About Tir Na Nog - Philadelphia

Tír na nÓg Irish Bar & Grill incorporates the warmth of an Irish pub with New American cuisine and all the while maintains a famous charm and hospitality. This extremely popular establishment opened in 2002 in the heart of Center City Philadelphia, after the runaway success of the original in Manhattan.
A design team from Ireland created this small piece of Ireland by salvaging architectural pieces, furniture and bric-a-brac from churches and castles in Ireland and shipping them to the USA. These pieces, combined with rich textiles, Celtic script adorning the walls, and rich, dark wood have shaped an elegant yet inviting atmosphere which caters to the sophisticated and casual diner.
Tír na nÓg was just what Philly needed, a beautiful, yet unpretentious bar and restaurant that has something for everyone.
The combination of an attractive menu and a professional, yet friendly, team of bartenders and servers has made Tír na nÓg a major success with clientele of all ages.

BAR DRINKS WERE EXCELLENT. FOOD TASTED GOODS BUT PORTIONS WERE TOO SMALL FOR THE PRICE. SERVER RECOMMENDED TURKEY POT PIE. IT CAME IN A SHALLOW DISH WITH, MAYBE, THREE PIECES OF TURKEY AND THE REST SAUCE. DISAPPOINTING. SERVER STATED SALAD WAS INCLUDED. ENTRE CAME WITHOUT SALAD. SERVER RECANTED STATING "I GUESS NO SALAD". OUR BILL WAS $125+ AND WE TIPPED OUR SERVER $31...WE ARE GENEROUS PEOPLE. THE FOUR OF US ENJOYED YOUR PLACE BUT WERE NOT HAPPY WITH PORTION TO PRICE RATIO. I EMAILED YOU THAT NIGHT FROM HOME ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE BUT NO REPLY. WE WOULD LIKE TO TRY AGAIN BUT ARE HESITANT.

Decent enough for a drink and a quick bite on a late Friday afternoon. Food was not anything above bar quality. Decor was a terrible mock of Ireland. Tap lines have not been cleaned in ages based on taste of draft beer.

Disappointing. This was my second visit, about one year apart. We ordered one of the specials (not very special) pot roast. Meat was dry, tasteless, and had a lot of fat. The restaurant, normally crowded, was not crowded at all - good for date, so we could talk, but not very lively. Two mistakes from the kitchen on a slow Friday night. Oh well

My friends and I randomly chose this spot because it had an open table for 7 people on short notice. The waitress was friendly and helpful. The food was good and everything we ordered came out in a timely manner.

We went there for lunch after my son's graduation from university. Booking a table on Open Table was very easy but it was also very empty so we had our pick of tables when we got there. The waitress was friendly but a little slow and given the lack of crowd that seemed odd. But when the food came out it was delicious as always and I would always recommend Tir Na Nog to anyone visiting Philadelphia.

I took my work team here for dinner on Tuesday night. We had a 5:15 reservation for 8 people, and we were seated promptly. Our orders were also taken quickly, and the food came in a reasonable amount of time, but once we had our food, our original waitress disappeared, and we didn't see much of the one who replaced her. Most of the team seemed to enjoy their food (fish & chips, shepherd's pie, tacos), and the beer selection was very good. I decided to order the nachos rather than the fish & chips, which was probably a bad call on my part. Given that it's an Irish pub, I should have gone with the fish & chips, but the description of the nachos sounded good. They were too heavy on the refried beans and too light on the salsa. They also used a combination of real cheese (good) and cheese sauce (bad), the guacamole was pretty tasteless, and jalapenos would have been a good addition. The refried beans and cheese sauce quickly made the nachos very soggy. Stick with the more traditional pub foods.

Air na Og is a good standby for meeting friends for lunch - especially if they are coming from the burbs on the train as it is very close to Suburban station. The food is well-prepared and although not haute cuisine, it is very good comfort food and with good ingredients. I love the Shepherds Pie, and others recently had hamburgers, fish and salads that they said were excellent. It's very reliable and consistent in quality of food and service.

