials. We like to try the entrees with the British/Irish heritage. They are always ample portions that are tasty and well prepared. The restaurant is well staffed with friendly helpful people. Prices are reasonable. Try T. J. Maloney's and I think you will like it.
Specifically picked this restaurant to celebrate my daughter and her fiance's birthdays. I had forgotten about the time change (eastern to central), so we actually arrived an hour early. It was no problem, staff was gracious enough to get us seated right away! We were seated relatively close to a rather loud group of people, but as that group and ourselves were the only ones in the restaurant portion, it was somewhat tolerable. As more people arrived, group got quieter. The food: Outstanding. My wife's steak was not cooked to her order, our waitress said no problem and took care of it. The waitress, the gentleman who brought our food, and the manager all came over and apologized for the steak. We left very impressed!!
Ashley was our server and was PHENOMENAL... She met all our needs (including the band's: The Difference) and never had to flag her down to ask for anything!!! On top of it the poor kid wasn't feeling well but never let anyone know!!!! Hope to get Ashley again when we come back =)
I thought that the restaurant would be a little upscale since it is a part of the Star Plaza. It felt cheap and cheesy to me. I didn't like the tables and chairs, there were mixed match chairs at my table and my table had scratches. I ordered fish and chips and the cod was rubbery and chewy. I won't go back again.
The bangers were some of the best I've had. The Guinness was on tap
Loud & attractive bar scene. Mac & Cheese with braised tips was very good but service was painfully slow.
the service was horrible, the waiter said he forgot to bring us bread, then he put his hand all over the olive for the martini and sat them in the same plate as the bread. The bartender was snezzing all over the drinks as she made them. The steaks were hard, dry and tufffff. We will never eat at this horrible place again. It was our wedding anniversary and we were in town to see the Mike Epps Show.
Fantastic food & drink. Friendly and a fantastic place for fun.
TJ Maloney's is a large room but it was nearly deserted. We started to walk away when the waitress came from the back room, called and invited us back. They had an excellent selection of beers on tap and a good wine list. The waitress was very personable. The food was not so good. My wife had Shepard's Pie which she said was significantly over salted. I had "Airline Chicken" with potatoes au gratin and green beans. The chicken was good. The menu offered brussel sprouts, but beans were substituted. The beans were crisp as many people like them. I prefer them to be more limp. The potatoes were not good, served as a wedge instead of a casserole, under a heat lamp for so long, the cheese was a rubbery solid sheet. Waitress served free cake.
Last minute reservation worked out fine switch menu's on us didn't have my wife's favorites plate, that was a bummer she did find something else, but wasn't as good for her first choice entertainment was good other than that good time.
The band, "Of Eld", was playing and provided wonderful entertainment. The seating was great! Food fantastic! Our waitress was terrific! Thank you!
Met my wife for dinner after 6pm on a Friday. Seeing very few people inside tipped me off to what was coming.
While the walls and floor show potential for a nice place, the tables and chairs are dated and dinged up. Overall, not impressed with décor.
Server spent more time talking to the staff than focusing on his tables. We had to flag him over to get another round of drinks.
Food was bland and lukewarm.
This was our first and last time dining here.
We enjoyed the Irish Cuisine. The Shephard's Pie and warm bread was delicious. We had theater tickets and decided to celebrate first with a good meal. We made a great choice! We were not rushed, but the waitress was attentive. A great evening!
I would recommend the burger was good they give you enough to eat the atmosphere was good fast service
We specifically went to see The Unstoppables play. The whole evening was great and the band was AWESOME!
My fiance and I decided to stay at the radisson for the weekend for his early birthday celebration and made reservations at TJ Maloneys with his family. To start off the night - they wouldn't let me bring a birthday cake that I paid for. Half the drinks his mom ordered, they didn't have... my fiance ordered a drink and it was made incorrectly, his dad ordered a regular coke and received diet, once the waiter took our order and brought our appetizer (which was really good) we never saw him again until our actual food came out and by then everyone needed refills and my fiance had to get a glass of water from the bar for me because I have a stomach condition and I was in immense pain waiting for our waiter to ask him for water. Wont be back.
Martin -- HATS OFF TO YOUR FABULOUS STAFF AGAIN!!! Thank you for accommodating our party of 10!! Our friends and The Difference had a REMARKABLE time and can't wait to be back there again!!!
Thanks for making our birthday PHENOMENAL!!!
Melissa Perisho & The Difference
Great food, Excellent Service and a rockin' band... It was a wonderful night out thanks to Jordan and Mis Ter Right.
Reserved the table and had flowers sent ,and Wisecrackers lined up on a Friday night. We were seated where requested no waiting and the best of service always.
The grilled chicken sandwich and the burger we had came on very dry crumbly buns... not very good! Also, the chicken breast was tiny!
We waited for another couple to join and our server said he would stop back as soon as he saw them sit down.... he walked by 3 times that I counted without even acknowledging our whole party was there. I understand being busy, but at least say I will be right with you or something..... so we feel less ignored.
We had a large group of 8 and it was a very smooth and enjoyable dining experience! Our food was prompt, hot, and delicious! We were there at lunch time and had a meeting afterwards and had plenty of time to eat and enjoy eachothers company and still make it to the meeting in time. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Our group of 5 enjoyed our time together! The seating was a little uncomfortable because it was cramped quarters. The waiter was fun & took good care of us. The seating and the bread pudding were the only downside all evening. It was pretty great!
Always a great time for a bite to eat and some live music!!! The servers do their best to accommodate the guests and Martin the Manager is always walking around asking guests if they need anything and assisting his staff.
My boyfriend and I chose T.J. Mahloney's so our parents could meet each other. Merrillville was a great halfway point. The restaurant had a reputable website and seemed promising. Both of our nerves were on end, this was a big moment in our lives. I wasn't very pleased when I had reserved a table 5 days ahead and the table wasn't ready. Also, the staff was very unprofessional with their attitudes as well as their attire. Most were wearing yoga pants and the staff had inside jokes that were not appreciated.
Great beer selection to start with and then a very nice meal. We really enjoyed the band, Of Eld. They were a sort of Celtic band with a very interesting song list. We're looking forward to seeing them again and having a great time at T.J. O'Malley's.
The food was good. All in our party were satisfied. The king portion of the fish and chips was only two pieces of fish and about 3 pounds of fries for almost $19!!!
TJ' s is about what you would expect for a pub.
I will say the food was less than average. Apparently salt is used as a main ingredient in the food rather than a spice.
We had the Salmon appetizer and it was doused in salt. The waitress did give us a credit for that item, however even the entrée was heavily salted. Maybe the cook/chef had a bad day who knows.
Also if you go stick to beer or possibly wine. The mixed drinks they serve are extremely, extremely weak.
As far as a recommendation, if your looking for an Irish pub atmosphere and all that entails this place may be for you.