I know it's an Irish pub and therefore great wine is not a priority, but man, the two of the four reds I had were both just ugh. Other that that, a charming place in a convenient location that hides the fact that it is a chain very well. They have a remarkably good veggie burger and the service was very good :)

The food was good. But the service was the worst I've ever had (no exaggeration). In all my life, I've never walked out on a bill. But, I did at Tir Na Nog (note: I did leave money to cover the cost of my food.). The waiter simply ignored me the entire evening. He waited on all the tables around me, but consistently ignored me. I was a single diner. Not sure if that had something to do with why he didn't wait on me (but I don't see that as a reason for ignoring me). After my food was delivered (by a food runner), the waiter NEVER came back to check on me. Didn't leave me a bill. Thus, why I left. Too bad.

We returned to this pub because we'd had a good brunch experience and wanted to a place where a family group of 7 could talk and enjoy a meal together. The dinner experience was disappointing. The Irish stew was not authentic and didn't even taste good. Hamburgers and salad were passable, but one would expect more authentic dishes at an Irish pub, especially one named after a mythological land of Irish enchantment. The pub was very crowded so ambient noise unfortunately interfered with conversation.

Had a lovely lunch. Had the fish & chips and my sister-in-law had the fish tacos. We also had wine with lunch and Irish coffee. Everything was delicious and very nicely presented. I felt it was a little pricey. $3 for a cup of tea seems a lot and our wine as about $7 a glass. The entrees were $17 each. But it was a nice day. Would go back again.

While the staff is very friendly and accommodating, the prices here for drinks are simply absurd. $15 for 1.5 ounces of a rye whiskey that I can get for $35 a bottle? Please. They have a great selection but clearly have no understanding of fair pricing for their top shelf stuff. The food is good, not a place to go for the food, per se. Atmosphere is quite beautiful.

TIr Na Nog has a cozy neighborhood bar feel with a young clientele, but the bar did not overwhelm the rest of the restaurant. We were at a pleasant, quiet table towards the back. The food was good, solid casual fare. My husband, friends and I collectively enjoyed the beef stew, fish tacos and corned beef special. We chose it for its convenient walking distance from the Convention Center.

I've been there before so I was mightily disappointed in the service during this weekday lunch. Staff stopped by to see what we needed but ...soup spoons arrived wayyyy after the soup was served, bread arrived wayyyy after the soup, coffee spoon arrived wayyyy after the coffee. We shared a salad and they split it in kitchen in the most bizarre way...we each got half the ingredients on top of a bed of lettuce.

Over many years I've never had less than a 5 star experience here. That includes small luncheons/dinners of 2-4 people up to large groups of 25 "plus". Consistently good food, service and vibe. You should check it out next time you're downtown!

The food was fantastic and large portions for the price. The fish and chips came with a single piece of cod that was the size of a large dinner plate. I love Irish pubs but they always seem dusty because of the intricate wood paneling and knick-knacks on the wall...this place was CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. Great service. Good Guinness pours. Don't miss out on the Dublin Fries!

I took my 10 year old son to experience Irish food for the first time. It was perfect. The food was fantastic, our server was Irish and was able to answer all our questions. She was also kind to charge my iPhone for me as well. In the other side of the restaurant the bar crowd was pouring in for happy hour. They do a nice job of separating the after work crowd from the family diners. As for their drink menu they had all the Irish selection you would expect.

Met an old friend for lunch last Thursday. He had a burger which looked excellent - and he opted for a Caesar Salad over the fries - people next table over had the fires and they looked great too. I had a huge apple walnut salad with cider dressing. It was great - lots of fresh veges and fruits with lots of walnuts, cranberries, - I added grilled chicken. The entrees were < 15.00.
The menu had lots of options. Our server was fast and polite. We were seated at a location that worked well for us for quiet conversations. We were not rushed to leave even after we paid the bill.

There are much better choices than this restaurant. Fish and chips should be a signature dish in an Irish Pub themed restaurant, here they were poorly executed. A cold beer was the only bright spot.

I have been going to Tir Na Nog for many years for both Happy Hours and lunch with friends. This is the first time I was disappointed for 2 reasons. The chicken finger, which are usually delicious, were almost burnt and much smaller than usual. I was very surprised when the waiter put the plate down in front of me but was hungry so didn't complain. Then the check comes and instead of being charged the Happy Hour half price appetizer price, I was charged full price. However, the manager did reimburse me the difference when I returned to the restaurant 3 days later. I will return in the future hoping they just had an off night.
